Ray Lewis
I used to watch this guy when I was 6 or 7 and imitate his pregame routines... he was the greatest linebacker I ever got to watch. I wore #52 on my jersey when I played football in middle school and I would have before then if they had gone that high. I know I'm going to miss watching him. Come this Sunday I have to choose my favorite player or my favorite team... whatever happens, I know I'll miss Ray Lewis.

Just one more example of lies coming out of the media.
If you've seen the news recently, then you've probably heard that a deal on the fiscal cliff will come out of the Senate, and it's up to the House to vote on it. Actually, the CONSTITUTION (as if these weisels read it) states that all bills dealing with revenue and finances must come out of the House of Representatives. I just wanted to point that out to you, and hopefully shed some light on what else is in the Constitution that we are ignoring (i.e. 2nd & 10th Amendments)

Does anyone here ever play FtF with irl friends?
And if you do, how do you prevent metagaming? In my experiences playing FtF, metagaming is rampant, but maybe that's just because of the group of friends I play with.

I would like to know why people think Obama is good? I personally believe that he is a very bad president but I am also open to let people convince me otherwise. Why or why not is he a good president?

I need some help
My mom had a cerebral aneurysm rupture 3 days ago, and she's in the hospital right now in critical condition. I'm staying with my dad right now. I'm wondering if any of you on here have gone through this or had a family member go through this and could offer me some advice on how to handle this.

I would say playing in Klingon, but at that point you're really just playing Gunboat.

More chainsaw than gunboat.

What's nerdy about Klingon? It's the badassesst of languages.
Halt (270 D)
28 Dec 12 UTC
I would say that playing in Latin is Gunboat in and of itself...talking to people in English is hard enough. Talking to them with an obscure language?

What you meant to say: Hello there!
What they see: DIE DIE DIE I WILL KILL YOU DIE STAB
ghug (5068 D(B))
28 Dec 12 UTC
@Halt, anyone playing will be relatively fluent. Latin's not THAT obscure.
Halt (270 D)
28 Dec 12 UTC
There are still people fluent in Latin?

But...why? It's a dead language.

@Halt, we learn it in school. I took it because my high school cancelled the language I had been taking (French) and I didn't want to take Spanish 1 with all of the idiots. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I learned a lot, it gave me really interesting insights into history and linguistics, and it was a lot of fun.

Latin will be difficult to communicate in, but really, I took three years. There is no word order either, so you could probably get away with using a translator unlike most languages anymore. Of the four languages I know, it is certainly the simplest, and it is probably the easiest for English speakers other than German.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
29 Dec 12 UTC
That's right YJ :-)
You can stick it in translate.google.com and see it comes out right :D
dubmdell (556 D)
29 Dec 12 UTC
Gods, can you say anything more ignorant, bo_sox? There is /relatively free/ word order, not "no word order." If you had three years of Latin, I shouldn't have to point this out to you, much less explain it.

And Halt, yes, there are quite a few of us who write and read Latin every day. Some of us even do Greek and Sanskrit and Hittite.

However, I will be obtaining from this game. I have too many going on right now as is. If only this had been posted prior to the Around the World Map Gunboat tournament, I would have had time....

Okay, thanks dub. Yeah, I could find something much more ignorant to say, don't make me try. I could always say that 9/11 was Bush's fault or something. Hell, it could be Obama's fault. Al Gore did it? What do you want from me?
ghug (5068 D(B))

I know very little Latin so probably shouldn't play but like the idea (I took 1 latin course, I know the first 3 declensions and conjugations, I could probably use google translate if vocabulary that I am unfamiliar comes up.)

@Fasces, how much grammar do you know? Vocab will only get you so far if you can't identify our constructions.
NigelFarage (567 D)
30 Dec 12 UTC
Google translate for Latin is a horrible idea. They provide the shittiest translations (I'm subscribed to the Latin subreddit, and 25% of the posts there involve correcting people before they permanently mark their bodies with tattoos they got from google translate, so I've seen quite a bit of what it does). For some reason, they can't process declensions of nouns and conjugations of verbs. If you want a useable English-Latin translator, Whittaker's Words is best (google it; I'm on mobile), and wiktionary can be decent.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
31 Dec 12 UTC
@ghug First 3 declensions and conjugations in present and future tense. I know very littke vocabulary though, hence why I will probably need to use google translate for some (most) words.

I akso don't know word order but some people tell me word order doesn't matter (and ofhers say it does if you take Latin later in later university years).

So it's probably not enough to play right?
Timur (684 D(B))
31 Dec 12 UTC
Word order is very important.
