This Time On Philosophy Weekly: Chekhov and Plato Play a String Duet
In his dialogue "Phaedo," Plato's representation of Socrates makes the argument for a human "soul," and states that it's somewhat like a harmony from a harp, that is, representative and yet beyond the actual harp itself. In his short story "Ward No. 6," Chekhov's protagonist, Andrey Yefimitch, muses aloud that a broken violin, far from still being represented by a harmony, is just a heap of rubbish, as it's purely physical, so once broken, that's it. Which maestro's song's truer?

Pauses
Will everyone in the game have to hit unpause or will games be forced unpause after 72 hours?

If people don't unpause and there is no forced unpause, how long until we should get a mod involved?

The Poor need jobs not handouts
The overwhelming basis of arguments put forth by supporters of Big Government on this board use "the poor" as a rational for almost everything.
The problem with this line of reasoning is the poor need jobs not handouts.
Handouts keep the poor poor and dependent.

500 Errors.
I think I'm causing them. I have internet explorer set to open it 500 times when I click on the WebDiplomacy link. And since I'm on all the time, I'm constantly refreshing the pages and stuff that crashes servers. Not to mention I know how to hack into the server if I wanted. I'm thinking about doing it just to show all of you how far I could go as the cult of personality here in WebDiplomacy World! Now give me 1200 D now!

Double mute button fail
When a page is loading I can see posts from a certain person I'm muting. When it fully loads they go away. That's fail #1. Fail #2 is that somehow, while a thread that I created was loading, I saw a post from someone I muted. I thought that people you mute can't see your threads?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Aug 11 UTC
Clearly, the muting is down post-loading. The entire page is loaded and then adjusted for you. This is the same reason the Game Master Clock is different when you first load a page. Is it really that big of a deal?

It is a big deal if the Conservative Man is trying to mute himself.
Keep at it, dude. You will succeed one of these days.
What about Fail #2? I have a certain person muted, but he posted on my advice thread. I thought muted people can't see your threads?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Aug 11 UTC
No. You can't see muted people's threads. They can still see you. It's a mute button, not a deaf button.
Hmmm.... I thought Goldfinger said on his thread about muting Tettleton that Tettleton couldn't see it. I guess he's wrong and Tettleton can see that thread, then?

I think we need a "helen keller" button then. :)

I disagree. I don't think you should get to chose who sees your posts. That's what PM is for.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Aug 11 UTC
Fail #1: As has been pointed out, the javascript has to run to hide the posts, so it isn't really a fail so much as your browser and internet connection being slow.

Fail #2: It's a mute feature, not a hide feature. You won't see their posts but of course they can see yours.

The only real Fail here is Fail #3: Your attitude in assuming these were fails when they were actually your ignorance in understanding how the function works and it's purpose. Get a better attitude or Fail #3 is an Epic. Fucking. Fail!
@Draug: How exactly do I have a bad attitude? I was semi-joking when I called them fails.

Well, it didn't read that way. You called them fails. It read as if you thought they were serious issues. No smiley faces or "hehe"s or anything.

If you want to deny that you were serious and be self-deceived, so be it. But it read as you were very serious and needed an attitude adjustment.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
04 Aug 11 UTC
Sometimes you get too serious, draugnar. ;)
@Draug: For some reason I rarely use smileys and such on. I think it goes along with my asperger's (I rarely use big facial expressions and gestures in real life, and people tend to think I'm serious when I'm really not).

I can solve your problem: Stop being a douche, man up, and stop muting people. Apparently you are confident enough in your own convictions to be confronted by disagreeable opinions, or don't have enough emotional control to control your anger when confronted with trolls.

I think you need counseling....or drugs....either of which may improve your ability to cope with reality and not be so angry and/or offended by public forum posts.
krellin (80 DX)
04 Aug 11 UTC
Whoops...you are NOT confident enough in yoru convictions. My bad....well, you bad, actually, but I didn't describe it correctly int he above post.
@Krellin: I read some of your post before the page loaded and it disappeared (you're the only person I've muted), and that just made me realize why I muted you in the first place. You're an asshole.
krellin (80 DX)

He's muted me...and yet he just responded to me. Must have reloaded his page a couple times....or has a a *really* slow computer. Or he's just a fucking liar.
krellin (80 DX)
04 Aug 11 UTC
You will note, though, that even though he claims to mute people, he LOVES to read what they post whenver he sees it. Probably has worn out his F5 button reloading pages to make sure he reads everything his muted people are writing. lol What a fool. He mutes people....and then reads their posts before the java kicks in...and then responds to them.

Maybe he should just man up and act like and adult and respond to people instead of pretending he is hiding from them/muting them. The irony, the absolute foolishness or his own admission is about the funniest thing I have read today. I will now mock Conservative Man whenver possible. (And for the record...he's *NO* Conservative....Conservatives have enough cahones to not have to mute people, but instead have the courage of their conviction and so-called morality to fight what they perceive as evil and wrong. Conservative Man is a fraud.)
krellin (80 DX)
04 Aug 11 UTC
Says Conservative Man on another thread: "I have an IRRATIONAL fear of embarrasment" I guess this is why he mutes people: He is afraid. He is afraid of people disagreeing with him and making him look like a fool....though he is *quite* capable of looking like a fool all by himself. In fact, MOST of his posts on the :"Advice" thread make him look like a complete fool. His lack of touch with reality is rather astounding, and frightening...

Krellin, you fucking used tampon, you are an idiot.

First, hit F5 then just hit Esc. No need to constantly hit F5 as it is easy to stop the javascript with Esc. But you are so fucking stupid you could never have figured that out.

Second, yes it is a public forum. So is a street corner. But if someone acted out like you do on a street corner, the cops would come and throw his ass in jail for disturbing the peace. Instead, we only have a mute option, so we use it on fucktards like you.

Don't bother responding because I do have you muted and only did the F5-Esc combo because of CM's posting. I just had to see how fucking stupid you were. No disappointment or suprise. You were just as stupid as I expected.
