Players needed
We need players for an anonymous players, pw-protected game. It's a sequel of sorts to a game that had good players but a couple of missed moves and a civil disorder that threw the balance off.

Respond here or, for extra anonymity, message me for info.

Diplomacy Simulators?
Does anyone know if there is a program that allows you to mess around with a Diplomacy board; trying out different openings, studying possible strategies, allowing for analysis of previous games, and so on? Regrettably, I don't own the board game to do this the old-fashioned way.

WIN!!!!! I couldn't let Russia win that Because he just wouldn't draw because a CD *Happened* in his favor... That was very hard.

Near the end, I made a HUGE mistake in the north allowing Russia to get London... But I recovered :)

Ha, beat me to it. Yes, I had to stick it out to make sure that didn't happen! Petty, me? Why yes!
hopsyturvy (521 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
London - I don't think that was such a mistake, you had to leave an SC open somewhere. I think you could have sent more fleets north a bit earlier though, Italy and I weren't going to be chasing you at that point.
achillies27 (100 D)

I had my draw up for a while... but then I just thought "Russia doesn't DESERVE a draw" and i took it down.
achillies27 (100 D)

I dont mean the turn rusisa got into London, i mean when he got into the north sea... I guessed wrong.

No, especially after all the support I didn't get, fending off that endlessly insistent Lepanto!

Sorry for not drawing. I waited two hours for that game, committed my evening to it, then Austria leaves inexplicably. I figured me and France would just race. Apologies to the guys who didn't survive.
jcbryan97 (134 D)

On the first year there was a mistake where only my fleet got built, but my army didnt. That really upset me, because it was set to move to ruhr so that BUR could have taken BEL from France.

Then England took Den from me on a silly stab. WHat was eng thinking? not an ally in sight for him after that.

I was glad to see Russia denied. I felt the same about the CD and thought it was in good sportmanship that you offered to draw Achillies.

Good game all. Congrats Achillies, well done.
achillies27 (100 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
@hopsyturvy, Yeah, good job with that, btw.
@ Rasko, if you can't get a game going for a while, that still isnt an excuse for playing through a CD like that.
hopsyturvy (521 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
There was no way you were going to pull a win out of that. It's a shame, it would have been interesting trying to *force* france into a draw, even if you didn't want to give up after austria CD'd
achillies27 (100 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
@ jcbryan, thanks, and I actually withdrew my draw vote after a while, to ensure that Russia got no points.

Yes, some noob play from england, but it was entertaining at least! Well, it was for me. Not so much for Germany...

I'm new here, so I'm not familiar with the etiquette. Seems strange that I'd get vilified for continuing a game that I had committed to, while there's no mention of the guy who left, effectively ruining it for everyone. Seems to happen a lot on this site. Hardly worth playing if every game someone quits, and consequently everyone is badgered into drawing.
jcbryan97 (134 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
I noticed Achillies. Although it is tough to view you as a complete martyr since you solo'd. :)

I felt that england wanted to purposely get defeated once they were in a bad spot. That irked me. I don't mind the stab or noobish moves, but I do mind unsportmanlike things like that (if it was as it appeared)
achillies27 (100 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
Rasko, you kept on playing because someone left in your favor, you would be mad if i won and Italy/Germany CD'ed... Also, we don't have to talk about the person who CD'ed, we already know he is annoying and we shouldn't play with him, as he just CD'ed, and if we talked to the guy who CD's ( in most cases) he isnt online most of the time, or he wont answer.
jcbryan97 (134 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
Don't sweat it Rasko. You're not being villified. We're just complaining about you :P

I think a CD is so universally hated that it goes without mentioning. Exploiting those CDs is something else though. Some, like myself, feel that the game up to that point was fun, fair and challenging---but that after the CD it becomes unfair, unfun and quite a different challenge than the original game. I'd rather just start a new game then continue with a CD.
achillies27 (100 D)
21 Jul 12 UTC
Yeah jcbryan... England played bad. But as for me winning, I am very proud of being able to beat the guy who got the advantage of a CD...

Also, if you're relatively new ....then welcome! If you've experienced several CDs already, then sorry :( Try playing password protected games with people you know or playing in the tournaments.

I rarely play in pick-up games now a days, but today was one of those rare instances.

Apologies guys, I jumped in a game to make up the 7 and felt alright at the time but I was drifting in and out of sleep between moves, in the end I couldn't see the board to type the orders in, I haven't checked to see how long I lasted or how I was doing but I felt it was going Ok until that point.
I think every CD I've had has been either leaving meta-gamers to get on with it or falling asleep (I'm on GMT/BST here) and I know how infuriating it is so once again my apologies.

OK guys just checked and I lasted 7 years and had 7 units whilst France had 11, if I was a betting man I would have put money on France to win from that point as Austria I would not had enough fleets to take a hold in the Med so even though Russia made a game of it France still won, doesn't excuse the CD but probably didn't change the final result, it could have been both me and Russia fighting which may have made the game a slightly shorter but France was in control and was dominating his neighbours and had done England.... I feel a bit better about the situation now but I know some people will still hate me forever :-(

21 Jul 12 UTC
It happens. Rasko, I know it's frustrating, and there is no'rule'for dealing with it, so you have to use your own judgement. Live games are always a particular risk I'm afraid. But play higher stakes, longer games and you'll find CDs are rare.

You had signaled to Cancel the game rather early on. Perhaps we should have all votes with you and granted it.

Muslim man and former MMA fighter uses cage fighting to rehabilitate convicted and released terrorists in order to help them integrate to society. They say it works, and I can believe it. Get punched and kicked in the head enough times and your perspective will change too.

I just watched Star Trek XI on Blu-ray and it was awesome! I would definitely recommend it! Anyone else a fan of blu-ray films? What else do people think are great films to watch in HD? I watched The Matrix a few months ago as my first blu-ray purchase and that was pretty great too, so much depth.
