I suspect that some people use multis to take over CDs just to inflate the points in the games.

Since the takeover country doesn't actually do anything, there's no obvious connection. As soon as the game is over, the identity gets the points back, becuase they're under 100.

Maybe a rule that you can't take over CDs unless your over 100 points?

i think i remember something posted by a mod a while back about having the option when creating a game to choose between allowing cd takeovers or not.

Often its because people just don't understand what it means to have 1 SC.

I think it is also sometimes accidental that people join games.

I like the "over 100" rule... or maybe 1 SC just becomes permanently unavailable to takeover? Nobody with any experience (or good intentions) is likely to want that anyway.

I think it could very well be a mistake, as TGM says.
When I first joined the site, I was browsing CD take over games, and I accidentally joined a game with only 1 SC (and completely surrounded by a soon-to-win player). I don't remember how it happened exactly.. either I expected a confirmation window before it forced me into the game.. or I meant to join another.. or something..

The other two CD take overs I tried were also hopeless, though less so.. But I suspect new players do this alot because the mechanics aren't totally obvious and you want to jump right in and learn how to play (rather than joining a soon-to-start game that may sit idle for 24hrs).

Accidental take overs are common here because the "view the game" link is so small but the "take over" button is actually a button and bigger by comparison. I still think the takeover button should not be available on the search page. You should have to be looking at the game to take over a position.

I accidentally joined a hopeless turkish CD (on facebookphpDip) and lost 200+ points. =/

I know of two players who took over once center positions by accidently clicking on it. It would be good to have a second confirmation when you go to take over a position to avoid this.
I have also been in a game in which three or maybe even 4 different people took over a one center power and NEVER sent in orders or answered any messages. so I suspect that they to were accidental clicks.

I know I've suggested that as a *possible* future improvement, but its not in the 0.9 changelog so won't be coming soon. Saying that, all CD takovers are going to be logged which will be useful in that a) you can see how much someone paid if a game in called off for some reason and b) suspect accounts can't hide by being taken over via CD.

No they don't, I spoke to kestas about it earlier today. We'll see, hopefully not too long - the todo list is shrinking!
