My prediction is that the Eagles will win, but ultimately fall short due to the Bucaneers barely managing to squeek by the Raiders.

Well, I was born in Connecticut, grew up in South Florida, moved to Ohio for college, and currently live in Pennsylvannia.

I'm married and have two cats.

I work in the Environmental field.

Where in PA and where in CT? I lived outside of Hartford and now live ouside of Philly in NJ.

We're missing the point here. ValHelmethead should allow me to survive the game.

I was born in Hartford, actually, but I'm out by Pittsburgh now.

What do you do in the environmental field?

COOL Helmut. I lived in Simsbury for 5 years and the wife lived in Hartford growing up.

When was Sicarius censured? I must have missed that. Honestly I think the best option is to just ignore Diplomats threads. That's what I plan to do in the future...

What exactly does "Environmental equipment" do? That's what I'm most curious about.

You can find this game "Hyperinflation" under Active Games. It's on page 12 of 12, a 35 pointer or so. It's worth a look. This ValHelmethead is a new personal hero of mine.

@ Diplomat: Still have heard nothing from my allies. Nothing personal, but...

@ Pandarsenic: A variety of things. Mostly what we deal with is water quality equipment. Pumps to get water out of the ground, various probes to test the pH, conductivity, turbidity, ect. of the water. We've also got units that detect chemical vapors in the air, as well as the level of explosive gases. We've even got some noise dosimeters which measure exposure to sound over time.

I make sure those pieces of equipment are repaired, calibrated, and in good enough condition to use.

I'm the guy keeping (some) of that stuff running within spec. And I also help train some of the folks that are supposed to know how to use it, but don't know that you can't test for dissolved oxygen by pouring stuff into a cup.

Not even a magical cup?

Well, since magic defies the laws of physics, I suppose a magic cup might give you an accurate reading. Or it might turn the solution you're testing into solid gold. Magic and science unfortunately don't mix well for some reason.

What exactly about a mundane cup would lead someone to believe they can use it to test for dissolved oxygen?

Well, dissolved oxygen is exactly what it sounds like. The amount of oxygen (by volume) dissolved in a sample of solution. Now, most units that test DO have what's known as a Flow-through Cell, which is a container connected via tubes to a pump - which pumps the solution out of your testing area into the container. Even better if you can just drop the DO probe directly into the testing area. The idea is to minimize the solutions disruption and exposure to air (which, the more exposure you get, the closer the solution will get to 100% saturation).

If you pull the solution out of the testing area with a bucket, and dump the bucket into a cup to test, the act of dumping will increase the saturation to about as close to 100% as you can get, as you're rapidly mixing a volume of air with a volume of liquid.

Meanwhile, Joe Field Technician thinks "I pulled this sample out of the ground the way my boss told me to. I should be able to sample it in the cup for every single parameter I need."

And then he thinks "That's odd, DO is way higher than it should be!"

And then he thinks "Val must have given me a bad water quality meter!"
