Using a convoy to make units trade places
The diplomacy rules allow units to trade places when a convoy is involved for one or both units. Does the our software recognize this or is there a bug that makes the units bounce?

Checkmarks and "Ready"
All the time, people claim to see who has marked themselves "Ready" in a game. The only thing that I can see is the checkmark next to powers, which, unless I'm mistaken, means that you have saved moves and won't NMR, but not that you're "Ready" and will process as soon as others all "Ready."

Is there something they see that I don't? Or is this just a broad misconception of what that indicates?

Language shapes the way we perceive and think of the world. Even if you guys can't conceive why something like this might be relevant it actually influences your way of thinking. You can see this from the use of he, and man (as in mankind) as reference to all of humanity. Language use encourages people to see men as the default human being. If you keep an ear open to it you'll see this occurring daily. I can go on about negative consequences but you guys don't seem to understand the importance of language itself.

I just use mankind over humankind most of the time because it's one less syllable.
When I hear the word "mankind" I actually automatically picture a crowd of people full of both genders.
Lethologica (203 D)

DO, it's one thing to be aware of the male default and female diminutions in the English language and their interplay with similar phenomena in society; another to think womyn will stick in the lexicon outside the register of second-wave-adjacent feminists; and yet another to think adding a *non-alphabetic character* will help the change stick, no matter how neat it looks in a regex.
Durga (3609 D)

Yeah I don't think it'll stick and I don't like the y instead of the e anyway. Clearly the only way to do it is to eventually move towards a genderless society where such things don't matter. A move towards a gender neutral "they" is a nice start.

What amuses me is how offended people like Leon and krellin get over the desire to change language that has a dark connotation or past. Like holy shit, someone just shot their dog - how dare feminists try to change a letter?
leon1122 (190 D)
01 Jun 16 UTC
DemonOverlord, unfortunately, I don't see the problem. Men WERE the dominant sex for much of history, so it is natural that gendered words defaulted to men. Since I doubt many women are actually offended by seeing the word "woman" or that men think of women as an attachment to man because of how words are spelt, I see little reason to change the English language for these petty disputes. And that's the point of this post, that feminists are fighting over such trivial matters that are prime examples of why people mock first-world problems.
leon1122 (190 D)
01 Jun 16 UTC
"A move towards a gender neutral "they" is a nice start."

That's even worse than wom*n, actually. They is plural, and now you're trying to change English grammar. A single person cannot be "they". I don't care if 0.01% of people want to be identified as having no gender. That's simply an impossibility and being ridiculous. It's like a child pointing to a dog and insisting it's a cat.

I'm happy to engage with anyone who actually understands that men *are* still largely the better-off sex in all fields such as politics, employment, media, etc. If you can not understand something that simple than discussing anything with you is a waste of time. While I do think women's rights are improving in North America, there is still a good way to go to achieve equality.

Leon, you've done well to establish yourself as an idiot on these forums that no one other than Al, krellin and co. will ever take seriously. I don't know where all the hate you have comes from but I feel bad for you. I hope you eventually find happiness and become content with life, then maybe you'll be able to exhibit some sympathy for the plight of others.

"I don't see the problem. Men WERE the dominant sex for much of history, so it is natural that gendered words defaulted to men."

Well, in that case, you also shouldn't see a problem with the language continuing to change as gender equality develops, unless gender equality is interrupting your juvenile power fantasies, but I'm sure *that* isn't happening.

"That's even worse than wom*n, actually. They is plural, and now you're trying to change English grammar. A single person cannot be "they"."

Singular they has been in common usage for about forty times as long as you've been alive, leon. You're just defending a more formal register from perceived degradation, with typically blinkered absolutism. L2languagepls.

"You're all insufferable."

Why, thank you!
