Joinable games bug?
In the previous version if I didn't have enough points to take over a CD country then the game would be listed on the available games tab but the "Take over a country" button was not there. Now the button is there for every game even though I do not have enough points to cover the cost. I've not tried clicking on the links to see if they work.

Retreat bug
In the game 'Global Press Only' (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4406) I should be able to retreat from Constantinople to Ankara but the only option on the interface is to disband my fleet.

Could you take a look at this please, Kestas?

I've contacted Dreamhost support about the internal server errors and slowness, hopefully this won't be a repeat of the recurring problems we had a year ago :-(

Anyone else think this is odd??
I think this person was posably multigaming to raise his win factor. The game link is...

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4202

All the charecters in this game (except one) were created on the same day and all but one went into civil disorder and further more not even the one that did not go into civil disordermoved a single time. Any thoughts?

Game - No Press 23!

Tyrolia and Trieste bounced in Vienna and then the dislodged Trieste retreated to Vienna.

Per page 7 of the online rulebook (http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf):

"A unit cannot retreat to a province that was left vacant by a standoff during the same turn."

Can somebody fix this?!?!

Thanks!!

It just happened in one of my games... the player involved chose not to take advantage. This is a serious bug.

Well, I don't know if our guy new or not, but hopefully it will get corrected before the next set of orders... Suppose I have to submit orders as if this was a legal move, but that kind of stinks... I certainly won't finalize early!! ;-)

Kestas just fixed the bug. I doubt he'll correct the individual situation however. This came up a lot, but shouldn't anymore. It's real rotten luck for you. =\

It wsn't me, but I would have retreated there. I had no idea about that rule (I learned Diplomacy playing here). If the game let's me do it, it's a legal move for me.

geeze.. glad I read this first, and glad the server hadn't run the orders I'd set.. Just happened in No Press 25 to me. So much for thinkin' I was lucky. >_>

Well that's pretty disappointing that rules get broken on this diplomacy site and people are allowed to do it... not sure why I expected more, but I guess if any of us don't like how things work around here we can quit playing on this site...

This is beta software which isn't yet at 1.0; there will be bugs like this one which I thank players for helping me find & fix. (This has been fixed fyi)

But I can't manually fix bad unit positions caused by bugs like this because changing a unit position involves changing more than 5 different tables, and creates problems regarding the order cache, which isn't stored in the database but in PHP session files. (Generated orders are cached based on the assumption units can't change positions between turns)

If you don't want to deal with the annoyances of helping to find bugs you can sign up to the mailing list here: http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=125692 and you'll get an e-mail when phpDip reaches 1.0.

Although I hate schadenfreude and am going to sound like an asshole I can't resist mentioning that playdiplomacy.com, with its premium accounts and PayPal buttons, suffer from more serious bugs like entire games constantly getting corrupted and disappearing. (How they managed to take phpDip 0.75 and actually go backwards I don't know)
http://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=685
http://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2

It's not really /that/ bad here, but thanks for helping to make it better by pointing out bugs when they crop up

Thanks for fixing this!! I'll assume it has been anyway, even though the unit is still on the map, I'll assume Austria isn't able to submit orders for that unit.

Also, sorry for coming off frustrated when it was suggested that this kind of error wouldn't get fixed. I know I certainly couldn't run this type of website and know there is a lot of time and energy that gets donated merely for the love of the game and the enjoyment of all of us. I'm actually very impressed with the whole thing and it wouldn't have been a big deal if the mistake hadn't gotten corrected, just a bit annoying, especially when initially realizing the situation. Anyway, before playing here I played a couple games over email and that was an amazingly painful/slow process that I will never go back to after being spoiled by all your team's efforts. Thanks again!
Chrispminis (916 D)
29 Jun 08 UTC
Uh. The Austrian unit is still there. He can't fix the mistake, he just explained that. But he fixed the bug so that the retreat error won't happen again. Austria is able to submit orders for that unit...
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
29 Jun 08 UTC
Guess I was wanting to read that he fixed the game!! ;-)

Anyway, like I said, a bit annoying, but not too big a deal... So, is it just new games that are recently starting that don't have this bug?
Chrispminis (916 D)
29 Jun 08 UTC
No, all new orders should be fixed.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

Oh, so the bug getting fixed just happened in the last 24 hours or so?!?!

Civil Disorder takeover Bug
So I just took over Russia in http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4282. The player who previously went into CD was el oso de chicago (I may not remember the name exactly right). France was also CD. Oso has now taken over that CD country - effectively switching countries within a game.

I'm not criticizing Oso, but is this something that should be allowed?

Changes
The largest change in this release is the developer documentation and extra comments, which I haven't fully uploaded yet, but there are also a couple of bugfixes:
- Italy/Germany civil disorder was mixed up ("Italy civil disorder" got Germany)
- Points on draws weren't split evenly, now they should be
- The DATC tests were broken, they're now fixed
- The intro and start view was using the old map colors, now they're up to date
- There's now a static front page, which I was told would help the search engines
- The incomplete order error finalization bug when joining a game should be fixed now
- Games with passwords should be joinable using the form

Keep your eyes open for any bugs I may have introduced. I'll give it a while to see if any new bugs crop up before releasing to sourceforge and freshmeat.
Hopefully the new documentation which I'll be releasing the rest of soon, and the new forum for developers to coordinate on, will help others maintain and possibly improve the site.

Regards,
Kestas

Convoy Bounce
I was looking at the game "fun fun fun oh boy" and it seems like there is some strange bouncing going on. Maybe I'm misreading it but I was wondering if someone could clarify for me.
England has: F NOR and A Yor
France has: F ENG
Germany has: A Ruhr

England convoys the army in yorkshire to belgium and germany moves army ruhr to belgium. They bounce, which seems normal. However, France attacked the fleet in the north sea. Wouldn't this break up the convoy? If so, then the army never would have reached his destination and Germany should have won belgium unopposed.

Kestas I found a problem
In this game http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4262 I was allowed to retreat to Spain when I had just bounced Port there.

My guess is that in Port it was a fleet going to the NC Spain. The adjucator recognized that as a bounce, but did not prevent the retreat to that location. I would have gone to Gasc if I had realized before I made the choice.
