How to stop being garbage?

I've basically noticed that whether or not I get 2v1'd in 1901 or '02 basically comes down to a crapshoot. I find it's very difficult to get conversations and discussion rolling, especially in lower-bet games. Anyone got tips?

Funny business or just my usual paranoia?

I've noticed a trend in gunboat games....when entering orders -- especially during '01 -- a given great power will click SAVE instead of READY. More often than not, an adjacent great power will do the same. Amazingly, these powers don't move on each other. While it may be frowned upon, is this a way of signalling a wish for non-aggression/cooperation? ...and if it's not...why do it?

...and yes the walls talk to me...sometimes in harsh tones.

Hi all,
I wanted to get your feedback on the following things:

1. Adding France vs Austria, Germany vs Italy (two 1v1 maps), and
2. replacing World Dip with another variant (Known World 901)

I think we are long overdue to adding some variants to the site and 1v1 seem to be fairly popular over at Vdip and many members have been asking for them here. I am thinking these two 1v1 variants would be fun. What do you think?
In terms of the second one, World Dip has a number of problems (which we can explain in further details if needed) and not many people play them on a regular basis. So to replace it with a “large” variant, the mod team was thinking Known World 901. What do you think?

This is something we can do in the short term and as we move along and maybe get some more devs to join the team, we can and will do more again.

I like both FvA and GvI. I've never played a World Dip game but I've been told it's pretty poorly balanced so I've stayed away from it. If the mods think that KW901 is a good replacement, I'm all for it.

I personally like the World Map, it's unique because of the 360 aspect, and the known world looks too similar to the American map. But that's my opinion.

I would love if all of those were added. However, why must World Diplomacy be disabled? Does one variant need to die for a new one to rise? Are variants pheonixes?

KW901 is similar in size and number of players to the world map we have now. It has been vigorously tested and is a much higher quality board than the world one we sport now. Obviously, it's a little bit different and takes some getting used to, but statistically, it's more balanced without the bugs and should open the door to some bigger high-quality games.

again, Europe 1939 is too much modern, so it should replace that, not world. I feel like the same thing applies to KW901. It is too much like America.

Did I hear someone touting Europe 1939?

That's a very solid variant. The creator is a very smart bloke, too, and spent a long time making sure it was as balanced as it could be. His intelligence shines through in his work.

@Chaqa isn't this site supposed to be focused on the classic map? I actually support the idea of having limited variants. (though I guess adding one more won't hurt.)

That's just the old rhetoric that the mods and admins have been throwing around for years. There's no downside to adding variants.

We're not talking about removing any variants other than World. Large games already have a very limited market with great trouble actually filling them. Splitting the people who play between two variants is likely to see even more games fail to get off the ground. World itself has many other issues such as bugs and horrific imbalance and it would not pass our selection criteria to be added today. KW901 on the other hand, does.

Yeah KW901 looks like there is a much too large SC density in the East.

World Diplomacy I've played as every country in, and while it's certainly not balanced, there is great potential for every country: even the USA. the 360deg. aspect also is an amazing feature I'd hate too lose

I'd love 1v1's, especially duo which has been mentioned. On the other hand I've found myself kind of liking World Dip and would be somewhat disappointed to see it go.

I like all these ideas. No idea what "Known World 901" is, but i just like the idea of having an occasional large scale game so as long as it's considered good i'm down. No real complaints about the current World Dip but open minded about the whole thing and trust the recommendation for improvements.

Huge fan of 1v1 games so really love this addition.

Or you can really blow my mind and give me a 1v1 world map/axis vs allies variant.

I like it. World Dip was fun, but fairly imbalanced, and I'm fine with leaving the unbalanced stuff over on VDip.

Communication Block and Mute Player Inquiry.

Hey I am wondering if muting a player in a game can carry over into actual private messages and forum post messages? I received a private message for actual in game conversations where I am not even a player in the game.

Can people be muted/have blocked communications out of actual diplomacy games? Does anyone know if this is possible?

ACA Premium Reimbursement

Today I was refunded a decent amount of last year's insurance premium through my company because our insurer didn't spend enough of their income from premiums on claims. What is going on here that some people are seeing their premiums double while some insurers literally don't have enough claims. Is it just happenstance that this provider only has healthy people? A civil, informed discussion would be appreciated, if at all possible.
