liberal media brings Richard Spencer the attention he seeks
thus they are promoting white supremacy. Therefore the liberal media supports the white supremacist movement. So it is the liberal media that are the true white supremacists. notice how it is the liberals here that are also 'white' and are pushing the movement.

Compulsory National Service in the United States
One of my favorite Lincoln-Douglas debate resolutions was on compulsory national service, and I thought the sight could use an actual discussion.

Where does the rest of the world stand on compulsory national service in the United States?

Developing webdip just got a lot easier
For those who want to work on webdip, I've just created a docker harness that makes working on the code easier, as it sets up the dev environment for you:

More Lies and Stuff
Recently there was a comment made that said I defended Neo Nazis.

My accuser is in fact a Neo Nazi. I mean... I have no proof of that, but apparently it's fine to call people Neo Nazis without any evidence now.

Destroy Units Bug
In Charta Runde, and other games this is just the most recent example, occasionally when I submit orders to destroy units and the orders resolve it destroys the wrong ones. I could not find a different way to contact mods so I will be posting this here. (My country is France if this is relevant)

Hello, I have a problem
Hello, I have a problem. I am currently participating in a couple of games, one no-talk and anonymous. My problem is that on the 22nd to the 27th (or 28th), I might have no ability whatsoever to play. I obviously can't tell that to the other players. Is there a solution to this that doesn't require me sliding into a CD?

Maltese Car Bombing
The victim was a journalist who had been doing a lot of work exposing corruption around the world (Panama Papers), and within the government of Malta. I think it shouldn’t be hard to figure out how or why this happened or whodunnit.

Advertise Chaos Games Here
There's a great feature on this site that lets you play the 34 player chaos variant, where every supply centre on the classic map is an independent great power. What you do is use the site like you normally would, but log in to vdiplomacy.com instead of webdiplomacy.net. It's a weird bug having to log in twice, but I'm sure they're working on fixing it.

31,500 points - the Biggest Gunboat Game of All Time
If you're not spectating this, you should. It's picking up stram.

I have been watching this one for a few days. Pretty amazing the level of skill involved. In Spring 1908 all the countries were more or less intact.

A fair warning, while this thread is probably okay as is (not an official mod team opinion), any commentary on the play would stem into breaking site rules as it is a press limited game.

And yes, I absolutely just added this to my spectate list, good recommendation.

I've been following it, too. Would love to be able to hear the conversations behind the scenes.

Other than that, can't comment with the game in progress.

Lol, you can't have conversations in gunboats, that is why I posted my warning. If it was a game without press restrictions it would be perfectly fine (though considered bad manners) to post about it on the forum.

jmo and other moderators, in my opinion this game is the equivalent of a grandmaster's chess game - it is the best against the best (at least point wise). It's the one rare time us regular people can watch 4,500 per player/31,500 total point level play.

I would love (in just this one case), for us average Joe's to chat about it in the Forum, while it's going on. Its a learning moment for us amateurs as taught ny ghe grandmasters. That sort of thing actually happens in grandmaster chess tournaments and sometimes the break midgame for the night. The pros could review the days comments, but that's like having your kids guess at your taxes. (Sounds almost logical, right)

A condition for this would that only people below, say 500 points, could comment. Those would be us that are 100% sure are NOT in the game.

Anybody above 501 (like you, ghug, or CAPT Brad) who comments would cause the thread to be immediately locked. This would also be an interesting psychology test -- to see if the pros can stand back silently while we hackers do analysis and throw popcorn at each other.

I leave the fate of this idea it up the moderators, and frankly the prolific CAPT Brad.... for how long could he hold off without comment?

I'm going to chime in really quick here and say no to any comment regarding this gunboat game. Unless it was agreed before hand, there should not be any discussion of ongoing gunboat games (regardless of the number of points). Any comments may interfere with gunboat games and that should not ever happen, particularly with a game of this caliber. As such, please do not make any comments regarding the content of the game.

Thank you for understanding.

My advice if you want to comment and learn from the game would be to take notes on interesting moments and moves in a word processing file somewhere (Notepad, MS Word, etc) and hold them until the postgame. That way you aren't wasting the teachable moments and you aren't compromising the game. I know it's not the same as getting to ask in real time, but it's the best solution that doesn't affect the game.
I will refrain from commenting about the aforementioned game, but will say that this one: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=206204 is of interest as well.

While we don't allow anyone commenting on active gunboat games, we will be pestering the players to post end of game analyses once the game is completed. EoGs offer their internal decision making process and explain their choices throughout the game. If you watch the game now, you'll be able to participate in that discussion at the end, but not until then.

Fair enough, thanks all.

And ghug, nice point. Well done. That is such a Diplomacy move..... :-)

EoGs in both games would be great! Probably better than driving through my dribble about the daring deeds of the Diplomacy dynamos.
