Featured game?

What is a featured game? One of the games I am playing got a star next to it, and it says that is is a featured game, with one of the highest stakes. Is this something automatic?

Go for the win or draw with good players

In the eyes of a high point player, is it better to try to go for the win or take a three-way draw (in world map). What is more "respected"? What creates more "trust" for future games? (I know its a form of meta-gaming, but I think that for long-playing players-it appears important). Thanks for your opinions.

Retreating in an endgame situation

I just finished an anonymous gunboat game and I do not believe that any of the dislodged units in the last season were permitted to retreat. Surely under certain circumstances that retreat could be the difference between a solo and a draw, no? Does webDip process the win before or after autumn retreats, and/or does it have programming to know whether the retreat can affect the outcome of the game?

The Wonderful 100: History's Greatest Persons

There are so many people on this site with so many interests, and so many important people throughout history at that, I thought it might be interesting to see who and what we value throughout mankind. "Great" can be any combination of importance, influence, and personal feeling for the person, can even be "evil" people--everyone nominates 5, when we reach 100 or so, we'll vote and see...WHO are Wonderful 100, the Greatest Figures in Human History (and who'll be"#1!") ;)

1. There are always more improvements that need work than could possibly be accomplished
2. Players obsess (sorry, Bask!) about anything which may slightly impact GR: banned players having losses wiped, whether a 5 person draw will negatively affect GR, whether the GR of a player should help drive whom you ally with (and attack), whether one's GR at the beginning of a game...or end of a game...is used.... and this list is just from the past 10 days!

In response to number two, having a defeat suffered at the hands of a multi wiped from your record doesn't seem an unreasonable request, if not a bit impractical. It does affect more than GR, and when you have losses on your record that arguably wouldn't be there if the game had been legit, deleting those games from the record seems a justifiable complaint.

Hey....a new idea! No charge for playing on the site..... but a $1 paypal charge for each suggested improvement, bug alert, or email to the mods! Vam, I agree with your comment, it's a justifiable complaint, my point was that it is easy to ask for other people to fix and improve on a FREE site....

6. You're not allowed to just have a personal opinion that someone is a jackhole. You're not just talking as a private party, you're one of the nigh-invulnerable _mods_, who must maintain the air of impartiality...

7. Each time you investigate someone you have to decide basically if you believe them, and if not then ban them, leaving you wondering if you've made the wrong decision and banned a valued member.

@Vamos - I agree, and have mentioned this on the dev forum before. At the moment we can't remove finished games though, so guess that's that. http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=604

You can't ban another mod - Ghost tried to ban me when he first started :P

Looking at recent activity, it would seem the only active mods are Julien & me.
A complete list is (to the best of my knowledge) Kestas, Dangermouse, Chrispminis, thewonderllama, figlesquidge, Ghost, Xapi, Alderian, Orathaic & Julien
Think thats all, although not 100% sure

#8 You get suckered into doing urgent maintenance for fork sites you otherwise never hear from :-E

#9 Competing with forks because a solid share-alike license for web-apps wasn't available when webDip started

#10 Never having enough time to do all the things you want

Don't think I'd have done much differently though, a challenging and enjoyable project on the whole :-)

I'm good with objective decisions. I'm bad with subjective decisions, not trusting my decision. So #7 is what kept me from being much of a mod. I'm sorry I wasn't able to help out more.

i think that each mod should specialize in a certain area. one for meta gamers and another for somethin else etc..

Win : Draw ratios

My position is that it is better to risk a place in a draw for a reasonable chance at a win.

So a better win:draw ratio is more important than a your (win+draw) : (survived+eliminated) ratio...

Map didn't update.

Don't know if this is a problem with anyone else, but I'm playing in gameID=39406, and the map didn't update with the results of the 1902 build phase. When I click on the icon to get the large map, I see the disbanded and newly built units. More concerning, though, is that I can't issue orders for my new unit...not only does the map not show it, the orders don't load for it either.

Any ideas as to why this is happening? Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

how to setup a friendly game

i wanna play diplomacy here with my friends. we would like to chose countries also. is it possible ? i know i can pass protect game so only friends can join, i dunno if we can chose countries. maybe we will have to trade account passwords so everyone plays desired country

What happens if you order your troops to attack your own troop with strength enough that it would ordinarily be dislodged?
