The Presidents: From Best To Worst, First to Last... RANK!
-Top 4 as your "Mount Rushmore"
-Bottom 4 as your "Mount Runover"
-Rank ONLY on their time in office/personality (ie, generals don't get those as a bonus)

Wow, no offense Parallelopiped, but you have some weird choices for Rushmore, considering their respective ideologies, success and failures, and the fact that their the most recent presidents. Your runover is also made up of our founding fathers and first four presidents. Do you know anything about who they were?

My Rushmore:
Washington, TR, FDR, Truman
My Runover:
Grant, Quincy Adams, Buchanan, Bush jr.

TMW - anytime anyone refers to Obama as Hussein Obama all it does is make them look like an idiot and a bigot.
KaptinKool (408 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
@dexter morgan, that's a little extreme, his name is Barack Hussein Obama, as long as you call everybody else by their full name it doesn't really matter. But I will say that to have him in the bottom 4 already is a stretch. It is almost impossible for him to be worse than :

- Warren G. Harding (R)
- Ulysses S. Greant (R)
- James Buchanan (D)
- Andrew Johnson (D) - In my opinion the worst

To say that any modern president is worse than any of these is ridiculous. The best (IMO) are:

1. Abraham Lincoln
2. George H.W. Bush (for almost saving America fiscally... stupid Perot)
3. Thomas Jefferson
4. Richard Nixon (for his revolutionary trade policies)
KaptinKool (408 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
Well, Nixon is half on the good list, and half on the bad list... but he did start an American economic renaissance.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC

The Master Warrior... Sol Reagan and Eisenhower good, FDR and Kennedy bad... Obama already on your worst list...

Gee- do you hate Democrats? ;)

Moving on to ACTUIAL lists...

KaptinKool...

well, our Runover's are virtually the same... you really think Grant's worse than Hoover, though? Grant was no great President, corruption all around... but at least there was no Great Depression...

Your Rushmore's weird... Lincoln and Jefferson I can see, but H.W. Bush and Nixon? Both did good things, but you'd take them over Washington, the Roosevelts, Kennedy, Reagan, even Madison or Jackson?

And placing the only President to ever resign under duress of corruption on Rushmore?
KaptinKool (408 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
@obiwanobiwan
Grant v. Hoover... definitely a tossup.

George H.W. Bush was the only President in a long time to realize what the U.S. needed to stay afloat, complete fiscal reform. Clinton did okay then Jr. kind of ruined it and Obama isn't helping.

However if we had H.W. today the U.S. would be in a way better fiscal situation.

As for Nixon, the U.S. wouldn't be in nearly the same economic situation if it wasn't for him; for me it was a tossup between Reagan or Nixon and Reagan was great on NAFTA, but Regonomics is just the worst spending policy ever.

Washington/Madison... meh. Jefferson was great Kennedy wasn't and Jackson was the worst President ever.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
I think you're still overrating H.W. vastly... a decent president, but he inherited a pretty decent situation...

To rank him over Washington (on the REAL Rushmore and so beloved and so great a leader he's the only one to elected unanimously... Father of the Country...) Madison, Jefferson (another Rushmore) Kennedy (short but memorable presidency... and getting Russia to blink first during the Cuban Missile Crisis and his getting the Civil Rights ball moving for Presidents that LBJ sort of inherited and got the credit for... pretty great in my book) and JACKSON-

Worst EVER???

HOW to you figure THAT? (Unless you're going with the Native American Removal Argument, which, while valid, would have to apply to a LOT more presidents than he, a few generations of presidents, in fact... so to make Jackson carry ALL the weight there...)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
And though both are the two worst...

I'd place Buchanon as just barely worse than A. Johnson simply because he's the only President to see the country literally BREAK on his watch...

A. Johnson NEARLY broke it again, but...

Well, when your job is to protect the nation and keep it in once piece, and you shatter it and lose half the states... that's a pretty tough act to follow for Worst Ever ;)
George W. Bush was a mediocre president. Just like Hoover, he became a scapegoat. At least he did nothing instead of worsening our problems. Unlike Obama. Oh, and Hussein is his middle name. It's just as fair to say G. Walker Bush.
@ obi

Yes, I do. And I am proud to say so.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
Well, how elnightened you must be, The Master Warrior, to just blanketly and openly hate any and all Democrats...

So, you hate:

Jefferson... Jackson... TR was pretty progressive and environmental, would've been a liberal today... Wilson... FDR, elected 4 times and usually conisered to rank with Lincoln as perhaps the greatest ever... Kennedy, who had ups and downs but got the Soviets to blink over a nuclear war and averted that... Clinton, the only recent president to make headway against our defecits...

Yes, I can see why you hate Democrats across the board.

Don't get me wrong- I'M a Democrat, but there are LOADS of great Republicans... Lincoln, TR WAS a Republican in his time, to be fair, Eisenhower, Nixon was a brilliant worker for foreign policy (as they say, only he COULD go to China) and even though I'm liberal I'll say that Reagan and H.W. DID have their strong points and DID do great things for the nation...

