Turkish Opening and Mid-Game Tips
This is the kind of thread where, frankly, I am stuck. I need some ideas on how to survive, thrive and keep chugging forward as Turkey from Spring 1902 to the mid-game (whenever that might be). Thanks in advance for replying.

If every single person simply...
Cancelled their health insurance nationwide. All opted out of the deadlines. The IRS would be backlogged with fines and paperwork for 36 years. Thats how you could get rid of Obamacare if everyone really wanted too.

ITT: breaking the broken system.

All federal systems thrive off of ineptitude; this plan would guarantee Obamacare forever. Anything that perpetuates federal jobs is golden to the statists. See the Border Patrol.

Keep saying that after an accident while you are in the emergency room.

I know I've paid more in insurance premiums than I've gotten in discounts and paid medical bills, but my brother got more paid than he paid into the system.

Also hospitals have higher rates for uninsured patients since insurance companies can get a discount on what they will pay. Just getting a simple blood test, the hospital will charge for each component when insurance will only pay the bundled lower cost for this automated procedure.

@psilosha Actually a lot of federal agencies are a lot more efficient that most private companies. Want to real screw things up? Hire a private low bid contractor. Lol.

But sticking on topic, I am quite liberal but I fail to see how 500-600 dollar fines are fair for a guy like me who hasnt had to go to a hospital the entire year of 2015. I dont have high blood pressure or any regular medications I need. I have no health problems, chest pains, ect.

What is those fines going towards if I didnt receive any healthcare at all in 2015? I paid the fine last year in my taxes and I made less than 30,000 a year, and OWED them money because of the fines. that makes zero sense at all.

Someone please explain what the money from the fines goes too...where is this cash cow revenue stream being porked?

The problem with the AHA is it incentivizes unemployment. The ONLY requirement to receive FREE health care is to be a US citizen and not working. I know from experience! I was forced to accept free health care (0 dollar premiums, 0 dollar deductibles, 0-3 dollar copays) last year bc I was unemployed. This year I'm ineligible for free or subsidized healthcare because I make 20k/yr. WTF?!?! Hey Obama, you know who should get free health care? The people who are working! We want to incentivize people to be productive. We want to keep people working, not sitting home on government handouts...

Oh wait. That's exactly what that party wants. Guaranteed votes.

when you view health insurance as a collective enrichment for your present and future self it makes sense. you are healthy now. you won't be one day. your kids might not be. it all evens out.

I dont know if thats necessarily it either. What do you get for your money either way? I'm not planning on going in and claiming im depressed or anxious or hyper, but if its free, whats to stop someone from just using the free healthcare to load up on xanax, and adderol and then sell it to kids for cheap?

I could see the benefit "MAYBE" of if you could get like...free weed out of the deal. then I'd probably sign up ahaha

When I get old and sick, I'm going to try to run/swim all the way to Sweden. I'll either die, or get universal healthcare. Win for all
For some reason I feel filling up the IRS with fines and paperwork for 36 years isn't the smartest thing to do.

By the way a lot of federal agencies are downright unconstitutional. If you want to argue about the efficacy of government in our lives first understand where/why the limitations on government exist.

To what extent do we need to be governed? And if to any extent who is to govern us? Who is to decide what we are incapable of on our own? Government (the misuse of) is the single most profound factor working against the human race.

Best that I not continue, methinks. Later, all.

"Government (the misuse of) is the single most profound factor working against the human race."

Interesting. Would it be possible for you to elaborate, explaining why government is more profound than, say, personal greed?
Psilosha (100 D)
10 Jan 16 UTC
Personal greed, within the confines of the law does not threaten anyone. Personal greed, when above the law (the misuse of government) (chrony capitalism) (corporate wellfare), is dangerous and perhaps the greatest threat to all of humanity. Explore the difference between a coercive monopoly and one attained legitimately. The use of government is ONLY the use of threat of the use of FORCE. Force is one of the only things if not the only thing that can deprive us of life and liberty. Easy one, Steephie. The misuse of government makes unaccountable all major transgressions of this 'personal greed' you seem to fear so much.
Psilosha (100 D)

Self-edit for clarity, sorry: the use of government is ONLY the use of force or the threat of the use of force. NO government action is without force or the threat of the use of force.
Psilosha (100 D)

Greed only becomes a problem for other people when you take from someone with force. Otherwise greed is just a harmless character flaw.

Im not saying the healthcare law is illegal im saying its unfair to people who would rather have a 100% Socialist system instead. I pay massive fines and fees but get no coverage unless I opt in. I should be able to just be fined the 600 and thats my coverage for the year. clean as a whistle.

Id pay 15% of my income out of my paychecks If I knew I got free healthcare, and free tuition.
Psilosha (100 D)

If Norway has no response, Steephie, I'm going to bed.

By the way folks, this isn't economics, this isn't even really politics -- this is ethics we're talking about here. Politics (engagements with other people) is a branch of philosophy that is derived from another branch known as ethics (right and wrong). It does make sense that one cannot have a proper relationship with any other person without at least a rudimentary understanding of what is right and wrong.

I would classify violence (also known as force) as what is the single greatest factor working against humankind. I classify government as just a form of violence (or force). Government is the thug you call on to rough someone up when they break a contract or otherwise injure you.

Brainbomb I am terribly disappointed. ;)

Brainbomb, you are entitled to your life, to liberty and to the pursuit of happiness. Any other entitlements you think you 'deserve' just by being alive, take that up with your mother. Nobody else is responsible for you.

This doesn't mean that I, myself, would be uncharitable. There are plenty of individuals who would give with an open heart but do not tax to achieve charity.

Security Software
The free period of Norton Security that came with my laptop will end in seven days. My question: what's the best thing to do next? I could stick with Norton for €10 for the first year or I could pick something different.
I'm willing to pay €10, but I don't have a clue what's good and what's bad so if there's something better or equally good for free or the same price, I'd love to hear. I want to know the best option, basically.

Do pseudonyms harm the hobby? An interesting letter in Diplomacy World.
I was reading through the most recent edition of Diplomacy World when I came across the following letter (see the post below). Having only just started to play in proper FTF games, it's not something that had really occurred to me before.

Does using a pseudonym take an important element out of the game? I'd be most interested to hear the opinions of those who are/were involved in FTF scenes, although anyone is welcome to comment.
