Kadhafi is truly a moral giant, vilified by the west only because of his anti-west policies! Look he wants to spare his people from western control!

It's been 3 years, and still Germany will not accept offers for a cease-fire in this long war. All the other sovereign nations have ratified the pledge and are supporting each other. When will Germany accept that he cannot break the combined will of Europe? gameID=63769

This Time On Philosophy Weekly--Grouped Stars or Dividing Stripes: Nationalism vs. Global
Now, this one I DEFINITELY want, if possible, folks from other nations outside the US to contribute to, as I'd be keen to hear what someone might have to say who actually IS part of a greater-than-a-nation-union, such as the EU, but it's a pretty simple question:
Politically AND Ideologically, which is preferable--Nationalism or Globalization/Unions, and which do you believe is the "future" politically?

In order to promote good playing behavior, I'd like to introduce the concept of "Death with Honor", which I suggest to be included as a tie-breaker in tournaments just after the number of wins. Definition follows:

Your 2012 Presidential Pick
I know it is a little early, but I am curious. If the American presidential election were tomorrow, who would you vote for and why? You can pick Republicans who have not announced their candidacy yet. You can also pick a Democrat that you would pick over Obama.

You didn't say I could pick Obama.
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jul 11 UTC
Well, the Republican nominee is almost certain to be Romney. He's less of a frontrunner than historic Republican frontrunners, but I can't see a path through the primaries for anyone else.

Bachman could easily win Iowa but certainly not New Hampshire or any other early primary, let alone the general election. Huntsman is secretly running for Secretary of State. Without Iowa Pawlenty's finished. If Perry gets in he'll shake things up, but it's still a hard thing for him to win Iowa or New Hampshire and waiting till South Carolina for your first victory is a risky way to go about getting the nomination.

I really think it'll be Romney and it'll be razor thin in the general election. If only Mitch Daniels had ran...

@ Invictus

With respect, I asked who you would vote for, not who you think will win.

@ TheFlyingBoat

You can pick Obama.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

I'll put it this way:

If the election were today, I'd vote for Obama.

However, the GOP hasn't produced a candidate I like yet, and while I'm not unhappy with Obama, he's no matter a president who's wowed or won me over wholly...

So I suppose if the GOP ran a good, moderate candidate, someone I agreed with, I could conceivably reconsider my position...
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jul 11 UTC
I would vote for Daniels, I think I will be voting for Romney (barring me falling in love with the Libertarian). Thought that was pretty clear in the first post.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

Sorry, Invictus. I'm pretty tired. My reading comprehension has fallen off in the past hour =P

I'd vote for Herman Cain, but Ron Paul is looking more and more attractive every day.
Geofram (130 D(B))

If I vote it will be Obama. Don't even care who the GOP picks.
This will be the last presidential election I'm eligible to vote for so I don't really care.
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jul 11 UTC
How is that the case? You can vote from abroad. Are you giving up your citizenship?
Geofram (130 D(B))
12 Jul 11 UTC
Most likely yes.
I graduate in no more than two years and if I'm ever going to do it, it has to be before I have any money.
Invictus (240 D)

What other country do you have citizenship in? This sounds like a wildly bad idea.

obiwanobiwan (248 D)

Why renounce your citizenship, Geo?

And where will you go?
Geofram (130 D(B))
12 Jul 11 UTC
Canada now, Germany if not US.
The only thing the states have to offer me is higher education. You don't have to be a citizen to take advantage of that and in any case, I'm almost done taking advantage of it anyway.

They paid for my education but they won't benefit from it. Too many good jobs in Germany or Vancouver for what I do.
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jul 11 UTC
Well, you're kind of a douche then.

I still don't see why you feel the need to give up your citizenship.
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jul 11 UTC
Plus if you get German citizenship you need to surrender your Canadian citizenship.
Geofram (130 D(B))

I'm a douche for not wanting to live here?
The USA is a cesspool of corruption, greed, and counter-productivity.
It's a smart business choice and a much desired personal choice.
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jul 11 UTC
I didn't think they did that, but my knowledge of German citizenship comes from a presentation in German class last semester.

But if you are a Canadian/German/Whatever who only came to America to make use of the high quality university level education system and leave then good riddance. If people want to be students at American universities for more than a year they should have to agree to stay.
Invictus (240 D)

You're a douche for having the people of another country pay for your education and then leave.

I'm a US citizen. I'm allowed all the rights and privileges as such.
Geofram (130 D(B))

Before I go to bed and this blows up:
I was just trolling.
I am moving out of the states, but the US citizenship is far too valuable as an employee to give up. I don't hate this country but I don't like it either. It has never felt like home.
I'll probably vote Romney because he's the most likely GOP candidate, but what I'd really love is for Colin Powell or Rudy Gulianni to run. I would vote either of them in office in a heartbeat. Powell isn't interested though, and Gulianni can't get through the primaries.

Also, we all know that the country is a cesspool or corruption and piece of crap, but I'd like to believe that's the case in other countries as well.

Chew, half of my largest-in-the-state university is international. A lot of the one's I've talked to are being propped up by the State/Fed. At worse they're paying out-of-state, but most of the ones studying engineering are having their tuitions subsidized below that.

International students studying here and leaving is one of the biggest problems the US faces. They're not making money on it, in fact they're losing money on it, and it means all those potential jobs from companies being started here and all that high salary tax money is leaving.

But you really can't blame an engineer. There are very few science and engineering disciplines that pay more here than there and several where the pay overseas is better.

International students getting tuition subsidized by whom?

Apart from the pay, they are simply better countries.

I don't know. I didn't really pry into their lives that much.
I do know that many talked about having to support their families back home.
And I don't know many of them that held jobs. Several were on stateside scholarships.

In any case my university and the other three engineering universities I've worked at have an astounding amount of Indian and Asian natives that instantly move back once they've got that piece of paper. In no way is that good for a country.

Why are there so few quality World Dip games here?
I've played hundreds of games, and on this site my win\draw ratio is quite strong, as it generally tends to be. I consider myself to be a strong player, not an expert, but quite skilled.

However, I am noticing that in the World Dip variant, the talent pool seems to be rather shallow...why is this?

PPSC vs. WTA
What are your thoughts? After a couple of couple of games under my belt I'm beginning to grow quite irritated at PPSC. It always seems to dwindle off into one less well doing player helping another better doing player to a solo for a fair share of points. More under the cut.

After the private university furore, Dawkins is in trouble again
Apparently one of our elders and betters has made a somewhat questionable analogy between a man chewing gum and the unwelcomed propositioning of a woman at an atheist conference. I am sure that this was eminantly logical but I am just struggling to see how!
