Spring 1901 to ?
I'm wondering what (in-game) year the longest running game ended on. Anyone have an idea or a link to some really late endings.

Turkish Virgin foils Lepanto

Hahahahah. Check this out.
Two morons calling themselves MackEye and Gobbledydook try to pull this trick on me but I see it coming and ferry to Armenia to allow the retreat from Bul so Italy won't get his 1902 build
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=13844

I spent nearly a week offering Italy a ferry to Greece, but he continues with his mysterious withdrawn posts and Austria talks his tongue into a twist. Meanwhile Russia never questions my move to Black sea after spending the whole time trying to get a Juggernaut started, and supports Austria into Bul
hahahahahahahahahahaaha

hahahahahahahahahahaahah

So stick that one in the Diplomacy archives Gobbledydook

surely con - smy would have been a little better.
also if you suspected them to move to east me rather than AEG you could have bounced italy out.

That said you are dealing with a Russia-Austria allaince eithout italian support you will be crushed.

France should read this article: http://www.diplom.org/~diparch/resources/god/ten.htm

which explains why he should not help russia take germany down.

Also that italy is kinda stupid, He can convoy either tunis/apulia; not both, in either case one unit is useless (so argueably he might aswell not have taken tunis at all; except the obvious gain of a fleet)

France is the one power not feeling the pinch due to the Austrian-Russian alliance, and he's taking full advantage, though going after england and germany almost guarentees a french loss. (balance of power - stops wins - ie you losing - always try to support the balance unless you are the one who is going to grab the win.)

...and do we all remember the unofficial rule about not commenting on games in progress?

Oh sorry, I didn't know that rule either!

Unbeleivable game, though.

@ orathaic, here's why I ferried:
The Russian was clearly about to stab, so I figured to prevent him from moving to Armenia.
Also, I was in contact with France as you said, trying to get him to move into the Med while the opportunity was there, but he claimed England was a distraction.

@ Draugnar:
I'm just so excited at preventing this happening.
I haven't played Turkey or Italy in ages, and although I've heard of the Lepanto I've never studied it so I didn't know what was actually happening.

6th sense survival instinct took over!
orathaic (1009 D(B))
19 Oct 09 UTC
@Draugnar: players are allowed to talk to whoever they want, get advice about whatever game they please. Read whatever links they come across.

I'm not invovled in this game, and have no interest in it. I'm not trying to swing it in any way, so while i will influence it, (i could do that by just having a link to Richard Sharp's book in my profile) I am not trying to damage it in any way.

If I ruin someone's clever deceit, so be it, mybe your deceit wasn't clever enough; if however i make someone think more about their game and play better then i will have better opponents in the future.

A different perspective is all i offer, and if i choose to disrespect this unwritten rule it is because I don't value it. (begin flames)

im still missing whats terribly funny from your view point. you prevented nothing. even if the "lepanto" failed (according to you), austria and italy are still gaining ground at your expense.

and yes, its not politically correct to comment on games in progress. less quality is calling the people youre playing with "morons" because it will simply incite them to finish you off that much quicker and solidifies any alliance they had.

Maybe it's just me. You look like you're getting screwed. Even if there weren't a rule about posting about ongoing games, you REALLY shouldn't advertise as a brilliant move what really looks like is going to be a colossal failure on your part.
DarioD (2326 D)
19 Oct 09 UTC
If I were in this game, I would be terribly annoyed by the fact that this is being discussed here. I think there is in fact an unwritten rule in this community about not commenting on games in progress, and there are good reasons for that.

@tru ninja:
They're going to try to do that anyway

@rlumley
the failure is not mine, it's theirs.

@DarioD
Oh, I'd be even more annoyed that I'd wasted 2 dip years failing to play dip while trying to spring a move on someone who obviously was struggling to figure out what was going on and then thay prevent it happening and then they post it in the Forum.
I hope he's really, really annoyed at being called kinda stupid too.

I really don't care about the etiquette, as you can see.
The guy wasted nearly 2 weeks of my time for this.

Besdides, I'm not so convinced now that the Lepanto is such a clever move.

But I suppose I will observe the 'rule' from now on.
I'm new here so sue me.

Once again, hahahahahahaahahahahah

It seems you've made a good, or at least acceptable, tactical move in a game you're being trounced in diplomatically.

So, kudos on your tactic, you really suck at diplomacy. And I don't think it will help your diplomacy if any of the "morons" in question read this thread...

Akroma (967 D)

yes, his positin is terrible, and his moves were pointless to the point of being suicidial almost

laughing at you guys on the forum is highly inappropriate, as he is bragging about absolutely horrible moves.

Weekend warrior, wait until the game is over to comment on it. I'll explain why:

You think you've done something amazing, yet if you are slaughtered before the end, you'll be the butt of the joke in your own thread...
Mack Eye (119 D)
19 Oct 09 UTC
I never took his 'theories' seriously. His behaviour on this thread and in the game just proves that he's a sore loser, who can't handle a fairly simple (and obvious) backstab in an adult manner.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
19 Oct 09 UTC
WW, who said Lepanto was supposed to be a "clever" move? I'd more likely say it is an aggressive move. There are upsides and downsides. It can more quickly eliminate Turkey but there are downsides to being aggressive also.

The Key Lepanto on the other hand is clever. If it wasn't being used every other game. (Maybe it is just the games I'm in.)
Akroma (967 D)
19 Oct 09 UTC
he already is the butt of his joke. look at the situatuion and tell me he is going to survive the subsequent move into aegean. heck, he might even lose con if he doesn't watch out.

after that, a disband phase, and that will be the last of him. he managed to delay his enemy one turn, and is bragging about he just won the game with the best stab ever.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
19 Oct 09 UTC
just your games i'm afraid, i've never seen key lepanto, though i do think blue water lepanto is better(though obviosly that is an austrian opening, not an italian one).

still i'm just trying a delayed rocky lepanto at the moment, i'll let you know how it goes.

The funny part is, WW seems to have tried to embarass the people destroying by starting this discussion, his behavior in the game and here convinced Me (france in that game) I would rather loose the game then attempt to save him, and even though the turns are 4 days long he hasn't logged in for about 5 or six days. He even quits when he starts loosing.

I would just like to add my voice to the chorus of disaproval for this thread. Very poor form by the OP. A breach of game ettiquette (don't talk about ongoing games), poor sportsmanship, and unnecessarily unpleasant.
I also don't get what he think he has done that is so clever. Looks like Italy and Turkey's plan is going quite well.

We need a pause
Game: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=13961

We've been trying to pause for two turns now, but one player didn't submit it before the end of the first one, and then during the second he signed in a bunch of times and still didn't vote. Our Russia is away, and can't submit orders; can a mod please pause this game? Russia has also missed the unit destruction phase as a result of this; can that please be reset?
