OK, so I had to write a 300-600 word essay on this topic for my entrance exams...

I thought I'd see what you all would have written. So give me a 300-600 word essay on the folliwng (obi, limit it to 300-600 words, larger is penalized by the exam).

Pick a side: Can people choose to be happy, or is happiness out of their control?

Is it only racist when white people do it?

After tweeting the phrase "90% of white ppl are nasty. #HATE THEM" James Edwards would go on to participate in the shooting of Chris Lane. Unlike the zimmerman shooting, this was racially motivated. Would you consider this act racist, or can only white people be racist?

What strikes me about this story is the use of prisoners as slave labour. Right? That forms a kind of unfair competition against commercial interests, unless those interests are in the running of prisons for profit.

After following the poker thread, I thought it would be fun to try to play a tournament with people here, I know we could get sufficient interest for 5-10 people!

The problem is, I can't seem to find a place online we could all just go and join the same private game, not without downloading software and registering and making shit all complicated. I know many of us have our own online place we prefer, but I really just want a free room we can all access with minimal fuss.

Anybody have thoughts?

Some of the software is free, doesn't really affect you. Though if there is a way to do it without software, more power to ya.

software is just a hassle and then depositing money and it's all a slippery slope - especially for someone with a gambling weakness like myself - friendly games are fine but anything that is easily turned into anything more and i just do nothing else (i don't lose money of course but really makes life take a back seat)

PokerStars is free unless you play for money, at which point you need a deposit. I hope that you guys don't plan on playing for money.

Just do it over gchat. One person is the dealer, just txt each player their cards. Would be pretty easy, I think.

You have a dealer who does nothing but deals real cards around a card table. He tells each player privately what their hole cards are and guides the game like a casino dealer would, relaying to all the players what the flop, turn, and river are as well as keeping track of the bets and who is to act next.

No money = no fun. People on no money play tend to play stupidly, at least that is what I have seen on line. Even penny play changes things.

Add in a *real* prize and you alter play too. So the play on ClubWPT.com versus the play on Pokerstars.net or partypoker.net is much better play as the ClubWPT.com folks pay a monthly subscription and are playing for a shot at a WPT event or a poker table for their home or a box of cigars or a watch or cold hard cash or... You get the idea. So they want to see the end and don't just all-in on 72 off cause they feel like seeing if they can get lucky.

It's a tournament among webDippers... we're all rational enough (albeit barely for some) not to go all-in with 2/7 off suit on the first hand out of the game with a full table.

I agree, krellin/draug. I think you should always play for (small amounts of) money in general. Quality of play is waaay better.

A prize is a cool idea. Old YJ could buy like a novelty item and mail it to the winner :P

Bo, you yourself "throw" web dip games when the chips are down, so what makes me.think you wouldn't "all in" in a ridiculous bet in a no-stakes.poker game? There is not a great deal of.evidence IMO that WebDip player = rational thought/play. No offense.

I guess I was hoping that what bo is saying is right, that people wouldn't act like idiots just because we get bragging rights here. Experience should dictate that that may not be the case, however.

And if you are using a dealer/game master to avoid the software (and the time zone issues), then you should get him or her a little something as well.

The real challenge will be preventing cheating by players sharing their card knowledge in a given hand like "You obviously have an Ace, well I threw one away pref lop, so be careful" kind of thing.

Well, software becomes problematic in that everyone needs to be online at the same time. You can't have it run over a longer period, so your players will likely be all from one side of the pond or another unless you get the right time on a Saturday.

FP for Gunboaters

I've got a great gunboat GR, but a terrible FP GR, and its killing my overall. I know a lot of other primarily gunboat players are in the same boat. Anyone interested in a gunboater's full press game?
