Penny stocks
Penny stocks have recently caught my eye and was wondering if there are anyone here who have had any experiences with them. From what I can tell they have the tendency to be quite risky but also can be quite rewarding if one knows what they are doing.

This is how you legitimately make the big bucks, but you have to do the extra market research, or else you lose. go for it, be careful

I recommend watching The Wolf of Wall Street; and then using Mr. Belfort as your role model.

Sure. As long as you go to jail with me when I get caught.
Please do not listen to JamesYanik on financial advice. ssorenn at least has some credibility, and his response here shows you just how good of an idea he thinks it is.

Everything I've read about penny stocks leads me to believe it's a complete crap shoot. Most, if not all, people who say they're successful at it are snake oil salesmen who are just trying to dump their worthless stocks on others. Go to a casino. Same ROI, much more fun.

@happyplayer,
If you want some intelligent stuff to look at, there is some here:
https://www.bogleheads.org/
Of the Bogleheads "Lazy Portfolios", this talks about one of creators:
https://yalealumnimagazine.com/articles/2398/david-swensen-s-guide-to-sleeping-soundly
And yes, there is a lot of rubbish in the thinly-traded markets. Focus on making money slowly. Focus OF return of your money first, return ON your money second.

I would agree that there are a lot of cheapskate oil salesman in this line of business. However, there are some penny stocks that just do well simply because the company has done somthing to make it so. It is why I said that one must know what they are doing. A fellow must be good enough to tell which ones are pump and dump schemes and which are genuinely getting ready to explode. I know a guy that nearly bought into a penny stock who's shares were about .50 now it is trading at close to $100. If one had been good enough to see it coming then one could of had substantial rewards. This is done through analyzation of the stock, its back ground, who the CEO is etc.

I think you should keep believing that. And if you do, I really have something to sell you :))

I think you are on a wild goose chase. There are so many brilliant people out there with more resources than you have, I'm afraid that for every success you have, there will be a number of costly disappointments and you will get nowhere. Remember also, that people only talk about their successes.
You might want to read the David Swensen interview in the Yale alumni magazine I gave you the link to above. It is interesting.

There are some penny stocks that can make money. But it requires a lot of due diligence. If you do not understand the company, or get unsolicited emails, avoid it.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

Stay away from penny stocks. They are a cesspool of lies and misinformation.

There are plenty of value stocks out there which can give you reasonable returns. After you have the hang of that, then maybe carve out a little bit of your portfolio for ultra-high risk pink sheets.

You say that, but you never had the chance to invest in Royal Mail. That was essentially a $1000 gift from the government designed to encourage people to get excited about investing in the stock market.

Also, there was a period around 15 years ago when building societies converted into banks and gave everyone who had an account with them a few hundred quid, which when you're twelve is the most awesome thing ever.
happyplayer (130 D)
09 Oct 15 UTC
@Jeff Kuta I disagree with your first statement. Sure there is some poor penny stocks to choose from but there are also some good ones. I somewhat agree with your second statement. I certainly intend to start out with paper trading first. If that fails me then I know penny stocks aren't for me.

@Valis I never said it would be easy. In fact I think its quite the opposite. Sure I could throw in 3k into a stock with no work and watch it disappear. But as BaldOldGuy said it takes diligence.

@Octavious I don't think I quite get your point....... If you even have one lol.

Stephenie Meyer rewrote Twilight with a twist!
She rewrote the books with every character being gender swapped.
Now you can re-enjoy the classic in a new perspective with old female vampires and werewolves and a young teenage guy. What a brilliant idea and good use of your time! Meyers truly does keep on giving gifts to humankind.

Dealing with emotions following a good stab
Whenever someone stabs me in the game, I have a lot of negative emotions about it, to the point that I would choke this person, if I had the chance.

How do you deal with such emotions? How do you deal with stabs?

First Tournament (Tempest in a Teapot)
So the Tempest in a Teapot tournament is happening this weekend. I believe that Valis and TheCaptain will be there, will anyone else be joining us? This will be my first Diplomacy Tournament (and first real F2F experience) so I am excited and horrified at the same time. Any tips for me are appreciated.

I look forward to meeting all who attend!

Bugs in live games - countdown don't show real time
Hey guys

Lately I've experienced a bug, and I wonder if I'm the only one. When in a live game, everytime it's another phase, the time have already gone almost a minute, and sometimes, the timer can say I have 15-20 seconds left to do a move, but the game have already moved on to the next phase. Am I the only one experiencing this?
