I Need Some Games
It's summer, I'm bored and unemployed, it's not spring anymore so I'm afraid to go outside, and I just bought a bunch of bitcoin that the US seized from Silk Road and I'm gonna go use it on Silk Road 2.0 - irony anyone?

Long story short - who wants to play...

parameter "fromterrID" set to invalid value "17" mean
This came up when I was playing a game as Italy. I tried to convoy an army from Greece to Marseilles ( I had fleets in the Ionian sea, tyrennien sea, and gulf of Lyon ) but when I try to support the convoy into Marseilles from the fleet in the gulf of Lyon it gives me the error parameter "fromterrID" set to invalid value "17". What does this mean and how can I fix this. I need an answer soon since the phase moves on at 5 in the morning pacific standard time

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor LOSES Primary to Tea Party Candidate
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/11/us/politics/eric-cantor-loses-gop-primary.html I hate to post two threads in one day, but wow...that's a stunner! He was supposed to be a rising star in the GOP, and reasonably conservative, too...I said back during the Government Shutdown that it was going to hurt moderates more than the Tea Partyers, but WOW...I never thought someone as conservative as Cantor would go. Isolated (if astounding) incident, or indicative of a bigger shift?

What kind of site moderation do we want?
I know that we've had this discussion before. I can't recall what we all preferred, but we have ended up with a mod who sees it as OK to taunt, hound and attempt to out-bully another member. Not only is that likely to bring the site into disrepute but it is borderline criminal in Kestas jurisdiction and could lead to site sanctions. Is this what we want?

Being that I'm a guest here, whatever rule/s Kestas and the Mods want to go by are fine with me.

Concerning jmo and maple, since that's what this is really about, I don't care. They're big boys and can do what they please. No written word alone is going to offend or bother me unless it's a (believable) direct threat, or coming from a person who makes decisions that effect my life.

Personally, I think if jmo wants to wear his mod hat during this spectacle, than he should behave like a mod (see abge), and not exacerbate the situation or goad maple in to crossing lines that could lead to some kind of punishment. If he wants to go all flame war, I'm fine with that too, but he should be taken out of the equation when/if it comes to making a ruling on the matter.

The kind of site moderation that takes out trash like maplepoo.

I have long been unhappy with the current "basically no forum moderation at all" approach. I was pleased when abgemacht was made Forum Ombudsman and I felt he did some good - and therefore it was a shame when he stepped back somewhat from this role.

Light touch moderation is fine, but "light touch" does not mean "no moderation", and as Maniac says, the current state of affairs is not good.

A few months ago I made a complaint, by email to the mods, about another user (Lord Baldy) publically calling, on the forum, people who did not share his political views to be murdered in real life. I received a reply telling me no action whatsoever would be taken against that user. In almost any other public forum there would surely at least have been a stern warning.

Same here partysane. I'm usually pretty lenient with what I'll let slide, but maple has crossed the line like no one else has. Perhaps we should take a community vote on whether or not to forcefully evict maplepoo from the site?

YAY, LET'S ALL HURRY OR WE'LL MISS THE PUBLIC LYNCHING!!!

No, Slyguy. Having popular votes to ban members of a free-to-join public forum is a really, really bad idea.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

@jamie: it's one thing to simply ban someone for minor reasons, but the bottom line is that maple is way out of line. I've been on plenty of diplomacy sites and the kind of hate-filled talk that attacks everything is only found here. Other sites do not prohibit it and it shouldn't go on here either. It's offensive and cares little for the emotions and well-being of others. Playful joking is one thing. Even coarse joking I can handle, but this is far beyond that sort of thing and only drives others away. I've been on webdip for over 4 years now and remember when it was more peaceful. I was proud to be a member of this community. Now? Now, something needs to happen or it will drive people like me elsewhere. If it means banning one jerk, then do be it. Mute isn't enough.

@ tru ninja:

You're missing my point.

