Being a stand up ally!!!
I know diplomacy was originally designed as a game to win, but this site and the points and GR seemed to have changed the way you can look at the game.
How do people feel about being a good ally? For example, 5 player left in a game m and 3 are on one side while two are on the other. It's pretty much a stalemate unless one of the sides is willing to stab the other. Should one always stab, or is there something to be said about being a good ally to the end?

Howdy folks,

I've noticed that all the Fall of the American Empire IV games are either extremely fast (5 minute rounds) or extremely slow (3 day rounds). Could anyone explain the apparent disinterest in 1-day-round games for this variant?

@semck, the day I stop being sarcastic and making witty posts is the day you need to worry. They are my way of keeping modding and the site enjoyable. Just like +1 whoring is for abge and 2nd, or arguing for the sake of arguing is for you. You can be assured that I am completely professional in any communication through the mod email, which is really the only way I communicate as a moderator.

I'd also defend my comment as accurate too, if making 2 accounts in the last week, making claims that his site is being attacked by the Israeli government to try to convince us to let him access to our site data to help him, and making multiple fake replies to our survey isn't the definition of "sad little moron" I don't know what is. Though to be honest my reply was only directed at his above comment which was trivializing the death of a journalist, which I feel on it's own justified ridicule. I personally am a bit concerned that you find my ridicule of someone who is dismissing the life of a human as unimportant. I certainly hope that you don't find his comment morally acceptable. To each his own I suppose though.

I do, as always though, appreciate your bitterness over any comment that does not completely match your standards.

JMO,

That comment was "witty"? Really?

In any event, I didn't take SYnapse (as you say he is) to be trivializing anybody's death. I took him to be complaining that a thread was created about this particular person's death, and not for each of the other people killed by the same groups.

I think there are things to be said for and against his point, but it certainly doesn't strike me as moronic.
semck83 (229 D(B))

Yeah, I think 2wl and zultar are the +1 whores on the mod team, not abge.

FWIW, I never argue for the sake of it, either; I only argue if I consider something somebody said wrong in an intrinsically important or interesting way. Your idea of importance and interest may, of course, differ from mine.

As always, your selective reading is hilarious.

Note that I said that when I stop making sarcastic and witty posts, not that this post was necessarily either. Though it could fit into sarcastic depending on your definition.

"Oh no, a rich white guy died! " is clearly demeaning. And you seemingly missed the other reasons I gave. Additionally, the fact that you give any meaning besides intent to troll the forum to an account called "Multipleuser" shows some pretty poor judgement and reasoning on your part.

@JMO,

"Note that I said that when I stop making sarcastic and witty posts, not that this post was necessarily either."

The mod team apparently has real problems with contextual reading -- which may explain a lot, actually. When, in this context, you say, "the day I stop being sarcastic and making witty posts is the day you need to worry," you are, in fact, implying that you were engaged in at least one of those activities in the post in question. (Otherwise, once again, your post would be completely nonresponsive). As for sarcasm, I would say that your post falls more into the category of direct abuse than anything as clever as sarcasm, but as you say, that's a matter of definition.

Once again, I disagree that "Oh no, a rich white guy died!" is clearly demeaning (of the decedent, anyway). Calling somebody a rich white guy is not an insult, at least so far as I'm aware. I think it's fairly clear that the sarcasm in SYnapse's post was directed at the choice of which death to decry, and was not meant to be directed at the person killed in this case.

His point was very similar to the one made in this comic:

http://thehumancondition.wikispaces.com/file/view/examinercartoon.jpg/148030647/examinercartoon.jpg

I'm sorry if you can't distinguish that from not caring about the person's death.

Finally, I didn't "miss" the other reasons you gave. I responded to the one that you singled out as the one that actually motivated the remark.

@trip,

Yes, I think mods should treat people respectfully generically. They have made an *immense* hullaballoo about how they have to step up moderation on the forum to create an atmosphere of greater respect and calm. Whether they know it or not, the mods calling people "sad little moron[s]" sets a terrible tone and example. Somebody signing on to the site for the first time and seeing a mod call anybody that would be completely justified in assuming that such a level of dialog was not only tolerated, but encouraged.

@ Smeck, way to completely make this post about a "sad little moron" who was trolling and not about what is was made for, which you ultimately did by starting a righteous quest for morality. Back to the topic.. I think its ridiculous how many people say the USA should stay out of other's business, then criticize us for only caring when American blood is spilled.

"Mods & admins take a relaxed approach to rule enforcement based on mutual respect for other players."

I will not give a banned player any respect, as they have not given the site any. It's just that simple semck. In some cases, like Sandgoose, a banned individual will show respect for the site and it's rules and we'll reconsider. Making new accounts is not the way to demonstrate respect for this site though. And I think you're ignoring the most important of my points:

"the fact that you give any meaning besides intent to troll the forum to an account called "Multipleuser" shows some pretty poor judgement and reasoning on your part."

final note, I am not a forum moderator. I deal exclusively with game side moderation except in rare instances where I sign my posts as "WebDip Admin".

@PiC, That's an interesting point. People seem willing to condemn those who try to help in a situation until they are the ones that need help.

I'd just like to point out that the account "multipleuser" clearly indicates it was one account with many users, not many accounts with one user. As far as I know, this isn't against the rules, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you for your resignation.

Whom are you quoting, jmo? Certainly not me.

"final note, I am not a forum moderator. I deal exclusively with game side moderation except in rare instances where I sign my posts as "WebDip Admin"."

Really? So you don't lock threads, silence people, and ban them for things they post on the forum?

A guide to not being gullible

Convoying a Retreating unit
Suppose an English army unit is at Holland and is attacked by German unit from Kiel with support from Ruhr and Belgium. In normal case it is forced to disband because it doesn't have anywhere to retreat to.
But what if we allow the English fleet at north sea to convoy the retreating army unit to some place; say Edinburgh?
Is this feasible? If yes, then how will it affect the game overall?
