I think I am gonna boycott the World Cup this year....really not happy about what happened with Ireland. Seems the World Cup is more about money than fair play.

That said, I would really like to see one of the African nations take it. My favourite is Cote D'ivoire, but they are in a horrible group.

I think this year World Cup is one of the hardest to give some prediction. All the "big" guns aren´t in a good moment, with exception of Spain.

How about predictions for the rugby World Cup, which we all know is more important.

The African nations are going to be a huge disappointment. Firstly, despite the recent fashion for pundits to say how wonderful they are, they're still quite poor compared to the big European and South American sides. They will have no advantage with climate, and South Africa will leave after the first round giving the whole tournament a grim atmosphere. The players generally don't know each other that well and tend to play in leagues scattered across Europe, which is another big minus.

This one is going to go to a northern Europen team. England and Germany are top of my list.

It'll be a good tournament, I think. With Torres' injury, I'd put Brazil as clear favourites, but I'm hoping England do it - I'd say we're about a 20-1 shot though.

If not England, then I'd like the Dutch to win - my first WC memories involve their fantastic teams from the 70s, and they always seem to play a good attacking game. And, those dutch guys, they're crazy..

@DJEcc Oh agreed, Ronaldo has a vagina and has been told how great he is too often. But those two are perfect examples of why Americans don't like Football. In American Football, Basketball and Baseball, showing pain is seen as weakness and the flopping that occurs in Football only contributes to the "field fairy" stereotype. I love Football and am seen as a freak by most people here (in America) but really when you ignore the whining, the moaning and the flopping it is a beautiful game.

@Pete U I think the Dutch orange kits are enough to justify them winning. Torres should be back in time, though with a week to spare in fact. And Spain isn't exactly in the strongest group so we'll give him two weeks. Having said that, I want Argentina to take it because Higuain, Milito and Messi are all a lot of fun to watch.
