Do ghost ratings take into account a difference between press and no press?
I am just wondering if ghost ratings take into account different types of games? I have only played gunboat or public press games on here, simply because of time constraints/internet access issues. However, it occurred to me that the gunboat vs. regular are so totally different games that maybe there should be two different ratings systems.

Depending on your beliefs about the Trinity and whether God causes his prophecies to come true, it's quite possible this happened roughly 2000 years ago.
tmg996 (147 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
Yes God did kill himself, he was Jesus Christ but he rose from the dead as a living spirit and the bible says he is immortal
tmg996 (147 D)

And if it was possible why would God kill Himself?
ottovanbis (150 DX)
13 Apr 10 UTC
It can't die because it is not alive in the physical sense, it is a belief/feeling. I don't think God would be much of a nihilist, just doesn't strike me as that kind of fellow...
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Apr 10 UTC
No I mean what if he ALREADY killed himself, and that's why he never shows up anymore?

Would explain a lot, you must admit.

And why couldn't he? Are human beings in that respect bestowed with more power than the omnipotent God? Psh.
Not counting the death and resurrection of Jesus, God would never kill himself because that is a sin, and God is perfect.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Apr 10 UTC
As to why he would do it.... I'll provide you with one possible reason:

Again this is just one possibility, as such I will create a number of assumptions:

We are in God's image, meaning, God thinks somewhat as we do.

Okay. So. God creates world, essentially because he is lonely. Aw.

Then God realizes: I am still alone. These people either a) don't believe I exist or b) are totally not on my level. And even then, asks God, what is the point of my existence?

After all, most people on Earth respond to the question, "what is the reason for my existence" in one of two ways: the atheist says: there is no reason for it. The theist says: it is to glorify God.

So now move up one level. God looks that and says... okay I know THEIR purpose.... but what is mine?

With that, he decides to end himself. Tada.
tmg996 (147 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
Thank you, this is a stupid question no offense. God said he would always help us when we need it. We will always need help thus God wouldn't kill himself
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Apr 10 UTC
And if he lied?
tmg996 (147 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
God doesnt sin so he wouldnt a) lie to us and kill himself leaving us on our own b) suicide is a sin c) God cant die he isnt living he is an IMMORTAL SPIRIT
We are in God's image, meaning, God thinks somewhat as we do.

There's something wrong with this...

That's like saying a robot thinks like a human. Do you think a robot would kill himself? God made man with imperfections, but he himself is perfect. This is why your argument is daft.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Apr 10 UTC
Or maybe he didn't even lie, he just instituted a system that would help us? (Maybe... say... the universe?)

But even that aside, there's no reason to think he can't lie. Okay, so he says "I can't lie."

Big deal lol I can say that too.

I can't lie.

There. Said it.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Apr 10 UTC
Right so where are you getting all that stuff about God again tmg996?

And ZaZa, I can counter you easily.

Okay, suppose God thinks nothing like us. That means we have no idea how he thinks, meaning we can't rule out the fact that he would end himself. Who are we to say we know how he thinks, that he wouldn't do that? =P
tmg996 (147 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
I can tell you arent a believer a) if you were you wouldnt say God is a liar b) you wouldnt say he will sin c) you know your wrong and i know God doesnt lie, he said babalon would fall and even listed the events on the day it fell. there are other accounts of him telling the truth jesus says it alot like "i tell you the truth" God doesnt lie only man does
@tmg

God created everything.
Created everything=All powerful
God=All Powerful
All Powerful=Being able to do anything you want
Being able to do anything you want=being able to sin
being able to sin+being all powerful+created everything=the possibility for a conniving, manipulative God.

Just a thought. God could lie through his teeth to us and get with it without us knowing it. Scary thought, isn't it?
tmg996 (147 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
and its called the BIBLE or aka GODS WORD
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Apr 10 UTC
So now, cornered, you resort to saying "I can tell you aren't a believer"? Hm. Forget me, what about my points?

Also since when did telling the truth a few times mean you never lie? Furthermore, since when did saying "I don't sin" and "I never lie" and "I tell you truth" mean you're telling the truth?

My beliefs, by the way, have nothing to do with this. For the record I don't claim to know anything about God one way or another.

If God were to kill Himself (which he can't, by the way), you would know, or rather, you would not, because you would cease to exist. As being itself (and the one who holds all existence in existence), God can not "die". This is essentially one of those "could God create something more powerful than Himself" or other such questions that is illogical in its asking.

