Using a convoy to make units trade places
The diplomacy rules allow units to trade places when a convoy is involved for one or both units. Does the our software recognize this or is there a bug that makes the units bounce?

Checkmarks and "Ready"
All the time, people claim to see who has marked themselves "Ready" in a game. The only thing that I can see is the checkmark next to powers, which, unless I'm mistaken, means that you have saved moves and won't NMR, but not that you're "Ready" and will process as soon as others all "Ready."

Is there something they see that I don't? Or is this just a broad misconception of what that indicates?

How much do you earn?
I'm curious about two things.

First, how much money do you earn a year, fellow webDippers? What's your salary? Second, how many of you are slightly uncomfortable answering the first question? (and why?)

To answer your questions:

1. You ever see those hip hop videos where they are on boats and in front of a Bentley? Those videos with the Benjamins and the booty everywhere? They all copied that from my lifestyle.
2. Nah. I gotta represent.

About 14500$ a year. I don't have a salary and am instead paid hourly. Very mild discomfort re. answering the question. As I'm slightly conscious of the fact that I'm making next to nothing given the number of hours of my life I'm selling.

I earned a little less than €1000 in 2015 with minimal time investment, I have no salary and I have no clue for 2016. How much tangible cash is even trickier, but as for 'value gain' I estimate that's going to depend about 1% on the economy, 20% on the potential clients and 79% on how much time I wish to spend and in what ways/how efficiently. The economy is the only factor which can be seen as somewhat predictable at the moment.
I don't find the first question awkward, it's just that my answer tends to cause more questions which can be annoying especially since I'm at one of those points where I *really* don't know what I'm worth a year from now.

Could you answer these questions for yourself as well?

Is it not obvious? Not only is it completely irrelevant to anything to do with diplomacy, it invites people to make judgements based on woefully inadequate information. What is the benefit of sharing such information?

I 'earn' about 25% of what I receive. Rest is unearned. I'm lucky.

Don't mind answering, not really bothered about taxman finding out, but wouldn't like my wife finding out.

As a matter of fact, I was prompted to post this after watching this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xH7eGFuSYI

I was mostly interested by the second part of the question - the concept that talking about how much (or little) you are paid is some kind of social taboo.

Since steephie asked, I earn a few pence under £34,000 per year (before tax). I think this is about $48,000, or €43,000, roughly.

I earn $100 an hour. Annualized, that's about $205,000.00 before factoring in equity.

Discomfort? On the contrary, I was secretly hoping someone would ask this question as I have for years been keen to point out to my fellow Diplomacy players that I make lots more money than they do, but would have felt ostentatious bringing it up.

I was raised to never ask about how much others make nor to ever tell others how much I make, so the question does make me quite uncomfortable, despite my knowledge that isn't a good reason.

I'm an unemployed bum so I earn nothing.

This frees up my time to resent you asking before going out to a comic book shop to see if they really shipped the next Dirk Gently comic this week.
Octavious (2802 D)

It sounds a decent enough reason to me. There is a clear reason why sharing earnings information has a significant benefit within many office environments, as illustrated in Jamie's video, but that benefit doesn't exist in the medium of an online board game forum. The negative aspects, however, still do.

I am in an interesting spot; I have 3 incomes 2 of which aren't very consistent but they are very dependable. I work for one job making slightly above minimum wage so I make about $13,000 a year there. Then I make about 300$ a month freelance writing, and 400$ a month working as a stagehand part time (most hourly wage, but least hours)
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

not really uncomfortable, as a young striving man I see small numbers and think of it as the start of where I can go. ask again next year and I hope to be saying atleast a 50% increase.

Well me and my family do not starve so we are happy. But what a silly question this is for this forum. Knowing what other *claim* to earn here is completely useless information.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
20 Apr 16 UTC
Also, with regards to why you would ask/tell, I enjoy these conversations, if only because they help you get a better view of various job markets and such. It's also interesting from an entrepreneuring point of view: I know better what to offer if I know what people tend to agree on. Especially when you're starting, it can sometimes feel like you're making up things out of thin air and random data helps to remind you of what a number means, in a way that average wages and stuff don't somehow. It's more tangible.

Oh I'm actually writing a book, so I get freelance writing in that sense, but I don't get $300 a month in that context (assuming you don't write a book every month), so I assume he means something else like a blog and I'm just checking what it is exactly.
