So I have this huge addition to my family coming in.....
Actually she was born a week ago, but in the spirit of the meme of the day I'd like to announce the birth of my daughter Keilah Rose. 9lbs 13.5oz, 20.25 inches long, cutest thing I've seen since, well, the last time we had a baby. I'm one seriously happy dad.

If it is so evil to be "rich" and we must punish them and take a higher % of their salary away from them because the "have too much"...and we love illegal aliens and want to give them amnesty, and they really have nothing...then shouldn't we *all* be giving up our wealth. It's worth pointing out the oldest people because they have their tips and tricks, but they also have some genetic distinction about them that makes them live for what seems like forever. I'd hate to have the title of oldest person. RIP nonetheless...

Championship Weekend
College football's winding down with some good games this weekend. MAC Championship was crazy, thanks to the Huskies for saving the Orange Bowl. Since the bowl season is fast approaching, who do you think goes BCS bowling, and where's your team going for the bowl season?
[Rankings are predicted after this weekend. I'm guessing on Louisville, too much noise near the bottom of the top 25 to say what's happening.]

BCS Championship: #1 Notre Dame vs #2 Alabama
Rose Bowl: #7 Stanford vs #12 Nebraska
Fiesta Bowl: #5 Kansas State vs #4 Oregon
Sugar Bowl: #3 Florida vs 11 Oklahoma
Orange Bowl: #13 Florida State vs #23? Louisville

As for LSU, they're going to the Cotton Bowl to face Texas. That should be a good game.

Notre Dame's smug, self-satisfied, over-rated, NBC-whoring ways speak for themselves.

The Big 10 (B1G) game is 35-10 right now. Nothing makes sense and everything is awful.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
02 Dec 12 UTC
NBC-whoring… lol… that's called a media contract, not whoring. That's NBC's choice…

Overrated to the point that they're undefeated… the only undefeated team in the nation that didn't earn some random penalties that is. Yes, Ohio State would beat them, but guess what, it doesn't matter.

Smug, self-satisfied = every single person on the #1 team in the country, no matter what school.
Cannot wait for Alabama to roll ND by 30+. One day I'll find a tolerable ND fan. One day...

Also, shout out to Bo Pelini for repping that elite LSU Tigers D cred to the tune of giving up >500 yards rushing, over 400 of that to 2 players, and assisting Wisconsin in setting all-time records.

Shame that Georgia dropped the ball in the championship though. That SEC dynasty is sadly looking more like an Alabama dynasty than anything. We'll get 'em next year. (Hopefully.)

THM - Tedford's finally gone? How do you feel about that?
butterhead (90 D)
02 Dec 12 UTC
hehe bo_sox that obvious huh? Once ODU makes its full transfer to the FBS and starts competing for bowl games(2015) they gonna knock the shit out of some people :P
@PE: Yep, he's gone. Mixed feelings. On the whole, I'm glad because I don't think he was going to get the program to sustained success. I'm concerned that whoever we hire next isn't going to either, in which case I would have rather kept Tedford. I think trying to do better was the right move, it's just too bad it didn't work out.

Hating Notre Dame is like hating Duke basketball -- the only sensible option for any individual of good sense. It's true, Notre Dame's probably not overrated right now, given that they're the only remaining undefeated team not on probation. But that's only a pleasant aberration from the usual excitement over what everybody did back in 1966. And I won't go into my lengthy and perhaps borderline unhinged unhappiness with TV contracts, which are ruining college football. My real beef with ND right now is the knowledge that they won't stop yet another Alabama national title. Kelly's a great coach, though, and I might be wrong.

But I can't hate Notre Dame anymore. Here's an artist's rendition of me:

Putin, are you a Syracuse fan? What do you think about the ACC move?

The SEC has gotten a really, really favorable line-up this bowl season. Less than seven wins would be a surprise.
Putin33 (111 D)
03 Dec 12 UTC
Realignment is really killing my interest in college sports. Since Syracuse is only a basketball power now, I'm saddened about the move. As a basketball conference the Big East was fantastic and we had plenty of rivalries. In the ACC we have only Pittsburgh & Louisville. I'm also sad that we couldn't bring UConn in, since I really enjoy the UConn-SU games. All in all not pleased.
I'm having fun with realignment, but my school (and conference, for that matter) is only good at football and baseball and I don't really enjoy baseball all that much.

I was mad that the ACC didn't get UConn though. They're screwed now :(
*they = UConn

I agree that realignment is hurting college sports, though perhaps not in a short-term bottom line sense. Even the best ("best"?) realignment has consequences -- witness Auburn losing yearly games against teams that had historically been the third and fourth biggest SEC rivals, Florida and Tennessee. The new LSU rivalry (and to a much lesser extent Arkansas) has replaced that to some extent, but I doubt TAMU will ever be the kind of game that Auburn-Florida was.

