There are reports he's died...

he reminded me of Jesus, a truly innocent human being taking on the sins of mankind. that is why people hate him
Xapi (194 D)
26 Jun 09 UTC
The truth is that there were always people who hated him and people who loved him, although the tendency was that less people loved and more people hated over the years.

It's just that now, that he has died, it's not politically correct to say that you hated him, and the 'lovers' become the vocal minority (or mayority, whatever).
Akroma (967 D)

no, no, you got it all wrong.

he isn't dead.

all the news said that he was in the childrens ward, having a stroke
jman777 (407 D)

hahahahahahaha, Akroma. lol

and yeah it's weird how when people die everyone seems to say how great they were, even if they were horrible people while they were alive. it kind of annoys me.

NOT! Invictus, only the feeble minded would think the perve was anything special. He had 5 or 6 big songs as a solo artist and was a cute kid when he sang with his older brothers, but beyond that he was just a creep.
Xapi (194 D)
26 Jun 09 UTC
He was a real pop star. That doesn't make him likeable or a role model, just incredibly popular.

This means that a huge amount of people had an opinion about him, many of them a strong opinion.

That opinion may have been good or bad.

Right now, we will mostly hear from those who had a good opinion of him.
hellalt (24 D)

he may have abused children but was never convicted. Nevertheless one can only judge an artist by his work and not his life. He could have been a serial killer or a cyberterrorist, I don't care. You cant write off his contribution to music history.

True, but with OJ /someone/ did murder them, we don't even know if anyone was molested with MJ, and with OJ noone had anything to gain from convicting him, with MJ there was a lot of money.
Maybe I didn't follow the cases as closely, but I'm not sure how people are so sure MJ is guilty

I don't like his music though, it's just mystifying to me how people are so certain he's guilty
@Kestas - That is true but many of the children had no stock in the case and wouldn't have benefited from lying, other than their parents wanting fame of a sorts. Personally, whether he did or not I was pissed at the parents. Who sends their kid to a rich, physically mutilated, high pitched man who had a a fetish with playing with children, talking to them, and giving them "Jesus juice".
@MapleLeaf - If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it's a duck.

Or its a Moor hen with a cough. I don't think his "activities" with children were sexual. I think he was still a child in his own mind (I only have UK TV coverage to go on). It's not like he had much of a normal childhood though is it.

Thriller was ok, but I don't have it on my facebook list of fav music and I don't own an MJ album or CD. I have to say I was more upset by the death of Freddy Mercury than MJ. Both were immensely talented. All we have left of them is their music.

Unsurprisingly the mj jokes have started. The first I received was less than 12 hours after the news broke. Who comes up with these things anyway?

P.S. IMHO Meat Loaf is a better entertainer than either of them. But that's just me.

I'm pretty indifferent. I reserve judgement on his child molestation... innocent until proven guilty. He had some good singles back in his day, though his music isn't really for me. I just know that I'm going to be hearing stuff about this for the rest of the week, which is annoying when you don't care. =)
Onar (131 D)

Actually, after hearing some stuff about his carreer, I can honestly say: the man did change music history. He came about at a time when he was needed to do so. One of the first to do much of what he did. As a man, he was insignificant, but as an artist....? He was truly a king.
DrOct (219 D(B))
27 Jun 09 UTC
@Sayjo, Actually, the kids and parents had a lot to gain from the charges, ie money. And in the end, they got it from settlements.

The first kid's dad had asked MJ for $20 million to make a recording studio, shortly after MJ said now, suddenly he was being sued (in civil court, not criminal) for child molestation.

I really don't know one way or the other whether he did anything inappropriate with any children, only he and those children know the truth, but I do think there is a good chance that he didn't do anything inappropriate with them, and that he was in fact just very weird.

He was found innocent the only time it went to court, let him be.

And anyway, no matter what you say, he was one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century
iMurk,
You should try expanding your horizons some times.

And for what its worth, you may only like music that 'rocks', so how about the following guests on his studio albums:

Eddie Van Halen - Beat It
Steve Steven's (Billy Idol's guitarist) - Smooth Criminal
Slash - Black or White and Give it To Me
Santana - Whatever Happens

IM NOT A NAZI!!!!! and thats exactly what i said there loving him now no one ever talked about him. beside molester jokes
amonkeyperson (100 D)
29 Jun 09 UTC
Almost all the time, when it comes to music, I'm a metalhead. But I have to admit, I did like some of his songs.

I've said my share of jokes when he comes up but thats the kind of stuff the exaggerates people's views on him. Like figle said, he was found innocent the only time it went to court. So he shouldn't be accused of being a pedo anymore.

And you have to hand it to him, he was an awesome dancer.
SSReichs, either you're a Nazi or unbelievably stupid and ignorant.

he was a pedo who sang average to good songs he was not or ever will be a legend, he didnt create a new genre, revitolise anything he did nothing special all this hype sickens me. You want to worship real legends worship elvis, lennon, cobain people who actually did something not a kiddy fiddling baby dangling freakshow, the worlds better off without him and if there is a hell i hope hes melting in it right now
iMurk789 (100 D)
30 Jun 09 UTC
i definitely do not agree that he was one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. and i do expand my horizons, i just primarily listen to rock music. you people want legends, look at artists like led zeppelin.
Trim, how old were you in 1985?

Reasons or taking over a CD
I can understand taking over for a CD if there is a chance of survival and even understand jerk multi-accounters to to mess with the game(although don't like it). But why would someone takeover for a country with one or less sc and then CD? Is there a rationale for this or is this just a multiaccounter that cannot be identified yet?

PC vs Mac?
I bet Diplomacy players on average are more likely to be PC users than average. I don't know why this is, it's just a sheer guess. Which do you use?

I'm a PC myself.

GFDT 2008 - Round 2 - Game 1‏ needs a replacement
Germany with 7 centers, very strong position against france.
Any interested players, please contact thewonderllama.

also, I would welcome it if a mod pauses this. a CD with 7 centers in the middle of the action is just too disruptive

I have sick pleasures.
Today I went to my local CD store to special order a CD, and a hipster girl took the order for "Bax String Quartets nos. 1 and 2 by the Maggini Quartet. It's on the Naxos record label."

She just cried HELP.

Hello everyone
I'm totally new to Diplomacy; I've never played a single game before, but it looks interesting. (My main interest in board games tend to be of the abstract strategy kind: go, amazons, hex, havannah, twixt, etc.) Two questions:
