I'm glad they are partnering with the SPCA. Good on them.

My dog is actually a certified therapy dog and he did one of these study breaks at a university last week. I think it's a great idea, students love it, and animals are a great way to take a break and take some pressure off. Libraries have programs where volunteers bring in their therapy dogs for reluctant readers to read to, the animals are non judgmental and are excellent listeners.

I find it funny how much coverage this story is getting. The whole idea is just wacky and funny.

I'm allergic to pet dander. This isn't fair to me as other students will have less stress than me. The university needs to provide an equivalent form of stress relief for students who are allergic to pet dander. I suggest hookers.

I was allergic to chocolate in elementary school. Then someone informed me that there are actually foods that I didn't like.

This is brilliant! Dogs are incredible creatures. Life would be so much worse without them. LSU doesn't do anything like this or let us keep dogs on campus. :(

Now krellin - Don't be knowi9ng dogs. My two boys are the best stress relievers in the world. When I come home in the evening and the wife has been channeling Peg Bundy, well, they make it all better. I sit down, flip on the tube, pull out the laptop to get some work done, and they hope up beside me with their heads on my lap just wanting a little ear scratching. Best stress relief out there.

I'm not knocking dogs. I actually love the idea. I have two dogs, I foster kittens for the local shelter, my parents foster dogs and cats (thus I help care for the puppies on occassion). I'm a total pushover for animals.

All that being said, any self-respecting college kid looking to relieve stress needs to perform an experiment for me: First, go pet a dog....Second, follow my plan and go pet a "kitty" and tell me which is more satisfying....heh heh...

But "kitties" scratch and don't always want to be petted (both types, BTW) and the college "kitties" cost money (go to pay to play with those "Kitties", either cash or dinner and a movie or at least a bottle of unpretentious wine) but petting the puppies is free.
