I don't agree with the moral message of Ender's game, but I do really enjoy the book. I also love Speaker for the Dead, though I think it goes downhill after that (and the less said about the shadow series the better).

Dearest Krellin, Kanzelor Hitler was abused as a child. Is that the reason why he was the way he was? Ironically you call me an apologist while that is *exactly* what Ender's Game is going for, finding justifications for mass killing whereever he can find them. The genocidaires are children, the genocidaires don't know what they are doing, the protoganist is abused as a child, moral conduct is biologically pre-determined, the genocidaire has 'compassion' for his victims, the victims accept their fate as natural/inevitable. Everything leads to one conclusion - genocide is moral. Ender's Game is the ultimate apologia for mass murder.

And all that is a side point from the fact that there is internal conflict within Ender or anybody else. As I said, the characters are self-evidently good or self-evidently bad, regardless of behavior. There is no discussion of motivation. There is no moral ambiguity.

Dick and Chuck Palahunik in that they have interesting ideas, and some good lines, but I'm not too much of a fan of the product as a whole--but yeah...he is NOT the Stephenie Meyer of sci-fi because Stephenie Meyer's an incompetent hack who has no concept of plot, character development, writing anything besides vapid, shallow, or disgustingly-stupid caricatures...

And OSC is just...eh.

4. Granted, you have it in for all fiction writing--and all fun, for that matter, but we'll leave that out of it for the moment--but what do you have against sci-fi writing? Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, H.G. Wells (socialist, you should like him), Robert Heinlein (not at all a fan of his right-wing apologias, and I think in some ways he's the Stephen King of sci-fi, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think he had one or two decent books.)

I'm referring specifically to Ender's Game, and what I mean is there is no explanation for why all of these children are so gifted and there is a large random naked fight between Ender & Bonzo, in which the latter strips to fight Ender.
