Draw question
If someone has zero SC's, but doesn't have the shameline through their name and a draw goes through, do they still get a fraction of the pot?

Like, should everybody wait for them to be officially defeated before calling a draw?

a lack of integrity
To anyone who disapproves of lying in a game of diplomacy, I warn you not to trust the player known as mwalton. Whatever he may say to the contrary, he's a vulgar backstabber, luring people into alliances which he which then breaks without a word of warning within three or four phases.

My best/worst/most expansive stab... As Turkey working with Russia in a judge game, I took 3 or 4 SCs from one ally and at least one more from another. The second one was expecting it as he was alomst out of the game, but the first one wasn't. Yet we managed to make peace and get back to working together. How many SCs was it I took from you Crazyter? Irony is, I haven't played with Crazyter since CT's arrival on this site, yet we still chat in email and stuff.

"What was the worst backstab you've performed while playing this game. Where you almost had a real pang of honest-to-goodness, undeniable guilt as soon as the move finished?"

I just did it in a current game. I'm England and allied with Germany. We've fought Russia to a half-crippled state, and with Italy's help, France was almost completely dead. I was supposed to support hold Warsaw and Brest, which would have given Germany two more builds. Instead, I took Bel, Hol, and Den and let War and Bre fall. He went from, I think, potentially 8 SC's to 3.

The worst part? It's a private game among friends. Sooner or later, I'm going to have to look him in the eye and explain myself.

My guiltiest ever stab was when I stabbed ALAMO for my first win. The actual stab took years, which meant that ALAMO was able to craft every single press he sent to me for the greatest guilt factor possible.

Generally I always feel a tad bit guilty whenever I decieve someone, because I know how bad it feels <and I get decieved alot :D>. But I always try to banter my way out of it, and I *always* offer the person I am stabbing something, like a janissary position or something. (Never too late to manipulate, as I always say).

My worst stab has to be once where it was a game long ally that I had had a really good relationship with. I decided to give them a long explanation as to why I felt I had to do it, and how I felt they played a great game. I wanted them to see this message at the same time as they saw the stab.

I was in a huge rush though, so I sent this message *before* the moves went through. Three minutes before, to be exact. It didn't cross my mind that this may have been foolish as I rushed out of my room to catch a bus.

The next day, I log on, expecting a four centre gain and a heartbroken ally. Instead I find that they had logged on AFTER ME BUT BEFORE THE PHASE WENT THROUGH. And so, seeing my message, sending a courteous "wtf" they speedily changed their orders and stopped my betrayal in its tracks.

It was a rather disheartening experience for me on many levels.

:)

Let's face it, we all play to win, and one player cannot win without help from others. I have finished 17-17 draws but in the last move my ally should really watch his centers, because why not snap in, take that extra center and add another win to your record? (also, I'm mostly freakin' paranoid my ally will treat me the same). In such cases I don't feel guilty, and why should I?

Admittedly, there's a couple of people I'd like to either play again for one reason or another - or play against for the first time: Mr. Sword, djbent, jbalcorn, babak, Silver Wolf and many more (who I know won't CD), but there's not enough space to name them all. Once the tourney is done, I think I'll start a game "Warrior Bards" where everyone must communicate in some type of rhyme.

The chattier they are, the better. Especially if they can give/take w/ equal sense of humor.

I've enjoyed playing w/ my tourney brethren also, but we're starting to get into each others' heads:P
djbent (2572 D(S))

i totally agree LanGaidin. i'd enjoy playing with all those folks and a good number more. it's so much more fun when everyone chats, and can laugh off a nasty stab, or even recognize it's brilliance. admittedly, i can't always do that myself, but i think most times i can ;)

i think i felt most guilty about a stab in my first game with jbalcorn. he's such a likeable guy, and i totally wrecked havoc on him. i felt especially guilty after when he just laughed it off!!

of course, now we have a pact to ally in every game and never turn on each other ;D

Hey guys, give espera a break.
This is not entirely espera's fault. He is new to this site (I persume, to this game as well) Why would mwalton come to a 5-pointer game with a group of new players?
It is like Tiger Woods joining my beginner's golf game. Naturally I would feel humiliated.
We have all been in that stage. Lets espera learn gradually.
But one note for espera -- not every personal feeling would make an appropriate post to this forum.

Hey fair enough the espera is new. This game is pretty different to most other games. The thing is though, Diplomacy is Diplomacy. Understand what it is and you will have more fun.

It is quite funny thought, when you consider that the following appears on the front page of the site:

"To win you have to be strategic and diplomatic, making deals and alliances with other players, and stabbing them in the back when it suits you best."

@LanGaidan,Chris,dj, others

I'm flattered that you all think it would be enjoyable to play avec moi, though I suspect your reasons are perhaps mistaken.

Contrary to popular belief I am not in fact an actual sword (sigh) and my rhyming capabilities do not extend too far past simple limericks. I am also extremely mean and nasty to small animals including rabbits. Especially rabbits.

If however, someone would like to create a game called Warrior Bards in which all participants were required to speak in ryhme, rhythm, and use other poetic elements. (Perhaps it could be a Public Press game :)) I would be delighted to join.

It would be a pleasure to see if Langaidan could possibily ever run out of things to poeticate about.

Ghostie, we need a sub
Thomas B has gone AWOL. He was part of league D1. The first game just drew. He had 14 SCs but was in CD, so he did not share in the draw or the pot. In Game 4, we have begun with Italy in CD because Thomas didn't join. Can you force CD in the other 2 and get a sub?

iPhone / mobile browser issue
When I try and load up the phpdip site on my iPhone everything works perfectly, except the message logs - it only shows up about half of the logs, which means you can't see any new message as they appear at the bottom.

Is there anything that can be done about this? If nothing else an option to have new messages at the top of the log rather than the bottom would get around the issue.

Alert! Red Spy! In the base!
Any TF2 players here? What's your class and SN?

I play Spy unless there's already one or two, then I switch to Medic or Engie. I also do Pyro and Scout, and dabble in Demoman, Heavy, and Soldier.
SN should be either PandaKnight or Pandarsenic but I'm not sure which one you have to add to add me properly.

New game for those new to the site
I just started a game for those new to the site (though you don't have to be new to the game). Come join me and let's play a quickie to get some experience. It's nine hours per move (in case you want to sleep in one day) and it's only five points to play. It'll be fun and a great learning experience!
