6 player variant . which map...?
Hi,
just finishing my work on the colonial map. What map should I do next? It needs to be a well tested 6-player-map, as one of my friends might not be able to play in our next game.

Possible New Statistic?
We have many statistics that are interesting, but there is one missing that I would like to see. Much as there are the total points earned from all the games played, I would like to see the total SCs collected from the games as well. I think the average of the total number of SCs against the number of games played might be a better measure of a player's skill than points. It is still a subjective figure, but I do think it would be interesting.

Seven Captains, Tea, Coffee- and a Dispute over Bulgaria
In this latest installment of "what nerdy scenario will obiwanobiwan throw out there as he's not in the mood to type his Philosphy paper" we have the immortal question:

If Captains Kirk (Shatner/Pine), Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Spock, and Riker all sat down for a game of Diplomacy- who'd place where?

Ankaran Crescent
There was some demand for a game of Ankaran Crescent (OK... It was started by me) so I'm going to create one.

Everyone knows that we start in Switzerland, so I guess my first move will be to the Syria. I submit my math below:

integral(x^2*dx) from -3 to 3 equals eighteen. By the powers of 18 rule established by the DipCon convention in 1987, I'll can move 18/2 = 9 provinces, and I'll move Swis > Mun > Boh > Vie > Bud > Rum > Bla > Arm > Syr.

I don't really think we need to show our math... I'll go for Warsaw.
MercuryEnigma (517 D)

I move Switzerland to StP.

integral(x^2*dx) from -3 to 3 equals eighteen. By the powers of 18 rule established by the DipCon convention in 1987, I'll can move 18/2 = 9 provinces, and I'll move Swis > Mun > Sil > Gal > Ukr > Sev > Mos > Liv > StP.
rlumley (0 DX)
07 Oct 09 UTC
It's obvious that you missed the entire thread Mercury. That only applies for the opening move - and you're not opening - I opened. You need to calculate a new move from Warsaw.

And I suppose we don't have to show our work, but I'll be watching you all...
MercuryEnigma (517 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
No, can we show our work for the first bit, until everyone understands this...
denis (864 D)

Is the point to get to a corner of the map from Switzerland is 9 moves
Le_Roi (913 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
I does not have comprehension! :p
Chrispminis (916 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
No, you're trying to get to Ankara Crescent!
redcrane (1045 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
d/dx [c^3-c^2-14] when c is 3: is 7. Therefore, I shall move Swi>Bur>Pic>Bel>Nor>Nor>Nor
Le_Roi (913 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
So you start anywhere, and get to the Ankara Crescent in 9 moves?
DrOct (219 D(B))
07 Oct 09 UTC
Oh I always prefer playing the Kansas City Clam Enahancer version, which means you have to try to do it in exactly 11 moves.

I'll take Silesia -> Boh ->Tyrolia ->Venice ->Tus ->Pie ->Marsielles ->Gulf of Lyon ->Western Med ->North Africa ->Tunis

X^14 = 8 +(Dx-M^2x14) - 3 = 11

Tunis -> St Pete, using the support from Armenia that was allowed after the 1971 rule change.

Folks who haven't played before, please just sit back and watch a few rounds. It'll all make sense once you absorb it. In the meanwhile you're kind of messing with the flow.

Speaking of the flow, last time we played with an earlier rule set didn't we? Which rule set are we playing this time?

Assuming JP's move to St Pete is valid under the 1971 rules, I'll just make a conservative move of St Pete to Moscow. Slow and steady wins the race.

@redcrane

You're doing it wrong.

"You really don't make enough threads, rlumley."

Hehehehehe... Think I should make another one?

I'd prefer the newer 1991 rule change that allows the GoB opening, but I'm with the crowd. Let's just go with 1976 like we did last time - it'll make things easier.

I'll move Mos > Siberia, as allowed in the Switzerland convention of 1987.
rlumley (0 DX)
07 Oct 09 UTC
I only have three active threads at the moment... Others have just as many or more... Like Babak. And mine are a lot better. :-)
Biddis (364 D)

Ok to makeit a bit simpler for the guys who don't know the game i'll just move to North Africa, that ok with everyone?
Maniac (189 D(B))
07 Oct 09 UTC
North Africa from Siberia is muted when any kind of mountainious opening is attempted (particularly as the switz convention is in play), raher han ordering a remove, which is my right, I will play from the position and call Apulia.
rlumley (0 DX)
07 Oct 09 UTC
Oooo... Good move Maniac. Wish I could play off of that...

Are the Broncos better than the Patriots?
Sometimes. A better question, is are the broncos better than the patriots when Tom Brady is the Patriots' QB? Undoubtedly yes. Denver has gone 5-0 and will continue to win. The pats may have had a chance if Brady could complete a pass or two against our D.
