Now, if we're including specific mythical creatures, then I'd have to go with Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness, assuming this pet-master relationship means she can't make me wish I were dead.

If specifics are off the table, then I'd probably go with a Skinwalker or other major shapeshifter. Both useful and versatile.

So, a pet, not a slave or livestock....hmmm.

I tend to do well with turtles, but not lizards so a dragon is out. They tend to be extremely intelligent, powerful, avaricious, and magical. Not really pet material. Even wyverns would be hard to manage with the poisonous tail. On the plus side you really wouldn't have to feed them that often.

I'd probably go with a Japanese kirin. A flying unicorn-like creature that can be ridden by certain chosen people (I'd presume since he's mine, I could ride him; it would be no fun at all if I couldn't). He also brings good luck and announces the birth of sages. Again it's a powerful being (arguably even more-so than a dragon), so picking such a creature would have its problems.


If all bets are off (and it could be an animated things) I'd go with Aladin's flying carpet.
