Just read over the Gaza ceasefire thread. I'm sending both of you an official warning as the abusive back and forth between you and Putin crossed the line.

Personally I don't give a shit if the pair of you want to insult each other until the cows turn blue, but keep it off the forum. In the future lets skip the posts that had no purpose but to insult the other party.

And frankly I don't give a shit who started it either, if you respond you're equally responsible.

honestly, it seems quite obvious that something came down that the more angry people on the forum aren't to be tolerated (for better or worse), and this is probably just another manifestation.

I think this is the kind of response many of us who value this site for its free-flowing but (generally) intelligent dialogue feared.

I remember a time when webdip members were expected to be grownups with a full integumentary system and stuff. Pity.

I would just like to highlight once again the breathtaking use of bait and switch that almost always accompanies such policy changes. Maple posts an extremely outrageous thread, and it is used by the admins to say, "We can't let things this extreme happen on the forum anymore. There must be a change." Assurances are plentiful that only extreme cases are being targeted.

Within -- what? -- two, three weeks, absolutely typical conversations on the forum are being shut down.

It's interesting. It almost always works this way. It's not, of course, as if the admins don't have the power to just announce that they're going to radically change the forum, and go ahead and do it. What's interesting is that they don't do it that way.

I just learned what an integumentary system was.

I wish the site owner had posted recently about how to file an appeal if you don't agree with a mod decision. It's also a shame I didn't just update the rules saying exactly how to do that.

Sarcastic advice aside, no we shouldn't swear when offering a warning. Sorry about that. We'll discuss the proper wording for warnings with the entire team to make sure everyone is clear on the respectful way to issue a warning.

If you want to appeal the actual validity of the warning send a pm or email to Zultar and he'll take a look into it.

Honestly, the conversation was nasty, it got me way too angry for a internet forum, I said things that weren't nice at the same time what was the line we crossed? Which post? Because if we are going to go gestapo over here I might as well know where the line lies.

Interestingly enough, an argument can't be made that SC violated any of the recently posted forum rules.

@semck and Tolstoy, my understanding from reading the warning is that it is only targeted at the abusive nature of the posts between the two members, not the actual conversation happening. Though we've established there was a serious wording issue in the warning. So we'll have to get that figured out tomorrow. Since it's extremely late right now where I am I'd appreciate it if we can hold off here until Zultar gets a chance to take a look at this.

And JMO, if I did know how to post an appeal I'd still post this Bull on the forum. I'm glad for the second time it seems, I fought the mod and *I* won.

That's the attitude we'd really like to avoid, there isn't winning or losing here. The mods are members of the community who work to help keep it a fun place for everyone, and occasionally they make mistakes or make a post that doesn't come off the way they intended. We'll get this worked out, I've already told Zultar to take a look as soon as he gets online.

I'm pretty sure he thought it out too, because he addressed the obvious response that Putin initiated the nastiness.
He was trying to sound tough so I wouldn't challenge the very weak grounds he was warning me on.
