Wait - He's only played one game and none of the other players were banned for multi. Did he just create another account to post this thread and play a game? That seems dumb

Celebrimbor2017 has been banned for being a multi account but does that mean that the person who created the multi is allowed to carry on playing, and also is the person who created the account actually playing in the game that this guy has entered?

OK, so when it says Multi is it a person who has already been banned trying to create a new account.?
I thought a multi was a person with an existing account creating a second Player ID

Sorry for being unclear. I'm referring to your initial question. When a player is banned, their profile comments are erased and replaced with a message written by the mods, usually indicating why they were banned. If a player is unbanned, their profile comments are not restored, although the player may edit them as usual under settings.

OK, so this guy joined in November 2012 and has only played 19 games and has already been banned and unbanned, I guess he wasn't on his own so there is at least one more person in the same situation. As soon as he edits his User profile we will never know he was a metagamer, is that because he was banned by mistake?
I have a dream ........every single player who has been found metagaming should be flagged on their profile so when I create an anonymous gunboat I can tick a box that says 'Disallow All Metagamers'. Maybe if I pray hard enough the Good Lord in his infinite wisdom will grant me my wish.

But abge... Nigee *thinks* he is special and that he should be allowed to metagame by knowing forever if someone else has ever been accused of being a metagamer. He doesn't believe in forgiveness and second chances and clean slates and wants to be allowed to metagame in those cases. Can't you let him do that?

If you have a concern about a specific game, I suggest you email the mods. If only one person was banned in your game, though, it is likely that no cheating was happening in that particular game.

@ghug - to be fair I don't give a damn if people like me or not. It's not a popularity campaign it's a Diplomacy website, if I want to be popular I'll go save the poor in Africa.
But you make a good point as people don't seem to care about playing in games with cheats and meta-gamers and it really annoys me, I don't know why, maybe I just have a heightened sense of fair play or maybe I just abhor cheats.
It's not always like this but lately it is happening almost every night and as I play in anon gunboats I can't warn the other players to sort out the cheaters, but I also realise that there would not be anywhere near as many live gunboats without them so it is a bit of a catch 22 situation.
Maybe I just need to learn to be as relaxed about meta-gaming as everyone else seems to be on this site, I think an attitude adjustment is required on my behalf.
The good news is that I'm seeing a therapist about this and she says I'm making great progress so it's not all bad.

Coming as a mod from another diplomacy site (vdiplomacy). I can say that many (if not most) multi accusations are directed to people who are reletively new (first 6ish weeks).

So someone who joined in November 2012 could have been accused last month, a mod banned him, he appealed the case, won the appeal and got unbanned.

I hope this clarifies your concern Nigee.

I agree with Fasces349's response to Nigee's question, and it is a trend noticed in WebDip as well (that is, people who are banned are normally relatively new to the website). That is mostly because those accounts are cheater-run accounts that only see action under the supervision of the cheating party (or parties).

By the way, did you notice that the guy who pointed this out got banned for multi?

@Lando, the cheating in no way impacted your games.

@everyone who's curious, Multi means someone with more then 1 account. Not all multi accounters join games with their other accounts. Some people make an account for gunboats and an account for full press, some to take over cd countries, some to point mine, some to talk to themselves, etc. It doesn't matter why someone has multiple accounts, it is not allowed. This person was banned for being a multi accounter and rejoined, and was hence banned again.

@Nigee, quite a few people are given second chances, when this happens the mod team does not simply unban them, we watch their account and make sure they don't cheat in the future, but as abge mentioned, the specifics are no one's concern. Just know that many people who are given second chances end up becoming well known members who contribute positively to the community.

Irl, I always offer to share my pizza with people who are willing to give me supply centers, face-to-face games usually go on so long that people become hungry enough that this seems like a great deal! It's not meta-gaming if you consider that human hunger is part of the players, part of the game that i'm using against them, right? (now sleeping with an opponents girl is a bit more problematic unless she is part of the team...)
