One view replies per 60 seconds, please wait and try again.
When using the 'replies' link in my profile, I get the above message if I try to view my replies, then go to a forum thread, then try to view my replies again within 60 seconds. Why does the system impose a limit on how frequently I can view 'replies'? Not a big deal, it just seems odd.

How much Metagaming?
I'm wondering how much metagaming you all consider to be cheating.

I know that multi-game deals and alliances are generally considered cheating.
What about predispositions toward other players? If I have experience with a player who stabs often and foolishly, I'm less likely to form an alliance with him. On the other hand, If I've successfully worked well with another player in one game, I'm naturally predisposed to work with him in another because I know him to be trustworthy.
This, however, begins to tend toward entering the game in a predetermined alliance. I'm wondering where you think the line should be drawn.

I've studied a lot of negotiation theory, and this is phenomenon that can't be avoided. The more often you deal with someone, the more likely you are to develop a relationship with them, be it positive or negative. You also discover their style of playing the game, like you would if you were a group of 7 friends that play the game every month, it's hard to avoid.

I think it becomes a problem when you consistently join games with people you have played before and the same alliances or belligerent relationships keep on happening.

If you're worried about it, stab your new buddy, keeps things interesting :)

Using DoS attacks to prevent a user from entering their orders is considered bad form.

Phoning them up at night and telling them you're had an emergency with your internet and aren't able to change them back, so you know it will look like a stab but really you don't want to make those moves is acceptable.

I'd say orathaic got it right. Playing dirty is a part of Diplomacy; however, you should play as that countries leader - not necessarily as yourself, at least to a certain degree.

That said, there's nothing wrong with bringing previous knowledge of players, but it's really about intent. The players intent should be to play that game well and should really not include aspirations outside the immediate game.

I guess the only thing you can do to describe what's kosher and what's not is talk about general ideas and specific instances - I don't think it's possible to have an all-inclusive rule or set of rules that really covers everything, since the key is - to a great degree at least - intent.

You are definitely allowed to learn strategic lessons from one game and put them into practice in another. You are definitely not allowed to take someone's grandmother hostage and threaten to torture her unless they support you into Munich. Between these two lines it's all a grey area - acceptability is also affected by ingenuity:

rule clarification
What happens if a ship convoying a land unit is attacked by another fleet? Is the convoy "broken" - can you support a convoy with other fleets to stop this from happening? Also, if unit A attacks unit B and unit B attacks unit A do they merely bounce or swap places?

Question about Cutting Support
If a unit that: 1) supports an attacking unit and 2) is itself supported is attacked, is the support to the attacking unit cut? I cannot think of a better way to word this so I will give an example involving France, with A Pic, A Bur, and A Mar, and Germany, with A Mun. If A Bur S A Pic-Bel and
A Mar S A Bur H, and A Mun-Bur, is the support into Belgium cut? I think that it is, but the rules do not get that specific, so I am not sure.

Wow I need to pick it up.
I've been away for a while, then I recently started getting into some more games. I've dropped from top 38 to top 42 percent in the rankings. I blame it on the fact that I've had 2 of my 4 recent games start out with somebody wanting to get me automatically.

This game will be thrown severely off kilter if the sleeping bear doesn't wake up.
It's 28 D to play. A sticky situation, but I've seen Russia come back from worse.
