Orders not being registered properly?
Does this happen often? I support an area only to have that support not registered, so it's taken. I've also entered orders once only to have the game "hold" all of my units. Does this happen to often? If so, does this irk anyone else?

Is it me or is the forum kind of slow. I mean there hasn't been a huge 6 posts in 10 seconds topic lately. Maybe I'm insane. And I believe the Ameican Ecomony is at its peak in History.

Wii?
So the wife and I are considering getting a Wii soon...

For those that own them, any cautionary tales? Favorite games?
bartdogg42 (1285 D)

No, it's a great purchase. We have one, and it's the one video gameish thing I can get my wife to play. We liked super mario galaxy (obviously) and even just the wii sports.
Well, you kind of have to wiggle your arms to get your armies to move, but thats pretty easy to get used to. To convoy, however, you will have to jump on your wife's back while she carries you across the room. It frequently turns sexual and then everyone goes into CD.

I like downloading the old games. There's a massive library of games from various systems to choose from, from NES to Nintendo64, plus the Sega's and a few other systems too.

As far as a good Wii game goes, I think Excite Truck is a good racing game that makes excellent use of the controls.

Party games are good for when friends come over (especially those who don't normally play computer games). Rayman - Raving Rabbids is good. It has lots of mini-games that only take a minute or two to play, but if you have lots of people over, everyone can have a go.

It's a good purchase...the wife and I have one. She doesn't play video games either but we play bowling together. And she likes the Wii Fit.
MarioKart is always a good choice too

Wii Fit is great for people who want to start getting into exercise, and as you get better it will give you a real workout. The only problem with it is if you're already a workout fanatic it takes a while to unlock things that will challenge you.

If you're the RPG type Fire Emblem:Radiant Dawn is excellent (though next to impossible to beat on hard). FPS are tough to find on the Wii, but there are some fun quirky games. I like the two Trauma Center games quite a bit (doing surgery on TV).

Unless you meet the following criteria;

a) No motivation for movement- ie. extreme age
b) inability and lack of desire to have intense fun

a wii is never a bad purchase.

Wii's are best in groups. It's not the sort of thing you'd play on your own (although I have been known to have the odd solitary round of golf.)

The Wii is a great sytem, it is great to play together with family, friends etc. The only problem is some games aren't responsive to controller movements but if you stick to things like wii sports or call of duty, that is not a problem

stratagos, it really depends on what you are looking for. If you are willing to go beyond just Wii Sports, Play, Fit, etc. the purchase will be much more justified. Otherwise you run the risk of ending up with a $250 plastic brick after a month.

Another thing to think of is if you're using it for more traditional gaming than just motion-sensing, all GameCube games are compatible. There are some pretty solid games out there for the ol Cube.

If you've never played a super smash brothers game, I'd highly suggest either Super Smash Bros. Melee (Gamecube) or Super Smash Bros. Brawl (the newer arguably better Wii game). Easily the most random, fun, and easy to play games ever made.

Unless your a 14 year old gamer then a wii is a good system for you to have. I however am not into that system so I have ps3 and a xbox 360 elite

Best games:

Fighting: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Racing: Mario Kart
Adventure: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess ; Super Mario Galaxy
RPG: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Also, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (you might want to play the other two first though)

If you have to buy just one game, buy Super Smash Brothers Brawl. 'tis the best in my opinion.

I'm most assuredly not a 14 year old gamer, but I'm curious why the claims that those in that age range wouldn't like a Wii - what're they looking for that it doesn't offer?
rratclif (0 DX)
27 Jan 09 UTC
While I can't say that group wouldn't enjoy it, it is missing the games that typically target that group. That age group drives the market for things like Gears of War, GTA, Halo, etc. where realism and violence is king (blame hormones I guess). After a point it seems gamers revert to being able to enjoy more "kiddie" games like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc. because they once again only seek the fun factor, not the violence/realism factor.

Also, for those who are older than 21, in the 35+ range, the Wii is nice because many games provide an enjoyable temporary alternative to reality (which is all a game should be) without risking being offensive.

I work with a bunch of 20-somethings and we have a Wii in the office for when we need to step away. We have bowling matches and tennis games and go-kart racing at lunch all the time. Most are fresh out of college. I'm the old man of the group. So it isn't just the 35+ group that enjoys the inoffensive, "enjoyable temporary alternative to reality."
rratclif (0 DX)
27 Jan 09 UTC
Oh, no, not what I meant at all, sorry. I meant that over 17 tends to like that, but even those games are still off-putting to an older generation. Many Wii games are still fun for those groups too.

I'm 21 and my favorite games are all the non-violent type (except Saint's Row 2, but I helped work on that one so whatever). Sorry that I didn't convey what I meant well.

Sweet, I own no video game systems. I only play PC games that actually work, but I keep track of the console stuff anyway, and I love this kind of pointless debate.

At my college there are about as many Wii owners as there are Xbox 360 owners. It really depends on whether you want US made rpgs and competitive shooters (XBox 360) which does seem to make up the mainstream of college level gamers, but not completely, Japanese made rpgs or Metal Gear Solid (PS3) which is still too expensive and not worth it considering the low variety of games, or fun party games and slightly larger variety, although sometimes lower quality games (Wii).

If you limit yourself to only violent and "mature" games then you're missing out on some of the best creativity and fun in the market. So little has changed in the FPS genre since the games of Halo and its generation. So many people made fun of Windwaker when it came out for being childlike because of cel shaded graphics, but since then I've seen some pretty amazing cel shaded games such as Okami on other systems. Graphics don't determine the quality of a game. Neither does the level of violence or realism. If I want to see something realistic or violent or good graphics, I can just watch a movie or look at screen shots online. That is not to say that some shooters aren't amazing, but I think that Valve has taken a monopoly on the originality of the FPS genre with Half-Life 2, Portal, Team Fortress, etc.

Anyway, back to the subject. The only real problem with the Wii, is the lack of quality third party games. Most of the real good games on Nintendo systems have usually been published by Nintendo and developed by Nintendo or a Nintendo owned subsidiary. Some of these franchise games, such as Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Donkey Kong, are still fun, but they also lack originality, especially in story lines. There are still more games with original and hilarious game play on the Wii then the other two systems combined. The incorporation of all that motion sensing shit helps a lot too. There you go, a short history of modern video gaming, with an emphasis on the originality of game play. Sorry for my rant.

Well, if you really, absolutley need M-rated games for your wii, you have to remember that it also plays gamecube games. Metal Gear and Killer 7, to name a few. It's not all about the newest games out there, y'know?
P.Ginsberg (125 D)
28 Jan 09 UTC
Personally, I say you should buy a 360 and a Wii. I have both and I say they're both good.

ADVICE FOR Wii (and other video game systems) OWNERS:
Read reviews of games before you buy them. there is a LOT of shovelware out there. especially for wii.

Unpause game please.
The game was paused due to a player getting banned. All players have unpaused the game except for one. However that player has not been on in a extended period of time and out of his five games three he lost, one in CD, and one paused. Its almost been a week since he had last been on and some of the other players would like to get the game moving.
