While the mods can't confirm it without the suspected individuals' help (volunteering to let the mods log in as them and check their chat logs), you could request an investigation. If they are innocent, then there will be nothing and they will be willing to allow it. They may even, in fact, volunteer to let the mod confirm their innocence. If they are guilty, well you know what the end result of that will be...

You're not talking about asking them in game are you? There is nothing worse than someone breaking gunboat to accuse others of breaking gunboat.

Some already did: they contacted me to ally up. I answered that it was a gunboat and that there should be no talking. Both by answering their private messages and in global chat. But as more then one player did break the silence, I fear that maybe there was already some chatting before or meanwhile.

Well, then, you need no further proof, so calling the mods in unnecesary.

You could ask a mod to log into your account to see the private messages you got.

Then with that back up, you should name and shame them in the forum, and ask your fellow players for the game to be cancelled.

Hm, I think they could also be new players (I did not know about in my first gunboat as well, but I was told therein and so I got to know). So I don't want to destroy the hole match. All the things that were said to me or by my would not inbalance the gunboat. But if there was any other private chat with more in it...

I hope this doesn't break the gunboat rules because I suspect that I am in the game in which Bonny has the concerns. The player in doubt is new (joined 7/20/09) and started off with public press and was then rebuked. The (s)he posted more messages publicly. The player also contacted me privately, but that was before the rebuke and I did not answer at all -- which probably explains why they attacked me. Anyway, I don't think there is more talking going on now, but it makes me wonder if there is a good description of Gunboat on the Web that we could post at the start of a game something like "Read it: URL".

Mods are not here to enforce variants. It is up to the players in the game to take care of that.

They may help (like logging into someone's account to check for messages) but they're not the first resource.

I had no idea what gunboat was meant to mean until after I did some reading else where... so I never joined any gunboat games.. maybe you should just make sure you have your gun boat games to expensive for us newbies to join.. and by the time we've picked up enough points to be able to join we might have some idea what the hell your talking about when you say gunboat? to me it gave some weird notion of only being able to have fleets.. which was the other reason I never joined one.. couldn't work out how it could possibly work..

My opinion is that ALL variation games should be passworded for this very reason. People often join games, not understanding it's a variant.