I think UConn ends up in the ACC if the ACC survives. I am no longer confident that will be the case. If the non-basketball, non-Tobacco Road teams are sick of the North Carolina school dominating the conference and are sick of the conference hurting their football brand, that means that some other conference will look increasingly attractive (probably not the SEC, but maybe the Big XII). I guess the ACC could survive as the new Big East (the Big East being the new Conference USA), a basketball-centric conference on the east coast with a couple of programs doing all the football heavy lifting.

My team...

Doesn't exist, as CSUN doesn't have a football team, and college football's just no fun for me without actually belonging to the college...

I guess since I'll probably go to UCLA, and since it's local and I have a decent amount of Bruin friends (and SC fans are obnoxious) I'd pull for them...but I'll wait until I earn a team via attending said college until I start hollering in bars for anyone.

(The one bowl *I* care about is the Super Bowl...

And WHY THE HELL WOULD HARBAUGH STICK WITH KAEPERNICK AFTER THAT LOSS TO THE RAMS?!?! 3/4 THROUGHA SUPER BOWL RUN IS NOT THE TIME TO START AUDITIONING A NEW QB, ALEX SMITH IS HEALTHY WITH A 70% COMPLETION RATE AND 25/27 WITH 4 TDS IN HS LAST TWO GAMES, GIVE THE MAN BACK HIS JOB HE'S EARNED IT AND okay, then, I'll stop.) ;)

Well, I come from a split household, so I grew up with two teams. On the one hand, Virginia Tech collapsed this year, breaking their longest active streak of ten win seasons, so I'm disappointed. However all was redeemed with one phrase: Roll Tide.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))

As a Syracuse fan as well (being from upstate NY there really is no other option), moving to the ACC is bullshit. Then again, having to play San Diego State and Navy is bullshit too. I'm looking forward to kicking the shit out of Duke and NC and I'm glad that Pitt and Louisville made the switch, but the Big East deciding to boost its football credentials was a *huge* mistake. The Big East has never really been a football conference, basketball was always its strongest sport. Hell, its always gotten seven, eight, or nine teams into the NCAA Tournament every year. Furthermore, the Big East tournament was always fantastic. Better than the NCAA, in most cases. Playing at MSG in NYC is huge for the conference, and having Syracuse, Pitt, and Louisville play the conference tournament in Greensboro fucking North Carolina is a travesty. The ACC arguably has five of the ten best college basketball programs in the country (Cuse, Pitt, Louisville, Duke, UNC) as well as other historically strong programs like NC State and Notre Dame. It makes for some great matchups, but as a Cuse fan, the biggest games each year were UConn and Georgetown, and I'd rather watch those games a hundred times before I watch Syracuse play UNC or Duke.
Putin33 (111 D)
03 Dec 12 UTC
Well, it hasn't been a football conference since Miami won the title in '01 or whatever it was. In the 90s the Big East was a solid all sports league.

Kaepernick is a better QB than Alex Smith. He can run and has a better arm.
Anyone have any informed opinions on Sonny Dykes? Just askin cuz, y'know...
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Did good as OC at Arizona. Did good at his last gig. Needs to bring in a good DC.

And if he falls flat on his face, he'll be easier to fire than Tedford, the man who resurrected Cal football and got the new stadium built, was.

By the way, if any of you all want to talk college football with others, in a conference oriented setting, check out cfn.scout.com. But be aware the rules are pretty strict to keep discussions as discussions and not flame wars. The general forum is boring, but the individual conference forums are good, at least for the SEC, B1G, Big 12, and Pac-12.
Dykes looks like a solid hire. He had Louisiana Tech on track to become the undisputed #2 team in Louisiana, which is a big deal around here (obviously #1 isn't in doubt, but the other LA schools, Tulane excepted, compete pretty fiercely for the #2 spot, and Tech, IIRC, was probably the hardest of the three to win at).

Just hope your AD isn't a moron. lol. La Tech's bowl bungle this year was hilariously bad. I think that was the nail in the coffin for them keeping Dykes. Doubt Cal has that problem, La Tech's management is... highly questionable.

All in all, good hire, Alderian makes a good point as well in saying that if you guys could fire Jeff friggin Tedford that you'll not have to worry about keeping Dykes around if he's a failure.
Yay. I miss the early Tedford years when we would routinely put up 40+ points every week. There's a lot of cautious optimism around Berkeley on this hire, assuming a good DC hire (rumored to be DeWayne Walker in the lead).

The problem with conference-specific discussion is the limited perspective. I know what Dykes did in Arizona (P10 school), but it's harder to get ground level intel on what he did in Louisiana.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
07 Dec 12 UTC
So you pop over to the WAC board at cfn and see what they say. It isn't like posters are relegated to only the conference board of their preferred team.