On a side note, you can't kill yourself in the complete sense either. You can end your bodily life, but you can't kill your soul even if you wanted to do so.

Finally, we are created in the image of God in that we have free will and intellect. That means that we are an "image" of God sort of like a shadow. Similar to in some ways, but definitely not the real thing.

@nola:

I will now list the things you stated categorically that you could only know for certain if God had told you, which as I have shown, is in question:

-The abilities (or inabilities) of God, namely, that he cannot kill himself.
-That God's existence is necessary for the universe to continue to exist.
-That God cannot die.
-That souls exist, and that I have one
-That we are created in the image of God in the way that you describe

So..... like I said, what if God lied to you?

tmg966, I can tell that you are a firm believer. You don't appreciate a simple hypothetical question and think you are the only right person. Just answer the question.

@nola, can you prove hat you have a soul?
Patton'sLapDog (0 DX)
13 Apr 10 UTC
Thucydides yours is a flawed arguement. First since God is all powerful and all knowing, he would never "Realize" or Question himself in these ways: "Then God realizes: I am still alone. These people either a) don't believe I exist or b) are totally not on my level. And even then, asks God, what is the point of my existence?". Second you are assuming that he never shows up anymore. "No I mean what if he ALREADY killed himself, and that's why he never shows up anymore?". Do you have any evidence that he does or doesnt. Because to prove the null hypothesis wrong you would need data showing that he never shows up any more. Lets face it you cant get that.

Any way you make this question only to raise a silly debate knowing that no one will change their minds, but you will get to make outragous statements.

tmg996 (147 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
Bright Eyes, i dont like it when people question God, He is your creator why question him? I dont believe im the right person the only right thing is God. And BrightEyes I haven seen you answer the question yet
nola2172 (316 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
Thucydides - If God is not God, then He is not God. If He is, then He is. If you posit that God is, then you admit, by reason of the question itself (or at least as an assumed premise), that God is in fact God.

Second, you are the one that initially stated that we are created in God's image (though I agree that this statement is true) in order to create your earlier argument. In order for us to be created in God's image (since he is spirit rather than matter), we must possess a soul because God (with the exception of the Incarnation, which is a somewhat separate issue) is not material/bodily.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Apr 10 UTC
Okay then Patton:

So maybe God isn't omniscient? Just as I can't prove God no longer appears, can you prove that?

Suppose God still does appear. I will give you that. Let's say he does. How do you know it's actually him, and not something he created before killing himself? Imagine if I set up a hologram of myself before my death. A primitive person, when he saw it, would surmise I am still living.

Also, when you quoted me here:
"Then God realizes: I am still alone. These people either a) don't believe I exist or b) are totally not on my level. And even then, asks God, what is the point of my existence?"

You must remember that was just one POSSIBILITY. When someone posited that that possibility could not happen, I responded by saying that, since we do not know the mind of God, how could we know why he would kill himself? Who are we to presume to know that he wouldn't?
BrightEyes (1030 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
Well tmg, I have no qualm answering this question. What if God killed himself? If you believed, how would you know? Would the "multitude of angels" come down and say God offed himself? Would we even know? I don't think so. Thus answering the question. And if he killed himself and we ceased to exist, then we wouldn't know he killed himself anyways.

Can you guarantee me that this God is my creator?
BrightEyes (1030 D)
13 Apr 10 UTC
nola, this still doesn't prove that we have a soul.

If God didnt create us who/what did?? Oh yea a hole in the space time continuum, can you explain what that means? And how a single cell became the most complex being ever, a human?

Today On The Philosopher's Corner: Kant's Categorical vs. Mill's Action-and-Utility
I LOVE Philosophy. And I LOVE my Philosophy of Ethics class in the college I go to- the class is active and actually inquisitive, great material, and the professor's hilarious, engaging, and sharp, Dr. Zhu. (THICK accent.) In our class, every session there's a showdown: its obiwanobiwan vs. The Cop (both of us share the actual real name.) I champion Mill, and ACT Utilitarianism. The Cop, being used to strictness and cold law, LOVES Kant. Categorical vs. Utility?

Javascript Timeouts when entering orders on World Variant
I am not entirely sure where this goes, so if I am posting in the wrong spot, please redirect me. In a world variant in which I am playing (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=20858), when I (and it appears others) try to either convoy an army or move an army that borders the sea, entering the final combo box of the order takes a very long time and I recently had to click the "No" button to allow Internet Explorer to continue around 16-18 times per order to get them to "stick".
