Sorry this is late, this is also my first EoG. I was Germany.
First of all, thanks everyone for playing and not CDing when it counted, that rarely happens anymore (England, that was not cool at the end but at least it had no effect on the eventual result).
That said, the east made it frighteningly easy for me.
1901: My opening was standard, and so were most others. France's seemed both original and effective; I planned to ally with him if possible. Russia and Italy both made a mad dash for my natural ally Austria, which wasn't good. In the fall, I bounced Russia out of Sweden as he was set to make big gains in the south, not least because of his intrusion on Austrian territory. I chose to "cover" Munich (though I knew it was likely useless) to avoid attracting too much attention with 6 immediate centers. In the meantime, France took Burgundy, and England committed himself to an attack on Russia. My builds were fairly standard and flexible; France's seemed to indicate a Western Triple, which I naturally distrusted as Germany.
1902: In the spring, I moved my fleet toward Russia with the intent of taking Sweden, which I did in the fall. I maneuvered noncommittally with my armies while France set up to take Belgium. He also moved his fleets north, which was a nice surprise. In the fall, England did not take kindly to France’s movements and so remained friendly to me. In the east, things looked less promising, with Austria eliminated and a potential Juggernaut looming despite England in St. Petersburg.
1903: I am not happy about France’s buildup on my border, so I try my best to signal that with a support as I take Ruhr, concluding that he is better to attack if he does not try to demilitarize. Also I move my “extra” unit toward Russia to slow the potential Juggernaut. In the fall, I stab and take Burgundy as Austria is eliminated.
1904: I outguess France and take Belgium. Turkey stabs Russia. By the fall I have taken Gascony, almost encircling France; England’s progress is far slower. Russia destroys Warsaw instead of Bothnia, which he needed far less.
1905: I strut into Warsaw and, subsequently, Moscow and Marseilles as France is collapsing and Russia incomprehensibly suicides. The southeast is still an enormous mess. Decide against stabbing England too early, and build two armies to get his trust.
1906: Pick up Warsaw, cement alliance with England, prepare to take Paris. IRT still at each others’ throats. I thought England’s 3 builds were a cause for concern because of no F Lvp, but maybe that’s just paranoia.
1907: I act accordingly, securing my border while still signaling an alliance with supports. Fortunately the east does not take advantage of our distraction. England does not stab.
1908-1909: I dash east, maintaining the alliance. In fall ’09, with 16 centers, I build two fleets to go for the win against England.
1910-1911: England CDs as I finish off, going on a coloring spree at the end.
England: The CD at the end was not cool. Before that, thanks for being a good ally.
France: Good try, your opening was creative and you put up a good fight. The warring east screwed you over.
Italy: Not sure what you were thinking half the game.
Austria: Ouch. Try the hedgehog next time.
Russia: Your suicide was unnecessary. It was far too early to leave your centers open for me like that.
Turkey: I think stabbing Russia when you did back in 1904 was a bit premature. Otherwise, it’s hard to blame you.
Good game all.
