You're wrong. You have no right to withdraw from the game. If you want to cancel the game, enter a cancel vote and persuade the others to do likewise.

Really strikes me like this community only works if you have good and reliable players pre-screened given games being unmoderated.

Chill out guys. Come on, you don't have to be such an asshole to him. But yes charles, you can't really get out of a game once you're in, unless you persuade others to vote cancel. Offering to vote draw sometimes works out better for you in cases of chronic NMR's. But NMR'ing yourself is frowned upon and if you do put a game in the forum, the more resigned games you have, the less likely quality players will join you.

Honestly, if you look at that game, it's pretty fubar'd. Now, for someone like me who's on here all the time, it makes no difference if I just keep entering orders. But, I realize not everyone has a problem like I do, so I say if there's a game like that and half the people have left, just say "fuck it." You will get a resign on your record, which is a shame.

With that being said, don't expect much sympathy from us that you joined a bad game. A lot of us spent time giving you advice on how to join good games and then you went and did pretty much the opposite.

I either want to play a proper game or have no part of it. Is that so very unreasonable? As you say yourself, that game is a mess. And not one of my doing.

I hadn't anticipated things to be THIS bad when it came to game quality. And I joined up after people said that the level of play is fine here. Other more cautionary advice only was posted when I was already signed up for what looked to me like a normal game.

Yes, this is a free site, and unmoderated. It means that there is some level of imperfection. Use the tips provided to reduce that.

If you NMR, then you'll get a bad record of resigns...and therefore the players you WANT to join...will not be able to distinguish between you and a putz...and won't let you join.

One solution is to start your own game, password it, and send out IM's and threads to attract players...and screen them yourself.

Until this is a PAY site, appreciate it for what it is...and work around it. Including the folks who can't seem to have a civil discussion without calling names :)

I was agreeing with you that you should leave the game, but your record will be slightly tarnished.

Why not just start a new game, and put most of your focus on that? Then you will hopefully have a new quality game going, while not leaving the one you are currently in and getting a "bad" resign on your record?

I agree. Make a passworded WTA game for 24-48 hours and advertise in the forum and I think you'll get a lot of interest. A number of people have already said they'd play with you in the other thread.

I'm perfectly chilled out. I just don't appreciate people repeatedly insulting me.

As for the trainwreck game, I'm disappointed not all players in it are ready to cancel it when it's so clearly messed up. But in light of anything other than continuing to submit orders would tarnish my record, I guess I'll have to do so. It's pretty ridiculous, but ah well...

I have to say, looking at your game. The fact that Russia, Turkey, England and Germany all missed either one or two turns in the first year is extremely unlucky. It's not usually like that, even in normal games.

Agreed, it is relatively uncommon for *two* players to miss turns.
Also, does Italy know he can move more than one unit per turn?

Well, the Italian player is the only one next to the Turkish player who bothered to communicate with me.

He's a nice chap, though new to the game and probably only read the brief intro rules on this site. At least that's my guess due to him having at first no idea of what I meant by "A Rome-Apulia". He then caught on to what that meant though.

I truly don't mind playing with newbies. What I do mind however are first-season NMRs and gunboating in a non-gunboat game. In my view, such factors no longer make a game worth playing. Hardly too much to ask?

Look, I get what you're trying to say about the game being ruined... but don't you think it a little hypocritical of you to want to drop out of the game using the same means?

For all we know, maybe all of them are thinking along similar lines to you.

Nope, not hypocritical at all. A game is a social contract in my view. All players commit to play properly.

If they do not, they've cancelled the social contract. And then I see myself under no obligation to waste my time with it.

It's simple common-sense behaviour. It's just that this site's software rigidly upholds voided social contracts nobody in real life would stick with.
