Facebook Dilemma
I recently started using Facebook just to reach people I can't contact any other way.
It just occurred to me that it makes sense to friend pretty much every suggested person, even random people who added me for unknown reasons, from a PR point of view. I don't know what that does to my privacy if I do start to use it though..
Thoughts?

Why Does Morality Matter?
Pretty much what the title says. We often consider the "right thing to do" when making a decision, but why do moral arguments matter? Is it due to societal structures, personal interest, definitive moral good? I'm curious about everyone's thoughts on this.

Why can't I select nowhere to retreat, or disband a unit when I want?
The rules say I can elect to disband instead of retreating, but there seems no way to sav his choice in the GUI. So when I am faced with disbanding as a result of having nowhere to retreat to, I seem to have no choice but to let the clock run down, which slows down the whole game for me and all the other players.

I know that I can come across as a jerk, or a disruptive nuisance. I don't intend to upset anybody. I have quite bad anxiety and I find online interaction much more difficult than face-to-face conversations. Unfortunately it's also the case that some people notice this, and find it a fun game to play on my anxiety and try to provoke me at every turn. The angrier I get, the more those people like it - and everyone else has to suffer a tiresome spectacle that gets in the way of their fun.

Amongst my RL friends, I'm genuinely thought of, I think, as a pretty nice guy. But on here, I come across badly and I get on some people's nerves.

I don't actually want to be anyone's enemy, and I apologise if I come across badly or upset anybody. I will try harder to remain calm and not allow people to wind me up.

Sorry.

"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life"

-- Possibly said by Churchill, but who knows these days?

You are indeed a jerk and source of great irritation, and you're somewhat hypocritical as you yourself post a great many of the most deliberately provoking threads on this forum. But God knows it would be a more tedious place without you around. There aren't many outstanding members of the community left.

I don't bother so much with the forum now, but still play. However, I do remember that you and I have had our run-ins in the past. I guess nearly all of us are deliberately provocative from time to time too - is that what they call being a troll? Anyway I have never had the impression that you were a nasty person. Moreover, I am sure that your core beliefs are sincerely held and rooted in a compassionate approach.

I like you - big man hug!

If people on the internet don't hate you, you're doing it wrong, but if people on a Diplomacy website don't hate you, you might as well just give up, really.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
04 May 16 UTC
I can honestly say I don't know what you're talking about, Jamie, but this seems to be the kind of self-reflection that can't hurt.

You're probably being a little too harsh on yourself, but only because you keep yourself to higher standards than others which is a good thing, especially if you don't do it to be 'superior' but just because that's who you are.

Keep improving and if you fail, don't worry because you were fine before you started improving already.

Jamiet,

I don't find that any of your description of you being irritable is anywhere close to the mark. I appreciate your voice, actually, since you tend to stand for the right things.

Second, text communication sucks and tends to piss people off, so don't take other people's reactions in internet forums that seriously. Angry people will get pissed off, because they only have words on a screen to react to so they fill in with their own emotions. Just how it is.

@Jamiet99uk? Are you kidding us? You must be. Noone can have a goal/need to be loved by everyone on an Internet forum, can you? If it is really so, my advice to you is to log out and get out there IRL and get some real friends. This place is highly artificial!

Peterlund, I wouldn't say that was my goal, no. I made this thread as an apology, and perhaps an explanation, not in the hope or expectation that it would encourage anyone to like me. It saddens me a little that some people here seem to dislike me, or indeed in some cases derive pleasure from making me sad or angry, but I don't expect that this thread will change the minds of every one of those people. Such is life.

There was? My sincere apologies.

You, of course, fall into the category of the ancient ones, along with the likes of Thucy, D who must not be named, Ghostie, Maniac, Figlesquidge, Jamie et al.
