Azawad

Just curious if anyone here has any thought on the situation in northern Mali/Azawad. It seems extremely unlikely to me that 2,000 ECOWAS troops are going to be able to fight the Tuaregs unless the MNLA splits, and I haven't really heard anything indicating that that's going to happen. At the same time, all of this seems to be happening kind of quickly. Are they prepared to set up a government?

Have you ever made a horrible decision and not realized it until after you've done it?

Well I have. In fact, there are only two things in this life that I've done that were incredibly stupid. The first is not putting oil in my vehicle until the engine blew when I was a kid. The second was un-muting Krellin. Not sure why this guy hasn't been banned yet but, like the damage to my motor, ability to not hate idiots will never be fixed again.

When: April 21-22, 2012

Where: College of Dupage's Student Resource Center, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.

What: A three-round Sum of Squares Diplomacy tournament. Best two rounds count for score. It only takes one round to be eligible for awards. Rounds will feature a central clock and drop-dead timing.

How much: The entry fee is $15; $10 for students. Paid-up Weasels get a $5 discount. The CODCon convention charges an additional $5 for a one-day pass and $7 for two days.

Awards: Players will compete for plaques for first through third place, certificates for fourth through seventh, and Best Country plaques.

Schedule:

Saturday, April 21

Round 1

Registration: 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Board Call: 9:45 a.m.

Round 2

Registration: 5:15 to 5:45 p.m.

Board Call: 6 p.m.

Sunday, April 22

Round 3

Registration: 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Board Call: 9:45 a.m.

Tournament ends at a predetermined time between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. with brief awards ceremony following conclusion.

I'm organizing it. I'll be there, as will at least four other players who are, or have been, active on this site. We'd love to have you join us, YJ.

It's typically a small tournament -- just two or three boards per round. But it's a fun, low-stress introduction to tournament Diplomacy.

If you're not from the area and would like crash space with one of the locals, send me a PM.

We host two tournaments per year: the CODCon Open in April and Weasel Moot in summer or fall. Each tournament turns six this year, and Weasel Moot will host Dip Con and World Dip Con this August (Aug. 10-12). CODCon takes place at the small CODCon gaming convention at the College of Dupage. Weasel Moot is a standalone event that's been in the city every year but 2010, when we held it in Burr Ridge.

CelticFox, we are hosting bar games at Guthrie's Tavern in Wrigleyville on April 4. Games start at 630 pm and we will play till no later than 11. We are currently trying to fill a third board.

Correct on registration. You can save a dollar or two by preregistering for the con itself. You can find the link for that at our site, www.windycityweasels.org/codcon6.

For our purposes, you pay on site. You can just show up unannounced, too, but if you let me know when you firm up your plans, it will help with planning. Ensuring multiples of seven takes some work; it helps to know in advance on which rounds to focus recruiting efforts.

I have played with the Windy City Weasels since their second year. JimTheGrey is a great guy. Although F2F Diplomacy is the most intense way to play and tournament is even more intense. BUT it is a BLAST! I can't attend because of another commitment. I will be at Weasel Moot!

Wind City Weasels is a great club that has league scoring that award top player and best countries. Every year top seven plays play a championship game called "Weasel Royal". Plus they have other events and many F2F games every month. If you live near Chicago it is worth your while to check them out. I travel from over an hour to play.
