Corruption in American Government
How can a "Federal Prosecutor" invoke the Fifth Amendment in testimony before Congress and not lose their job immediately? I can understand invoking the Fifth, but not keeping your job as a federal prosecutor after doing it.

Would you rather be represented by trustees or delegates?
Dear political trolls,
Do you believe that we would be better off if we were represented trustees (who act in the best interest of the people they represent regardless of the popular opinion) or delegates (who act the way that the majority of the people that they represent, wether or not they believe it is in the best interest of the people)?

NFL Pick 'Em: CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK
AFC and the NFC all come down to this! Need to pick one correctly to stay alive. Will it be the Pats and their offense? The Ravens and the joke of their quarterback Flacco? The resurgence of Alex Smith and the 49ers? Or will it be Eli Manning and the Giants? PICK 'EM!

The ethics of resignation.
I'm in a game with at least one utter moron, and several people who may or may not be. Is it ever OK to just quit a game because the competition is utterly uninteresting?

Who would you choose? (Any Americans? Gonna be awkward if we in America have, elected as our President, someone who speaks Portuguese, after all...)

Seriously the O-man seems to have a good rep. overseas... as to who I would choose to be the ruler of the world? I would have to elect someone who is thinking about the following issues.

1st: climate change - a drastic change in how the world's climatology is adapting to the amount of shit that the industrial world is pumping into the atmosphere
2nd. a rapid depletion of oil reserves - how seriously are we taking this issue? it affects every industry from agriculture to IT... how will we live if we have to pay $8 a litre at the bowser... not to mention how prices like this will effect the farmer...
3rd. ecological immigration; how much longer can we assume that the nation state holds legitimate rule over the territories that it claims? the artificial borders that Western Nations hold to be sacrosanct are not seen as being sacred by the vast majority of humanity.
4th. at what point do we realise that the engine for continued economic sustainability begins in the back-yard? I mean how many people out there are actually growing their own food, and how long can we remain reliant on a system of industrial food/water production/delivery?

I think I would vote/endorse an individual who addresses these issues, and gives clear and substantial solutions to alleviating the effects of what we have actually achieved over the last 100-150 years, ie... pollute the environment, provide fuck-all for our children's children, and.... I could go on here but you get my point.

@Kaner - While I agree with some of what you say, you must realize two things. First not everyone has a backyard to grow their own food and, even if they do, a global economy and advancement of civilization means not everyone can be a farmer even on a small scale. Somebody has to go design stuff and somebody else has to build it and yet somebody else has to see to the day to day operations of the organizations with the designers and the builders.

Second, not every climate is conducive to growing food. Mankind has grown to large to live just in fertile climates.

yup - we're pretty f*cked I reckon. So the sooner we actually start to do something about it the better. That sort of attitude will only delay the inevitable INHO.

Being a realist is not an attitude. What do you plan to do? Kill widows, orphans, and the infirm because they can't care for themselves? Or maybe you plan to enforce a maximum age like in Logan's Run or do like the Chinese and set limits on the number of Children to a family.

For population I read an idea where everyone was entitled to 3/4ths of a child. This way all couples have the right to 1 child and have 1/2 a right left over. They could then arrange to buy a 1/2 right from another couple if they wished to have another child, or they could sell their half on (1/4th per person).

This would create a market value for the cost of having a baby, reduce the amount of children being born and help to make sure that siblings are being born into families that can afford the upkeep.

Idealistic I know and entirely unrealistic, but it's an idea. BTW. even if you live in an apartment building you can still grow some herbs in pots...
Draugnar (0 DX)
21 Jan 12 UTC
Herbs in pots is not selfsustainable growth. i thought you meant the farming had to be fully selfbsustainable. for what it isbworth, we will be planting a small garden this spring at our new house and i alreadyvstarted a compost pile at the very back of our .6 acre lot.

"President Romney" - I love the sound of that! Registered to vote for the first time just last week, with great excitement to be voting for Mittens. The most qualified man to run for the executive office in years, he will make a fantastic 2 term President in the erratic world in which we live.

If you want another Obama in the office, choose Mitt. He flip flops on every topic depending on who asks the questions. Ron Paul has good idea, but is laughable. Gingrich has baggage, but if left to debate Nobama, he would have him for dinner. Romney, not even close

You're kidding right?

"The most qualified man to run for the executive office in years, he will make a fantastic 2 term President in the erratic world in which we live."

LOL, you're trolling. Didn't you say this about Herman Cain a month or so ago?
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Jan 12 UTC
@kaner, I said .6 as in over half but not quite two thirds or really six tenths. It's actually .57 acres (25000 sq. ft.) but .4 of it is in the backyard which is 175' deep by 100' wide roughly. We have the first 50' of depth fenced in for the dog with a gate leading to the other 125' which is lined by old pear trees. The land used to be a farm that was subdivided in the late 60s and the lots were kept private by leaving up the trees in the pear orchard area which we bought in. It's an old house at 40+ but we love it and we love the big lot. So a small veggie garden and a flower garden with a sitting area are both in the plans.

Romney/Santorum running for the GOP? Newt and Perry seem finished...that leaves Paul, and Romney's won most of the states, and Santorum has the mainstream support--is Paul done as a GOP candidate? 3rd party run? Totally out?