I agree that mapleleaf is annoying and sometimes offensive. I would support some kind of action being taken against him. I was not for one moment suggesting nothing should be done.

HOWEVER what the response should NOT be, is the introduction of explusions on the basis of a popular vote. That's open to abuse.
Slyguy270 (532 D)

Meh. You can blame President Eden and captainmeme for that one.

I'm just discussing different options here. People like mapleleaf clearly violate what little standards we have and I think that there needs to be a way to get rid of them. We voted on whether or not to un-ban sandgoof so I thought we could maybe do a similar thing here. Any potential ban vote could still only be initiated by the mods to prevent from random "public lynchings" in the future.
Jamiet99uk (1302 D)
08 Jun 14 UTC
If there was some kind of sensible forum moderation, even on a light touch basis, things would never get to the point where rogue moderators are publicly "taunting" and "hounding" others users, and public lynchings were being called for.
Slyguy is literally retarded. Your pure unintelligence violates all of my standards you useless waste of flesh.Once you can understand basic concepts and logic perhaps then people other than krellin will take note. Until then, read a book and grow the fuck up.

http://webdiplomacy.net/rules.php

See Responsibilities point 1 and 2.
There can be no question that maple has violated those points not once, but on countless occasions. I usually ignore the trolling, insulting and blustering and simply mute the threads I am not interested in. But there are some threads, like the GB Tournament thread, that I simply need to read. If someone like maple uses those threads to insult me and, even worse, ridicules the fact that a family member died and another was seriously injured forcing me to request my games be paused for a week, then that is absolutly unacceptable.
In fact I hardly know a forum, maybe except 4chan, where this kind of behaviour is tolerated.
So I stick to what I said. Ban the fucker. He is hurting this site.
Ogion (3817 D)

When the quality of the forum is so atrocious that it will turn away new players, then the level of moderation or lack thereof is clearly, clearly wrong. I know Kestas didn't want to do it that way, but he is wrong here.

Bottom line, if it hurts the diplomacy playing community it needs to stop one way or another.

In the interim, in the absence of actual moderation, I find self moderation works for me by muting people who makes disruptive comments. Sadly, that's a LOT of people.

Wheather your for or against this type of behavior, it doesnt matter....hate speach, breeds other to hate speech, it brings down the value of everything

this is a great place that can be extrodinary, people should be allowed to speak their minds, but with any good thing there are ways of turning it bad

also there are a LOT of minors on this site, who can be quite impressionable, some semblance of order there has to be

While I'm no fan of maplelaugh and I get that a mod shouldn't mute any member, and I also believe it is an abuse of power for jmo to taunt maplelaugh when maplelaugh can't mute him like I have done to the Canuck.

I recommend either the ability to mute mods be returned (they contact officially via email) and that everyone just mute maple. But, I also support sole.level of moderation even though I haven't in the past. I didn't see all the stuff that went down (I assume it was a maplelaugh thread) but if it got that bad, perhaps it is time we start a level of moderation above where it's at.

This from the guy who doesn't have kids. Not all parents (and that's being generous) police their kids actions, and just because kids are on the internet without the knowledge of their parents doesn't mean it's right for them to have access to certain information if it's possible to stop.

The Favorite Author Tournament: The Sweet 16
Into Round 3 we go, with Team Virgil once again eking out a victory to move on...will it happen again? Will Rowling or Woolf be able to keep busting through that glass ceiling and move on as the only two female authors left? Will Asimov continue to keep the hopes of fans alive, as after a glut of sci-fi writers to start, he's the last one standing? Will Thucy drop the "vote 12 times per turn" thing now that Thoreau and Laozi have gone the way of Shakespeare? 16 enter, 8 move on!

What to do with a bent splint (right word?) in my mouth?
I already called the dentist and I'm going there tomorrow morning since earlier is impossible, but meanwhile I was wondering if there's something I can do to make it less damaging. The thing is that it's very much irritating the flesh around the teeth, as well as presumably pulling my teeth out of position. Can anyone think of a fix?
