To take another approach, if the threat is minimal, perhaps it is best judgement to decline so that the individual can come to grips and take it head on, thus allowing her to grow as a person.

I think if she is at fault or offering her protection will place others in danger besides yourself than yes you can deny her. for example if a woman ran up to my house and my siblings were inside and she looked in danger and a man with a machete was 200 meters away. I'd take out my phone and call the police but otherwise she needs to find someone elses house... im not going to let her in knowing that doing so would make my home the target of the machete guy and my siblings are inside with me...

Any time it's permissable to decline to protect another person, irrespective of gender, it's permissable to decline to protect a woman. Gender has no relevance over whether you should protect someone.

What I mean by security is physical security, of the sort that the police generally provide for people outside of the United States.

you should always offer protection to a woman (or someone in need). Esp. if you can. If you cannot it follows logically that any protection offered is no protection at all and hence you cannot offer it (this should cover this siblings case above).

The gaping hole in your question is protect this woman from whom or what. Your question fails to actually make any point because it's poorly worded and vague. Is your emphasis that a woman may enjoy significantly more leeway "protection" than a man? Are you trying to make a point about self-interest versus the good of others? Are you interested in the dynamics of protecting people from the consequences of their own choices?

Any of those, and several others could be the point, and everything in this thread fails to narrow the issue into anything really worth discussing. You also seem to be acting under the assumption that all women NEED or even WANT some sort of special protection.

Personally, I wouldn't protect a stranger if it were actively in the fight. If they are running away and being chased, I'd probably trip the aggressor and run myself :D

If they are in a situation where they are able to run but choose to fight, no. Anyone who tries to defend their self instead of running better be damn well able to because its unnecessary if you can run.
