Looks promising, yes, let's see how it goes from here though - have a bad feeling it will descend into a cheesy drama focusing on the emotional side of the human-alien relations - which might not be that bad, but I'm just really looking forward to a well-scripted action/sci-fi thriller.

i saw the original V as a tween, hazy memeory but from what i recall it didnt evolve into any dramatic intensity, good acting and slick production either!

just watched the original mini series last night with my god-daughter (she's 15), she actually liked it a lot and her normal response to things older than her is like Thucy's... ;)

the original V miniseries freaked me out as a kid, and i still count it was one of the greatest shows of all time.

the new one is interesting, i love morena baccarin from her firefly days, but it is hard to not compare the two. especially that in the new one they call the visitors "Vs" when in the original the V was a symbol of the resistance, not a term for the visitors. and of course i love the original's emphasis on resistance to fascism and support for all resistance fighters past, present and future which i think will be lacking in the new version. still, i am looking forward to following the new one, and see how it goes.

I watched some of the original V episodes last week cause Sci-FI was playing them over and over pretty much all day long.

I basically plan on watching it to see how they make a Totalitarian State look like on a tv show. I really hope they don't drop the whole "resistance fighters" idea, cause that would kind of ruin it. If they don't make the Totalitarian State look harsh enough then I'll probably drop it.

How about The Prisoner? I think that it's another one of the 80's shows that they are re-incarnating. AMC is doing it. I am excited beyond ALL measure for it because there will finally be a show on tv that can be thoroughly explored in the realm of philosophy and, to an extent, psychology.

The new V is alright. If I were going to sit down and watch it every week, I probably wouldn't, but that's not how I watch television. I just keep a show playing on my laptop while I'm working on my desktop. Both computers are routed through the same speakers/headphones. It's pretty sweet.

As such, the opportunity cost of watching V is only one star trek episode (I'm currently trying to watch the entire Star Trek Franchise, in order, starting with TOS) so I'll keep watching it.

Ultimately, is it a great show? No, not yet, at least. Am I going to keep watching? Sure... Why not?

The Prisoner on AMC is just a mini-series though, not a regular season after season series. They had a 15 minute show on it a few weeks agi and it looks great. Very true to the original series complete with the big bouncing ball, but some things eem different. Like I suspect there won't be any "escape" to the city and the goal of Number One may be different as there was nothing about the whole spy angle in the special.

Oh, The Prisoner is something to wait for! I'm still bitter I missed the final episode a lifetime ago! :)

lol I don't hate things that are older than me you're talking to one of the biggest fans of classical music ever.

With TV though... there is a point where if you go too far back it sort of becomes boring trash in large part... in the 70s or 60s somewhere. Nothing great comes to mind. Brady Bunch? ......yeah... Howdy Doody? ...bleh. Lone Ranger? I mean.. yeah. Lol. Oh and that one show about an kung fu master in the Old West... good idea, with one huge problem. The lead, who was supposed to be Chinese, is clearly white! Not only is that racist... it makes it hard to appreciate the concept. Tack on a lot of not-so-exciting action... and yeah. Even the Original Star Trek isn't very exciting.

I don't know, that's all very prejudiced of me but I've never been the biggest fan of TV anyway lol.

Then you need to watch the original Doctor Who, Mission: Impossible, The Saint, The Avengers, and The Prisoner. You just have been watching the popular crap, not the intelligent shows.
