Is This Bipartisan?
so conservatives don't like forcing taxes from people, and liberals like social programs. so, how do we fund social programs without taxes?

how do you think a team game wll be fair? how many teams ?
3 teams
1 Fr+En
2 Tr+Ru
3 It+Au+Ge
Mercy (2124 D)

I don't think Classic is very suited for team games. You need at least three teams if you want every team to contain more than 1 player, but then the game will end in a draw very quickly.
I think World Diplomacy IX is more suited for team games.
mitomon (511 D)

Oh hell yes. World diplomacy teams. Should it be random groups of four or by continents?
dobreni (0 DX)
18 Mar 17 UTC
so what should be the teams ?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

Random! Will make for a more interesting game dynamic.

Imagine being stuck between two players of the same team. The rest of your team is on the other side of the map. Your team has to help you somehow so they form a team alliance with another team to help protect you in exchange for support closer to the rest of your team. It would actually make diplomacy nessecary.

Actually our liberals v conservatives team game is pretty cool. I like that dynamic

It was placed randomly though @ogion.

@ogion , yes with 2 teams it will work , but with 4 will be a little trouble

I have always contemplated such a topic. I am really glad somebody finally mentioned it.

I was thinking the Great Powers of the classic game would be split up into two teams: the Allied Powers, and the Central Powers. The Allied Powers consists of England, Russia, Italy, and France. And the Central Powers consists of Germany, Turkey, and Austria-Hungary.

The game is played much like a WWI simulator, with teams working towards a common goal. The goal of the game is to reach an accumulative total of 24 supply centres before the other team.

I've played a similar match on another site, Mario. Italy was allowed to choose a side and went with the Central Powers.

From what I remember, Germany has problems instantly: E/F/R all can head straight at them. Italy was some help against France, but not a ton. All Germany can do is defend/wait for death. If Italy is AP instead of CP, Germany is probably going to be slaughtered even more rapidly.

Russia also has unmanageable problems in the south. A/T can go straight at 'em.

How dare you. I honestly can't believe you would bring up that thread with the title "Chili and Rice, that is all." once again. As Shakespeare once said, "Thou art a stringless hoodie"

dobreni:
The official rules are actually not silent on this for four, three and two players (which you could interpret as teams). See the "Alternate Way to Play" section before the sample game.

Four: England on it's own, Austria-Hungary/France team, Germany/Turkey team and Italy/Russia team

Three: England/Germany/Austria-Hungary team, Russia/Italy team and France/Turkey team

Two: A WWI simulation, England/France/Russia team and Austria-Hungary/Germany/Turkey team. Furthermore, "Italy is neutral and Italian territory cannot be entered. The game begins in 1914. Before the Fall 1914 adjustments, a coin is flipped. Italy joins the winner of the toss in Spring 1915. The first to control 24 Supply Centers wins."

In games with two, three or four players/teams, "supply center ownership is computed for each individual country". . . . "As with the regular rules, adjustments must be made by each country in accordance with its supply center holdings."

SuperMario0727: Did you come up with 24 on your own? ;-)

@Matticus13
I have experimented with various scenarios involving such teams—Germany is often eliminate very quickly, Turkey generally does very well, and the Allied Powers usually have the advantage. I noticed, however, that the game is more balanced when Italy joins the Central Powers. (I only chose Italy to be on the Allied team because that is what happened historically.)

You could have it so that Italy gets to choose sides. Italy cannot play or submit moves, and no one can attack him or enter his territory, or interact with his pieces, until 1915. (The game starts in 1914.) Italy can still negotiate with everyone, though.

By the way, which website did you play that variant on? I would be interested in trying it out myself.
SuperMario0727 (204 D)
20 Mar 17 UTC
@JECE
The variant that I described is in the rule-book for the game. The only difference is my version has seven players divided into two teams, whereas the rule-book has only two players.

@ Mario: It was just a normal game with preset conditions and alliances. You can make an unranked game here, and just draw the game when someone gets to the required SCs.

@Matticus13
So the game was played on webDiplomacy? Hmm . . . I'm guessing that it was a password-protected game. That could definitely work. But I don't think have enough friends to arrange that. I can see this working with actual players, but it would probably be a nuisance to police and set up. It is a very nice idea, though.
Matticus13 (2844 D)
20 Mar 17 UTC
It was played on an app. Don't really remember the name. Just make a thread with a sign up sheet, and list all the conditions. People will sign up knowing the rules, and wanting to play. Then, create a password protected, unranked game. Easy peasy
SuperMario0727 (204 D)

@Matticus13
I'll see what I can do. I might make a thread with a sign-up sheet in the future. You're welcome to join, by the way. Cheers!

Why are people not playing LIVE games nowadays?
I am back after a long time. 4 years to be precise. But when I left, there used to be a lot of LIVE games all the times. Now, whenever I peek the website out of curiosity, I never find a LIVE game. I tried making rooms, but no one ever joined!

What happened here? :p
Care to brief me a bit?

Of all the people that have influenced music in the last 60 years, from the Beatles to Muddy Waters to whoever you like, Chuck Berry will probably be the one they still talk about hundreds of years down the road. A real legend in music.

World Diplomacy Map Alterations
Hello WebDiplomacy. I have a group of people are making a physical World Diplomacy map for a big event, but we have agreed the board has some problems. Most of the people weighing on this issue say they want to take away South Africa's unit in Antarctica and instead put it in Madagascar as a fleet. However, I am worried that, unless South Africa and Argentina actively worked to stop this, it would give Antarctica too many possibilities for expansion in its home continent.

Hi everyone. I'm starting a petition to ban capt brad from full press games. I love capt brad as much as the next person, but I think he's harming the integrity (or something) of the non-password protected full press community.
