getting back in to Combat Mission
haven't played for a long time since I'm on a Mac and the classic CM games don't work anymore. I'm excited to see Battlefront has come out with new WWII CM. But they're a bit pricy. Not sure if I should get Normandy or Fortress Italy? Anyone play these games?

Gunboat High Stakes Tournament
Entry 250@, Gunboat 36-hour 125@/per game
10-game rounds, 5 simultaneously
josunice (3702 D(S))
14 Aug 13 UTC
Rules...

Entry: 250@ - pot split 60%/30%/10%

Format: WTA Anon Gunboat 36-hour 125@/per game

Rounds: 10 games per round; 5 simultaneous games, with second set of 5 simultaneous games begun once 3 games are finished. Random country assignments. For 28 players, there will be 3 rounds of 10 games each.

Scoring: 13 D for a win, 12/n points for a draw. From each paired flights in a bracket of 14 players, top 3 from each flight advance +1 from the bracket based on overall points.

Available Points Requirement: 875@ at beginning of tourney and 625@ each additional round. If a player does not have enough points to continue, a two week grace period will be given to make the points required available. After which, if unable to cover the game fees, the players' spot is vacated and the entry fee is forfeited. TD will replace the player at an entry of 50% of pot/remaining players if mid round or 100% of pot/remaining players for a new round (plus each game entry). TD will give preference to filling spots with the next few in line from the tournament participants if reachable within a couple of days, and TD reserves the right to lower the entry fee if a replacement is not available within 5 days of a general posting.

NMR/CD: any NMR will result in immediate pause and the TD may remove and replace the player from the tourney as described above. A CD will cause a pause and replacement of the power by the TD as described above.

Pause and cancel votes: Pause and cancel votes are prohibited. Pauses are to be requested direct to the mod email and will always be honored. If the pause is required for more than 10 days by a player combined during a round, a sitter is required and will be determined by the TD. Use of these votes in games will result in one warning and player removal for a second offense.

TD Powers: TD will not have any in game powers. TD will only manage the seating of tournament participants endeavoring to have generally even groups of 7 by Ghost Ratings, and will manage the sitter/replacement process.

I apologize for not being as high of a rank as you guys. I know I am low rank, but I just went up 58 spots as of this last month here. The high jump means I am not accurately ranked with where my skill level is. I joined the site in late March and did not play too many gunboat games until the start of the summer here.

I also want to play the tournament because I want to get better at gunboat games. And anyone who is familiar with some video games knows that if you want to get better at FIFA for example, you do not play the Rookie Level into the ground, you play Professional and eventually Legendary to become good. In other words, you need to lose a few before you become good.

Granted; the buy in is taken down or;
It starts when i finnished 2 games where i should win and i got points to cower buy in.
And ofcourse if im high enough.
Then im in to!
If i read right list ( on phone, google docs not friendly) place 52.

/sun
@shadow2 you joined the site in March and you have played 85 games and have 1000 D. Despite that you haven't played ONE single proper gunboat (you remind of someone with this) although you can join one allmost every day if you take a look on "new games".
So I think it isn't the best idea to start "getting better at gb games" from this tournament,I wouldn't be happy to have another "strong gunboater" who makes a theory about how great moves are Venice - Tyrolia(or Trieste) and Smyrna - Armenia in spring '01.Sorry,I don't know if you would be like that because you haven't played gunboats on the site till now.
I just like this would be a tournament where I wont see Vie - Tyr,Bud - Tri and Tri - Adr as an opening...
@SunRa you have 2 proper gunboats finished out of 27 games, that's why you have a nice ranking (52).
SunRa (1049 D)
15 Aug 13 UTC
With proper you mean, games with no cds and no lpl-yor, edi-yor,lon-yor openings or?
Even tho i cant se the bad in smy-arm, armenian watch used to be the option if you wanted à juggernaut, but that was way back and f2f,
No,by proper I mean playing with a good competition. You earned the most GR points with this gameID=119487 in my opinion.
Smy - Arm in spring '01 is bad in gunboats,in any circumstance, there is no debate about it.
SunRa (1049 D)
15 Aug 13 UTC
Ah yea got ya. We could debate the smy armee but i guess thats an other thread in that case
Wrong,sorry,that one finished in july.
You earned the most with this one - gameID=118197,
despite the fact you had opened to Armenia.
Because all the good players were on the west side and you earned theirs' points because of theirs' rankings.Ironic, isn't it?
No,I couldn't debate smy armee ever, sorry. If you are sure you are talking about gunboats exclusively.

In deference to some PMs on August travel and the early Sept holidays, let's start the countdown to round 1 for Sept. 15th. That should net us a few more guys I will follow up with that can't start without pauses until after the holidays. 14 is ok, but also if we get to only 21, I have worked out so we can still play three rounds of 10 games a round. I'll update the list tomorrow. Looking forward to this!
