I think someone controls about 5 accounts
in the game "Bourbon Dynasty" Austria, Turkey, Germany, France, and (possibly*) Italy have been sort of inactive. this could be just a bunch of idiots.
BUT...
All of them have their orders finalized. And all of the orders are HOLD orders. someone is probably having them hold until he takes their supply centers. the person controlling them all is probably England (more likely) or Italy.

* I said Italy was a possibility. why? he issued a move order the first turn, F NAP - ION. but he didn't do anything the first turn. I said England was more likely because they (or he) let him convoy into Belgium.

btw i'm Russia.

DJINEGYPT is no longer playing, take over his CIV DISORDERS
Sorry to all those playing with me, due to an across the world move and no internet at my new home, as well as other difficulties, I can no longer play. If there is a way for Kestas (who i presume runs everything) to automatically put me in CIV DISORDER, so people can take over right away, I'd appreciate it. Good luck.

Another game for mature adults of all ages
The game, Cyrus in Transoxania, is for those who can play without cursing out those who back-stab them, pre-formed alliances, meta-gaming, a compulsion for going into civil disorder, whining, and other ridiculous behavioral stunts

IRC Channel?
Does everyone here think it would be a good idea if there were a phpDiplomacy IRC chanel? Or is there one already?

I think this would be great to be able to jump on, chat to fellow players, discuss strategy, form alliances etc. I know we have the fourum here, but I think that an IRC channel could be good.

Let me know what you all think.

2 Units swapping Places?
Is it possible to swap the territories that 2 adjacent units hold, or would this be processed as your 2 units attacking each other?

For example - if I had an Army in Naples, and a Fleet in Rome, would I be able to move my Army to Rome and my Fleet to Naples, or would they remain where they are as they would actively defend themselves against what appears to be an attack?

Thanks :)

Could someone have an interpretation what happened?
In the game (id 1113), http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1113&orders=on#orders

I moved my fleet from Denmark to Sweden, at the same tine Russian fleet was in GOB. Now at the end of spring turn Russian fleet is occupying Sweden and I'm in Denmark, although the Gamemaster notes that:

Spring 1902, Diplomacy: Your fleet at Denmark attempted to move into Sweden but there was a stalemate.

It should be important for me to know if Russians had support from English (in which case it's definately not a stalemate) or it's some kind of error??

Convoy disruption
I found that when I cut convoys it [the game master] would give me the message "Your fleet in [territory A] cut [territory A's] convoy order." Which should be "Your fleet in [territory A] cut [territory B's] convoy order." anyone else with this problem?

History of all moves
Is there anyway that I can see the history of all the moves in the game, and not just for my country but for all the players. Also, can I see it in shorthand notation, not that ridiculously annoying wordy explanation ("Your army at Venice successfully supported the army at Tyrolia move to Trieste".)
Chrispminis (916 D)
25 May 07 UTC
The short answer is no. Not right now.

Currently, moves made by other players must be deduced and determined from the outcome of the board. As well, not everyone on this site understands shorthand notation, and may find it confusing.

Of course, in the grand scheme of things, order and turn history for all players, as well as the option to choose between shorthand and full sentence are certainly possible, and would be welcome. The problem being is that, current adjudicator problems are far more pressing than this, more superfluous, issue. As well, keep in mind, this is a voluntary project, currently developed by only two people that I know of. Be patient, and since this is open source, feel free to help develop if you have the skills and time.

Until then, memorize. =D

If you use the map history feature you can see what has been going on, but at the moment you can only see the results of orders placed, not individual orders themselves. In future releases there won't be any text output, it'll all be drawn on the map
Mencellator (100 D)
26 May 07 UTC
You serious? No text?! That's worse than what we have at the moment. I mean, shorthand is a Universal standard, but the map is hard to read as there are loads of symbols and words squashed up together, and it sure doesn't help being colour-blind.
In my opinion, what we have at the moment is at least better than what kestasjk says it will become.
jimshlif (441 D)
26 May 07 UTC
Wow, way to be a snarky asshole about a service kestas is offering you without charging you a penny. I guess color-blindness can make a fellow cranky. When you get pissy like this, do you see green?
Mencellator (100 D)
26 May 07 UTC
Speak for yourself jikshlif I'm just offering suggestions and if it sounded angry (which it clearly didn't) then that isn't what I meant. What am I supposed to do, lie and say that with no text it would be better? How about you give some useful input to kestas instead of being a moaning old woman. Sorry about this rude person everyone.

In fact I did "give some useful input to kestas" (see below under "Feature request: record NMR's"). I also did it politely, respectfully, and in such a way as to demonstrate that I appreciated the work he's already put into the project and appreciate that his time is valuable. Grow up, pal.
LucusVonLucus (1551 D)

"and if it sounded angry (which it clearly didn't)"
IF it "clearly didn't" people wouldn't be calling you a 'snarky a-hole'.
I would like to suggest that if there is a way to keep a text based rundown of what happened on a turn it would be really nice. But as this is free I'm not griping either way.
Mencellator (100 D)
26 May 07 UTC
jiksplif I'm not your 'pal'. Plus, Lucus agrees with me that I wasn't rude, unfortunately you were just misled by a single exclamation mark I used. But I forgive you, people make mistakes. Now that this is settled we should all just drop this petty squabbling and concentrate on the topic.
EricHerboso (836 D)
26 May 07 UTC
If you're looking for text-based diplomacy, there are plenty of alternatives, such as dipbounced.com. But phpdiplomacy is aiming at ease of use, and having visual representations will do a lot toward that end.

