WebDip Terms?
okay so im new to this and I can definitely play well (in my opinion) but some terms/acronyms are just confusing. (I figured out dmz and nap myself ^.^) list the ones you use here and give a brief explanation?

I agree completely, I think it took me about 150 games before I learnt how the Support/Hold function worked ...... the easiest and quickest thing to do is ask away, it saves time and people here I'm sure will give you good help or advice

um explanations guys?

@nigee I get the support/hold. I grasped the game quickly. I don't mean the game terms I mean the terms used by the players. ex: whats so special about gunboat?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
03 Feb 13 UTC
gunboat - no press :-)
cardcollector (1270 D)
03 Feb 13 UTC

and press means?
You can send messages (wilson means public messages only while "press" tends to refer to all-messaging OK games)
cardcollector (1270 D)
03 Feb 13 UTC
so gunboat is no messaging, Wilson only public and press means messaging allowed for all?
rallinator (100 D)

DMZ - demilitarized zone; used to make an agreement between players not to move into a specific province or set of provinces.

NAP - non-aggression pact; two players generally agree not to attack each other

NMR - no moves received; a player misses the turn and all his units hold

I know the Russia-Turkey Alliance is called the Juggernaut (stumbled upon that through experimentation) but are there special names for any other ones?
Draugnar (0 DX)

Western Triple/WT is EFG. Central/Axis Alliance is GAI. Those are both popular ones.

AEFGIRT are the first initials for each nation. You'll often see them.used as shorthand especially when referring to alliances like EFRT which makes a nice crusher alliance.

CD - Civil Disorder, if a player NMRs twice (misses two goes) then their country can be taken over and it will say LEFT against their country name. You can still play again even if you have LEFT as long as no-one has taken over your country.

never heard of wilson - but often wondered why nobody called it that way ;) you may also find the expression public press (btw. where does the expression press come from?).
i c/I C = I see.

Oh, the other term that you'll be expected to know is a Lepanto - an Austrian/Italian strike against Turkey that's so common that I'd be suspicious of anyone who didn't know what it meant. It's worth looking up. (e.g. bing.com)

@draug: "alliances like EFRT which makes a nice crusher alliance."

Indeed. No way out of that one ;-)

If you Google "diplomacy alliance" you'll find a site called "the diplomatic pouch" which has very good explanations about the different alliances.

When I create anonymous games, I make a point that people should not name anyone's name, so slyster immediately started referring to me as He Who Must Not Be Named.

Diplomatic Pouch used to run pbm (play by mail) games (and later pbemail games) and that is where the term "press" originated ... public messages (press) could be submitted along with moves for distribution to all players. Private messages were also somewhat restricted by the format/processing approach and typically only one round per phase. This is also where "grey press" (non-attributed authorship) and "black press" (faked authorship) first originated.
Black press always seemed epic to me. Never got to play it though.

@cardcollector: browse this site for a few evenings and you will be up to date. It's an old site, but since Diplomacy is timeless it's still valid: http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/

Another important nickname to know is the Lepanto, referring to a joint Italian/Austrian attack on Turkey via East Med. Also, be sure to memorize the abbreviations of the different provinces on the map. Many people still refer to them in the abbreviated versions, and some oldkoolers like myself still use capitalised for sea regions as was once the fashion.

Thx a lot, VB. I didn't know the grey/black press schemes – so the distinction of "public" press now makes a lot more sense… what a pity, it can't be used here.

Multiple Accounts....
I recently discovered that my friend (Shmoop/dmindlin824/olminlin) actually has multiple accounts. In one game, he even played with two of his accounts at once (and still lost...). What would be the appropriate action to take at this point?

question for name on board game for market
Im making a board game for the market and im taking a pole on which name is better. The two names are war of 4 and Generals command. I know you do not know anything about the game. Dont worry about that. The names have hardly anything to do with discribing it anyway. Im just trying to find out which of the two names you like best.

Just want to double check a rule.
If Germany is doing a self bounce such as Hol-Ruhr, Mun-Ruhr
Would a French move of Piccardy supporting the attack into Ruhr from Munich, and at the same time Burgandy-Munich work for France ? Not exactly sure how the attacking your own troops rules works.

A Shooting a Day Keeps the NRA Away
Someone needs to make this a real point. If you want gun control, outspend the NRA and yell louder than them. No real arguing tactics are going to work so let's stoop down to their level.

Gay sensitivity classes in primary school?
I just read a very disturbing article (in Dutch) about gay sensitivity classes in primary school. Isn't this the kind of stuff that you teach your kids at home? "If you're gay, you can just say so, we're all human." You're supposed to know and admit that you're gay when you barely hit puberty? Disturbing.
