im beginning to think so

actually i think that a lot of really high pot games end nastily, thats just anecdotal evidence from the number of them i see that have spilt over into the forum due to a game dispute.

I have avoided high pot games for some time - I find the points a distraction.

I find that when I play a game +100 points I have to deploy much more diplomacy to get results.

it just seems like im always the first one gone and no matter what i try to do to prevent that from happening it happens anyway. Maybe im just a noob who has played 70+ games that can only win when playing against complete noobs. At least thats how it looks. I was just wondering if anyone else was having as much difficulty as i am when it comes to putting up good showings in the higher pot games.

Gobble above... He has mentioned this to me a number of times. I haven't helped as I keep attacking him when we play, even in small pot games... : )

I try to apply a lot of diplomacy in all my games. small or high pots.
I think that the newer members of php will have a few deep decisions right in the begining of the game.
1. gang up on high point players
2. ally with players they think will be good enough to help them win.

I like playing with the latter of the two. I show them my wins (including my 24 SC win which gets them everytime), my stradegies, supply tactics, give advice, and talk like I'm really into the game (which I am). Most of the time, this brings good results. I end up allying with almost everyone, and depending ontheir responses and their moves, I hand pick the ones I wanna keep. Welll untill they become useless I mean. Then I tell thm to move all their armies and fleets on to one person, that person turns around to retaliate, they commit mutual suicide and I take the SCs my former ally left behind. ;]

My record is actually 100% in games +250 pot. =D

Games with high pots are likely to have fewer Civil Disorders and fewer players who default to gunboating without much reason to do so... thus, they're quite a lot harder to play in. The catch is that people with lots of Diplomacy points don't necessarily have great skill at playing the game.

honestly - WS - since we are in one of the games that inspired this post - I have to say that in higher pot games the expectations for better and more substantive communication is far greater. and I think I mentioned this to you in-game about my own personal leanings - but you might find that players who do play high-pot games are more similar to me in style than to you.

although you did explain that you rather talk to someone AFTER you become allies - I think that might not be the dominant mindset.

just my thoughts.

eh...oh well its just for fun but it would be nice for a change if a game i invested most of my points into would turn out decent for me so my points return with some intrest

if you like Endwar and you like Halo3 you should try HaloWars. i like it but then again the love of my life before xbox was my rts' like Age of Empires and Empire Earth for computer.
