Trying to start up a very slow classic game...
I'm thinking the full 10 day phases with somewhere in the neighborhood of a 200-250 point buy-in. Anon or non-anon, WTA or PPSC are both up for negotiation as far as I'm concerned. Are there 6 others out there that would be interested in a game like this? I think I am going to require that no one in this game have any CDs on their record with such long phases, though.

Here is how I would do it.

I'd go to the roulette table and exchange £40 into £0.50 chips (checks in the US). I'd play for a bit, probably just betting £0.50 on one number. After a while I'd leave the table and take my chips with me. I need a good reason to leave, like being called to the poker tables or something.

My group of friends would then wait for a croupier change and exchange a few hundred pounds for £5 chips. The one that was given my colour chips would stay for a while whilst the others would move on when convenient. The player with my colour chips keeps my seat warm and I re-join the table as he leaves.

My £0.50 are now worth £5 each. I'd play for a bit and then cash in.

The reason I know this works is that it happened to me by accident last week.(I didn't know the guy would played during my absense). I have never played roulette before and took my chips with me when my poker tournament called. When I returned to the table in the poker break and cashed in I was given the wrong amount. Obviously I spoke to the pit-bull and they corrected the error.

I strongly advise people not to cheat at their casinos, but if they do please send me 10% of your winnings : ) Bitcoins are fine by me. You're welcome.

This sounds like it would never work in the US. Or in Vegas at least

That's just a stupid little mistake...

I probably wouldn't have said it, it's about time the house loses :)
Maniac (189 D(B))
02 Dec 13 UTC
It clearly shouldn't work. The croupier should make sure no one leaves with chips and change the posted value of the chips in play for each player. But I was paid out the wrong amount, so clearly those things don't always happen as they should.

Perhaps someone should do this in stages, walk away with chips and see if they are challanged?

In any major casino I've ever been to in the US, when you get colored up on the roulette table, that color is unique to you, the guy running the table marks what the chips are worth (25c/$1/$5/whatever), and those colored chips cannot leave the table. You must cash in all colored chips in order to take your money off the table. This cheat can only work in poorly run casinos that don't manage this correctly.

Maniac said:
"I strongly advise people not to cheat at their casinos,"

Then he said:
"Perhaps someone should do this"

And that's not even really taken out of context in the wrong way.

What I do for roulette is I put 10% of my stack on black. If I win, then I do it again. If I lose, then I put 30% of my (original) stack on black. If I win then I'm still up and go back to 10%. If I lose again, then I put my remaining 60% on black. If I win, then I'm still up and go back to 10%. If I lose and have no stack left, then I reload my GTA San Andreas game.

In any casino I've been in the US, the chips have their denominations clearly marked even if they share a color. For example, a $1 chip and a $1000 chip might both be X color, but the $1 chip is clearly labeled "$1" and the $1000 chip is clearly labeled "$1000".
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))

Roulette is a little different. You can play with regular casino chips, but roulette tables have special roulette-only, nondenominational chips that can be designated to be a certain value for each session of roulette or by each individual player. They aren't labeled with a face value.

Top tips for winning at a casino.

1. Put a tenner into the roulette machine (one of those ones with a video feed to the tables that are always full of Chinese people with too much money).

2. Study intently the past form of the roulette table, looking for patterns (7 black in a row, for example).

Take advantage of complimentary free drinks and sandwiches...

Withdraw your tenner.

Never fails. If you do it often enough they give you free steak meals and the like. I miss being a student gambler :)

Yes you have, steephie. Everything you do in life is a gamble. Casino gambling in many ways is far less of a gamble because the stake is generally a relatively small amount of money and therefore not all that important.

In my experience, casinos are second only to strip clubs as depressing places to spend your time. Now, I've only been to riverboats and Indian casinos, so the floor in Vegas or a good part of Atlantic City may well be different. Doubtful, though.
Octavious (2802 D)

There's nothing depressing about a free pint and a sarnie. Besides, these places are as fun as the people you go in with.

Why would you expect me to know what a sarnie is?
Invictus (240 D)
02 Dec 13 UTC
At any rate, I stand by the claim casinos are depressing. Watching obviously poor people piss away hundreds of dollars isn't a pleasant sight no matter how good your company is. Neither is watching obvious drug dealers put a grand in cash all over the roulette board, or watching an obese old lady sit at the same penny slot the whole night.

Again, I've only been to riverboats and Indian casinos. Not exactly Monte Carlo.

US Casinos all have the cash value printed on the chips for cash tables and dealers croupiers make you color up to leave.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Is that color thing true of Vegas roulette? I only play card and dice games so I don't know.
Draugnar (0 DX)

And I wish they had poker room only places around here, but they casinos make their money on slots and poker is mostly for the draw of the players wives to the slots.
Octavious (2802 D)
03 Dec 13 UTC
@ Invictus

I really have no strong expectations of how you would react when confronted with a sarnie, but I guess it would be something along the lines of either knowing what it was due to being a man of the world, making a guess at what it is, googling sarnie on the magical interweb, or asking one of the many here who are in the know. You did the latter. Well done.

UK casinos are somewhat different. Slot machines exist, but without the same zombie tradition you get in Australia or the US. As far as people without much money go, they don't often go to casinos (myself being something of an exception, drawn in as I was by the demands of the stomach). The working class and unemployed gamblers are far more likely to be found in bookies, which really are depressing places.

And it's not a way to make money, it's just to see how I could introduce a new digital currency, perhaps as an alternative to bitcoin, how would I do it? And I'm not talking about how I'd build the website, or how I could advertise it: I'm interested in the principle of a digital currency that is simply launched.

What to visit in Asia
I'm going to study in Hong Kong (the place down there where they don't eat people) for a while so I could use some pointers in what to visit in nearby Asian locations by veritable globetrotters of webDip. Please understand that I'm on a student budget that will be severely strained by gambling orgies in Macao and Thai shemale hookers and blow coined by the vodka refreshment on my trans-siberian railway road back to Europe so be considerate of the possible price tags.

As it has been a frequent item of forum discussion around here - the fact that we have large group of high school kids playing -- is there a way we can find out which players are associated outside the game (i.e. who logs in from the same IP?) to prevent players from getting in games with the high school gamers?
