This conversation is considered resolved.
"[name], I'm sorry you don't understand, but given our past interactions, I suspect you don't actually care and are just looking to waste my time. This conversation is considered resolved."

Can someone explain why I keep seeing this in basically every thread (not to me, mind; just in general)? Did someone keep saying it and now it's sort of an ironic in-joke? I don't understand!

Well????
This is a question I love to put to armchair scientists on Internet forums. It puts an end to their ignorant bullshit before it even gets a chance to start.

Video Game Music
Since there seem to be a bunch of video gamers on here I was curious if anyone else had a favorite theme from a video game.

I personally love the opening theme from Final Fantasy 4 (2 in the states).

Teaching Gravity in School
Gravity is not proven and is called the theory of gravity, not the law of gravity. Since its only a theory it shouldn't be taught in school as there is insufficient evidence to prove that things fall towards the ground when dropped.

What if the power of a god were proportional to the number of followers he has?
Assume the god/gods of each religion have divine power proportional to the number of followers. Assume also that gods can carry out divine intervention.
What would happen to the world? Please only consider religions that have a considerable following in the modern day.

I haven't played in a while but I'm pretty sure that was a standard feature (And if it isn't, why not?).

Walking Dead redeemed?
Just watched the season finale and it almost makes watching the rest of the show worth it. I won't give you any spoilers but, if you're watching it because you're a fan of the comic and keep waiting for it to get good, watch the finale.

Horrified
OK, I've finally found something on the internet so insanely terrible and godaweful that I am absolutely horrified and disgusted by it. This simply should not exist - and I consider it proof that there is indeed no God. I don't know what else to say. Not for the faint of heart!

Help: Google Spreadsheets for Gunboat Series
Seeing as the 5 Gunboat Challenge idea has become so popular I thought I would put a bit more work in to making it special so I created a public spreadsheet, with a full roster, useful information, and full reference of game information, including participants and game links.

Invasion of privacy or not?
Interesting article on prospective employers forcing interviewees to show them facebook profiles etc. Do you guys feel this is an invasion of privacy or something legitimate for corporations to be doing now?

That is really great feedbacks, CB, but could you take the survey so that we have one specific place where we can keep track of people's opinions? :)

Either you are in the wrong thread or you think you yourself are a GR subscore.
I would go with the former.

Because the latest ghost rating list is as of March 1st and you don't have any games that ended before March 1st. You will be in next month's rankings.

I had the 'flu & an asthma attack earlier this week, and currently sit in that awkward place between being too ill to do anything and being well enough to do anything useful. So hello!

fwiw, I'd not take survey results terribly seriously myself. This comes down to two things:
1. I'm a statistics nerd, and I'm going to have as many as I have the energy for, provided:
2. They are meaningful. We could run GR on gunboat games only, but who is to say that it will be a better predictor (in general) of a result in a gunboat game than regular GR, where we have more data (albeit less good). Whether or not it is better is measurable.

That said, if everyone is very keen on an optimised list for <x> then we can try to produce that in a systematic way
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
22 Mar 12 UTC
@Ghost,
If someone was really interested, they can do an ANOVA analysis to see what correlates with what. I am too lazy to do that and it requires me to use SPSS and such. The key thing would be whether or not overall GR highly correlates with each of the individual subscore.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
22 Mar 12 UTC
Though it would make for a fun statistics project, calculate GR and the individual subscores for each person and then run regression analysis on them to see what correlates and what, if any, would most accurately predict performance in each category.

Here is summary of the data thus far:
WTA full press non-live classic: 7 out of 17 votes
WTA GB (all variants): 6/17
GB (all variants): 8
PPSC: 4
Live: 7
Two honorable "other" voted WTA GB classic

It looks like if we do WTA full press non-live classic, WTA GB classic, GB, PPSC, and Live, we would capture most of what people want. Whether or not we need two separate categories for GB is debatable.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
22 Mar 12 UTC
So I have done a partial regression analysis of 16 people using their peak, current GR, WTA full press (all variants), WTA GB (all variants), and GB (all variants) using SAS and Proc Corr. Here is the document link:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MWZOrbIBQZBXmVulFRUdHpr6_ZgZMS2se4I2WVifc5k/edit

So, for the Pearson correlation, the higher the top number, the stronger one value correlates with the other. This is why Peak and Peak has an R value of 1. Peak and current GR has an R value of .738 or 73.8%, which makes sense.
From what little data I have, it looks like the best predictor for your overall GR is how well you do in WTA full press. Gunboat games have only a 3% correlation to overall GR, which means that the overall GR does not at all reflect someone's gunboat ability. GB and WTA GB, however, correlate at 99.3%, which essentially means knowing someone's score in either GB or WTA GB allows you to accurately predict the other. So when we calculate the GR subscore, we would not need to do both GB and WTA GB.

I am not sure if anyone cares about this. If you do, please let me know either here or through private PMs.
