To Kestas or Any of the Mods Who Can Help:
I would like to know if it's possible to remove the annoying underscore from the middle of my name and replacing it with a space. I put it there as a placeholder under the assumption that user names had to be all one word when I created this account. I have since found out that this is not the case. Any chance that one of you gallant folks can help :)?

Hey Kestas! (or other admins)
I posted about this a bit ago, but I'm switching emails, so I'm also closing down this account. I've now finished all my games. So, is there a way to transfer my points to a another account I've set up with the correct email? If so, that's great. If not, no big deal, I just would like to play against more advanced players sooner... Thanks!

Deleting an army/fleet
Is it possible to move your own army into your own territory with a support to destroy a fleet that you don't want?
Say, Fleet A is unwanted, so Army B supports Army C into Fleet A's territory.
Will Fleet A be destroyed or will nothing happen and this a dumb thought?

Dear Kestas: A solipsist's accusation
I suspect that I am the only real player on this site, and that every other user is a fabrication created by you. I suspect that you spend all your time attempting to fool me into believing that I am surrounded by real people all different all over the world. Furthermore, I suspect I know you in person. Respond to these accusations.

According to Rene Descartes, there is the reality and the dream/illusion, and however sure you may be that you are in the reality, you can never be sure that you, in fact, are not having your senses tricked and through that, or through some other means, that your body and everything you see, in fact, in the illusion.

But he ALSO states that because he has a self-awareness/soul/spirit of being, he knows that he DOES, in fact, EXIST- but in what form and where are constantly in doubt.

I am aware I exist, so I do exist, I am a seperate account- but perhaps YOU, thucydides, are an illusion.

(Let's all humour, eh?) :) Still, love Descartes, brilliant philosopher.......

Just a slight addition to what Obiwanobiwan said. The Cogito ("I think therefore I am") works something like -

"I can doubt everything, except that I am doubting. As there is an 'I' that is doubting, 'I' must exist, even if nothing else certainly does. Therefore, there is an 'I' that is a doubting thing. If I try other forms of thought (e.g. thinking, counting etc.) the 'I' begins to become more certainly a thinking thing, not merely a doubting thing and, thus, 'I' think therefore I am."

Any Descartes scholars out there, feel free to correct me.

@obiwanX2: "love Descartes, brilliant philosopher"

god, I hated hearing about descartes as a philosopher - Brillian Mathemetician to be sure, but he had way too much free time resulting in thinking about himself thinking about himself thinking! Blech!!

Analytic Geometry, Cartesean coordinate system, law of reflection and refraction, laying the foundation for calculus, That shit was genius!

"I think, therefore, I am" ... nonsense!

No need to defend him as a philosopher - I won't ever get it anyway. I can't be convinced that philosophy is a worthwile subject / hobby / pasttime / "profession"

I (Kestas) just suffer from rather worse than bipolar disorder. Because of that I can happily play diplomacy with myself, effectively stabbing myself etc. and even plagiarize my own site. Don't bully me because of it.

As for Decartes, brilliant mathematician, brilliant philosopher. Basically he rejected empiricism as unjustified and went for pure logic, and showed that doing so drives you absolutely cuckoo, because you don't get very far.

@obiwan

I think you've misunderstood Descartes a little. His argument is deceptively subtle, but I think that it can be boiled down to this: Our sense perceptions can be deceptive. If we rely only on them we have no way to tell whether or not we are dreaming. However, if we use our faculty of intellect (this is an archaic term, think of it as "reason") we can "prove" that we are not dreaming. His "I think therefor I am argument" is the first step on this chain of reasoning that assures him that we are not dreaming.

@philcore

Although philosophy can often times lose all connection with reality, such abstract thinking is necessary for large scale intellectual advancement. It is not a stretch to say that most intellectual pursuits where at one time philosophy. Once there becomes fairly widespread agreement on the rules of inquiry, topic of inquiry etc. the philosophical sub discipline spins off from philosophy and becomes its own subject matter. So although we can now make a distinction between Descartes' physics/math and his philosophy that is not a distinction he or any of his contemporaries would have or could have made.

@belsherj - It's been a while since my freshman philosophy course where we studied Descartes, but I seem to recall that he attempted to use logic to prove that he wasn't dreaming, and even that there must be a God, but none of his arguments past "I think therefore I am" really actually work logically. It's interesting to think about, but it doesn't get you anywhere. You really can't "prove" that you aren't dreaming, but at the same time, that doesn't really get you anywhere, so while it's interesting to think about everyso often, it's not really worth spending too much time on it. (I think the same way about death and the afterlife, I'll die, though I don't know when, and either there will be an afterlife or not, but there's no real way for me to know, so I just don't really concern myself about it too much.)