I've always said, since we can't have more faces on Rushmore (it'd be awkard to change it, it's a work of art, and anyway they say there's not enough stable granite and more faces could ruin the others there) there should be a huge stone statue, double faced, in the middle of the country, perhaps the other Dakota... and Reagan and FDR should be there together, the builders of 20th Century America, both standing tall, Reagan looking westward to his California and FDR looking out to his beloved New York and eastward...

But I can see why you'd just love to dismiss all Democrats as terrible leaders... so true...

So I take it you're going to not hold all men are created equal, then (Jefferson, if not stolen from Locke) or go anywhere in the Lousiana Purchase (Jefferson) or show any love or respect for the environment (Jackson and TR) go to any national parks (TR) be happy that we have the United Nations (an idea originating with Wilson's dream for the League of Nations that failed due to lack of support in our Congress) collect social security (FDR) work for any New Deal-isnipred/created job (FDR) ever look at Rushmore (pushed as a work opportunity and finished during FDR's term) be happy we won WWII (FDR working with the immaculate Churchill) be happy we averted a nuclear Holocaust (Kennedy in the Cuban Missile Crisis) support Civil Rights (from gays now to blacks then, generally a Democratic dream) or have any hopes for an overhaul of the nation's failing economy or hopes for better healthcare (that DEVIL Obama, who's not doing too great but MIGHT be doing better if the GOP would work with him and make constructive suggestions instead of spit on anything he tries)

Have fun!

@TMW: "Oh, and Hussein is his middle name. It's just as fair to say G. Walker Bush." Ah, but it wouldn't have the loaded meaning... the obvious loaded meaning when we are in a war in the middle east to use the middle name because it happens to be the same name as the hated former dictator of Iraq (never mind, for the moment, that Hussein is a very popular and common name in that part of the world - the intent is obvious)... Same darn "reason" that some teabaggers refer to him as "Osama"... the underlying meaning is clear: terrorist and foreigner. It is bigoted. ...unless you're going to claim that you innocently refer to all presidents by their middle name (not true)... or that everyone calls him that (also not true).

You'd really tke Monroe or Madison over Washington or Lincoln?

Who the hell actually thinks Obama and Bush (the lesser) are good presidents? That's like saying Stonewall Jackson was a bad commander.
Sinon (133 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
I think it's quite early to judge Obama. So far on foreign policy he's been excellent (for the circumstances), and he can't finish any domestic policy because of the deadlocked congress.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
13 Feb 10 UTC
I think that calling Obama bad after just 1 year out of 4 is very pre-mautre...

Since he's already outlived W.H. Harrison and Garfield, he beats them... ;)
He hasn't had any states secede... beats Buchanan... and as he inherited this mess, better than Hoover and Bush...

He's moving up! lol (No one shoot, he's still got 30 presidents to beat before we can call him even good!) ;)

But let's all hope he gets there... that IS why we elect a president, right? In hopes he'll do a good job... no one elects someone hoping, "Gee, I HOPE this guy sucks!"

So he's the President... and though I didn't agree with him, for 8 years I hoped Bush would do a good job. Now I get to hope someone I WOULD have voted for (turned 18 jsut a month after the election!) will do a good job...
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
13 Feb 10 UTC
In a year he has accomplished less of his agenda than any other president in the history of the United States. Sounds pretty fucking bad to me.
Well, in terms of weakening America and paving the way for China to pass us as the world's greatest superpower, he's done quite marvelously.

I'm not racist, I just refer to him as B. Hussein Obama to remind people that he's just as evil as Saddam.

There was a poll done lately by Research 2000 that was sad and funny at the same time. The Hussein conversation above reminded me of it. It said that between 20 and 35 percent of the republican party think things like:
Obama wants the terrorists to win
Obama wasn't born in the US
Iceray0 (266 D(B))

Nixon was also a genius with foregin relations... and he was also a bastard as a person who crossed even used-to-lying America's lie-threshold...

And I think so many people are determiend to hate Obama no matter what, because they are misinformed and think he's socialist (u-oh, here comes the mountains of "proof" Obama "is!") or they hate blacks or they don't like the Muslim name or think he is rooting for the terrorists or are birthers...

Generally, if you watch FOX News, you hate Obama guaranteed...

meh..i think it's very hard to be well-informed on 200 years of Presidents. I could go off of little scandals and rumors and famous events for them, but I don't think I'd be making a well-informed decision. I don't think I could make a well-informed decision ranking Presidents beyond the last six or so, possibly a little further, but certainly not deep into the 19th century.
jimgov (219 D(B))
13 Feb 10 UTC
Yeah, but on the other hand, you can't really rank a president without a little historical distance. While W. wasn't my favorite president, and is "ranked" usually as one of the worst, I think everyone deserves a little time to put the entire presidency in perspective. Maybe a decade or two. Maybe more. If you remember, Reagan looked like a god during his first term. But, as time has moved on, a little shine has come off his presidency.
