When French tourists come here (say, to the Grand Canyon) or even just live here (as quite a few do in Austin, Texas), I do not treat them with anything but respect, just as I treat everyone else. I do not have disdain for any nationality. To think that I, as an American with this outlook, could go somewhere else and be treated with disdain makes me sense a bit of injustice.

Should I truly be lumped with my ignorant countrymen? Can you really justify that?

I am learning French because I believe one should be able to speak the native language of a country if you visit for longer than a few days.

Don't make me regret the last 5 years of my life in French classes.
