Or is there a way to get a mod to look immediately? 2 players at least admitted they know each other and play in games as allies... thats meta gaming. And sorry to bring this up- saw nothing in FAQ bout it

Are we meta-serious about meta-gaming?
Successfully allied in Game 1 (winning); began game two (as did Ally). When I expressed a desire to consider all possible alliance options, Ally became unhappy and stabbed in Game 1 (to his eventual detriment). The question is, if we truly wanted to stop meta-gaming, would not all games be anonymous, perhaps with points displayed as a range (i.e. 550-600)? It wouldn't eliminate it, but would greatly decrease the severity? (I'm sure this isn't a new idea lol)

YOU CANNOT LEAVE GAMES
So stop asking questions about how to leave games in the forum.

Let's keep this one near the top too.
In case any of you look inside, yes, you can CD out of games, but it skews the game and is very unsportsmanlike. It also forever tarnishes your record.

An FAQ that Mods can easily edit would be a good idea, so we can put these threads there.

The current system is flawed. First of all you CAN leave games, simply fail to submit orders twice in a row without checking on the game. Making it impossible to resign immediately is not an effective mechanism to keep people committed to games. In fact, the lack of a quit game button only punishes the other people in a game where someone decides to go CD since the CD player can't be replaced until two turns have passed.

In order to effectively prevent people from leaving games, the punishment for leaving should be increased. Currently when someone leaves, they simply forfeit their points (and if they are a new player with less than 100, they don't get the free fill up back to 100 until that game is over). This is hardly any motivation to stay in the game if a player feels that his position is a lost cause and not worth fighting for. In WTA games, even a player still with a reasonably strong and influential position could be in a situation where it may be very unlikely for him to win or draw (and hence would likely lose all the points anyways), thus would not having any points incentive to stay.

I propose two things:
1) Add a leave game button, since I believe this only benefits the other players remaining in the game by giving them a chance to find a replacement without having to endure two turns of a player in CD
2) Increase the punishment for leaving a game (via either way, quit button or CD for two turns). Here are some ideas for punishments for leaving:
> Lose double points as a result of leaving
> Temporarily dock double points until the game left has finished
> Temporarily block the joining of new games until the game left has finished

@yebellz - It was suggested in the dev thread to require a deposit.

I think that there should be some sort of sidebar on the forum with the threads like this one, do not post cheating accusations, and the such. Maybe something which scrolls with you, and stays on the right side of the page?
See this link. Badly drawn, yes, it is.

@Le_Roi, bad solution imo. The reason its done as bumped threads is because that doesn't require any development.

Alright; i personally don't know php/HTML/whatever so I don't know how hard it would be to develop.

I think we waste more forum space with these threads than would otherwise be used with people asking stupid questions.
And people still make cheating accusations and advertise live games, so its not working- and what's so terrible about someone asking whether they can leave a game? They are answered, and the thread falls to the bottom.
We need a big button that says [BAIL] to immediately drop us from the game.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
13 Jun 10 UTC
Why?
You shouldn't be leaving games.

However, I agree it would be nice to add as an option, but only in conjunction with other things (forced pauses on CD for example)

Copy-paste much?
I still find it more of an eyesore to see those threads so often than these. Perhaps some sort of pre-new-thread checkup, then?
Like a pop-up that asks to make sure you're not posting about cheating/dropping out?

@figles: I completely agree that people should not be leaving games, but the reality is that people sometimes do leave games. If it wasn't an issue all of this discussion would be pointless.

The points that I am trying to make are simple:
1) People can just as easily leave games by deliberately missing two turns
2) The slightly inconvenient method of leaving a game (by missing two turns) does not deter someone from leaving a game
3) When someone does decide to leave, it is impossible to replace that player until two turns have passed with no moves submitted for that spot
yebellz (729 D(G))
14 Jun 10 UTC
Also, making everyone else wait two turns for a player to be replaced is only a punishment on the remaining players, and it makes it harder to find a replacement as the position has likely deteriorated.