Still, it may not be too much work to have an option so you can see text-based in addition, on the side. But I'd say that would be a very low priority.
isbian (106 D)
26 May 07 UTC
EricHerboso's idea might be a good one. We can put all the Gamemaster stuff on the side and therefore it will be more convenient for all the players.
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))

Mencellator: Would it really be worse? There would be arrows signifying support moves, support holds, retreats, convoys. They could be color coded, dashed, thicker or thinner, etc, I think it would be quite clear.
isbian (106 D)
26 May 07 UTC
Being able to see everyone's moves would unbalance the game. This way, you will be able to tell what someone's plans are, whether or not they have not made their moves or if all of their moves ended in standoffs. Plus, writing everything in shorthand would probably just slow players down. It takes a second or so to puzzle out the name of the country when everything is written in shorthand.
Mencellator (100 D)
26 May 07 UTC
isbian, if you check the rules of the game actually you are meant to know what every single persons moves are, especially the ones which result in standoff. When playing the board game everyone's orders are read out to everyone else simultaneously. I suppose that is another inconvenience with the map, you can't see everyone's moves, only results of their moves which is a major problem because then you can't see everyone's plans but I am sure that will be fixed.
And kestas I think the map is a good idea, but without the shorthand as well it means you have to spend a long time looking at the map and trying to write down all the moves yourself. And like I said, most of the important moves aren't actually shown on the map.
Locke (1846 D)
26 May 07 UTC
I don't think that tactically speaking it would make much difference whether or not people could see your moves, at the moment if they want to know badly enough it is not terribly difficult to find out or work out somebodys moves.

Strategically it might make some difference to peoples play but again factoring in everyone knowing your attempted moves would just become part of the game.
Mencellator (100 D)
27 May 07 UTC
I'm surprised you think that it wouldn't make any difference tactically, because it does make all the difference knowing whether an enemy attempted to attack you or held or blocked certain areas with standoffs. Also, it is useful to know about support, people could be allied, performing supports and you would not know about it.

More Than One Convoy Route
In official rules you are allowed to supply more than one convoy to a destination, so if one is attacked but the other is not the convoy will still succeed.

I'm curious: how will phpDiplomacy implement that rule?

A Request for Kestas
I joined the game Towers of Ilium <http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=782> by accident (I clicked "Take over for a civil disorder country" when I only wanted to view the game). I have no intention of playing in that game. I don't believe I've made moves for a while now, but I still haven't been put in Civil Disorder (perhaps because I am active in other games?). Anyway, can you manually put me into Civil Disorder? I believe I am just slowing down the other players ...

Taking Over Civil Disorder...
Is there a way to choose what country you take over when there are several countries in a game in Civil Disorder?

Is a way to pick a country when you're joining a game? Is it determined by order joined? If so, in what order are countries assigned?

Less move time...
I think there should be less time for retreats and unit placements. It doesn't take 24hrs to decide where to place your pieces, and it holds up the game.

An Idea: Clan Wars
My friends and I have started a phpDiplomacy clan/league named "Donkeys United". If we can find two other clans, we can try a clan war-type game, with two people from each of three clans and one neutral seventh player in one game.

The gameplay would be slightly different: there would be less diplomacy, because (almost) all players are in a team at the start, but that doesn't mean that there is no diplomacy at all, of course.

For those of you worried about players in a game playing in a team, at least in a clan war game you already know who's in a team ^_^.

Just an idea, of course!

Civil Disorder Disbanding
I think I've raised this before, I asked how the code determines which units to disband if no orders are entered, the consensus seemed to be it was either the units who had moved furthest from their home supply centres or the earliest units created (which would tend to be the same units).

I'm playing a game where England is in Civil Disorder and has just lost his home territories, the only supply centre he has is St Petes. He had a fleet in Norwegian Sea and a fleet in St Petes, and I was hoping and expecting the fleet in St Petes, being furthest away, to disband so I could move in and take it with just 1 unit.

Didn't happen. So I just wanted to double check again, and wondered if anyone else has encountered circumstances where it would be useful to know in advance which units were more likely to disband...

Games Won (by country)
Austria:
12 (10.1%, 6th place)
England:
15 (12.7%, 5th place)
France:
18 (15.3%, 3rd place)
Germany:
23 (19.4% , 2nd place)
Italy:
8
Russia:
17 (14.4%, 4th place)
Turkey:
25 (21.1%, 1st place)

this lists how many games each country has won on phpDiplomacy. i made a chart and put a tally mark in each category for each win, then counted them. (yes, i know it's inaccurate, but it can't be completely wrong)

i just thought some people might want to know this.

Note: not all of the finished games in phpDiplomacy are listed on the "games finished" page. this adds up to 118.
